Outgoing? Tom Cannon

Not surprising that he says that. This is someone that still thinks Shackleton will come good. Why is he like this now? The old Wilder cut players loose in the early years or tried to when it wasn't working out. Lee Evans not quite what he wanted so moved him on. Same with Ryan Leonard.

This version of Wilder just seems to hang on to players needlessly hoping they hit some mega purple patch but instead they decrease in value to the point you can't even shift them out of the club.
His ego needs to justify the big bucks spend

Thats he's proven crap at

And TC isn't the first either. Chris is/ was much better with little money and lower league transfer work

I know this is just a rumour but what has happened the the cut throat ruthless wilder we had when he was on the up?

Remember early days where he signed players and if they wasnt up to it cut them lose as quickly as we signed them (or eventually signed them).

Such as off top of my head..
Hussey
Leonard
Evans
Carruthers
Holmes
Hanson
L.Freeman
Wilson
Duffy (to some extent)

And probably many more early on, where he signed them some did a job then moved on quickly as not good enough for next step or some he signed realised not good and got rid.

He's seem to have lost that side of him the bigger the value on players. Brewster & cannon wouldnt have survived the earlier version of wilder.
I always used to say pre-Covid Wilder didn't sit there and lose. If something needed changing, he would change it, or try to. It was an enormous strength of his.

This is something that seems to have gone out of him, little by little. He's a lot more slow to react now. It started, I think, with Lundstram and Brewster, who he persisted with in 2020-1 when the pre-Covid Wilder likely would not have.

Having said that, if you look at the players you list, it's a lot easier to bin off free transfers and league one players, especially if you don't regard the likes of Cannon as sunk costs.

Agree with what you say. But we could put a different name in there Shackleton... he wouldbt survive most mananager let alone pre covid wilder. What is the point in him here? And why havnt we cut ties.

He's too expensive to pay off and because he's constantly injured cannot be sold.

The big lesson from that saga is that scrappy bit part midfielders who don't score and create are twelve for ten cents. Never give them a 3 year deal. Never. As Riedeweld shows, there are usually free agents you can pick up on short term deals.

On the assumption Shackelton remains on the treatment table I suspect we will cut ties in January.

Are we saying Wilder has a bad case of Long Covid.

It’s the LMA award that did it. He went from being an underdog with a point to prove to being the ego that we see today.

50/50% wage split🤔with somebody at club,Warnock😎 was the master allegedly of ye auld 1 for you 1 for me

For some reason, whenever united sign anyone for decent fees, certain fans seem to look for the biggest stick they can find to beat them with as if it's their fault the money was spent on them. Happened to varying degrees with Mcburnie, Brewster and Berge. Hell even Hamer has had some critics during his time here.

With Cannon we do not play in any way shape or form to his strengths. We are slow through the thirds, with play always going through the wide areas. Cannon would be much more potent with quick central play with balls over the top of the last defender. Our third goal against Mansfield the other day is a good example of the kind of play he would most likely do better in.

But surely its more cost effective paying him up than keeping him? We have to pay his wages regardless but by mutual consent we would be technically saving money (albiet small amounts) unless allocated to a replacement squad player.

It would be for us.

It might not be for him.

That's another good rule to add to the 2 years left on contract thing

Surely we can only let Cannon go if we have another striker lined up is 100% going to come? We are very lihgt in the forwards department as it is. We would be left with Bamford, Campbell (awful form and fitness for a long time now) and One (young, raw and unproven at this level). e to keep him and Unless there is an upgrade of a replacement ready to come, I think we have to keep him and try and get more out of him.

Don't think anybody would notice mate if Cannon dissappreared altogether... bit like whens he on the pitch🤭

Loved McBurnie, had a lot of time for Brewster and thought Berge was superb. Cannon though is dire.

cant see any way wilder would think about letting cannon go without having somebody lined up personally would hope it will be piroe top championship striker just not premier league quality similar to armstrong and archer

I really hope One comes of age this season. Even if he does, I think we need another striker whether or not Cannon leaves

I think everyone should just get behind him ....there is a player in there but needs a goal...bet everyone will be singing his name if he scores Saturday??? He's been unlucky to be honest should have scored on Sunday but really good save ...if a player is wearing our shirt we should be backing him ...we have had worse players in our time as fans ....he needs the backing not is fault wilder played him on his own more than a pairing???

He's not been unlucky, he's been absolutely abysmal and more often than not when he's got the chance, he's shown absolutely nothing.

He's not even a footballer.

On his own he can't do it ...but in most games with bamford he's looked decent.... He hasn't scored loads ....but if Ur playing with a team that try to walk ball into the net he's not going too

I always think, every single game - hes gonna come good, today's the day, he'll be up and running.

Some games last season he really put himself about and won the ball back a good few times but it was a bit hit and miss.

Sunday at Mansfield it was not much running, hardly any pressing up top and hardly got a sniff really aside from a couple of blocked efforts against a relatively poor L1 team tbh.

It just goes on and on and when do you draw the line under it.

He has never looked anything above 'acceptable'.

Forget his goals record, he could simply:

Get involved.
Demand the ball.
Come deep
Challenge defenders
Press defenders
Make a nuisance of himself

He does none of the above, absolutely nothing.

He's not a footballer. He reminds me of the story of 'Carlos Kaiser', who when he did get on the pitch, just hid to hide his incompetence. The only thing he doesn't do is feign injury.
