Is that a thread you're starting MBoreman:D
Just hoping people are finally realising the obvious. Bar Maguire he was last year as well.

Linking to this thread he does add to a strong spine to the team which with our high standard of wingers and McNulty (ahead of Higdon at the moment for me) should see us do alright if the correct players are selected consistently.

Another quick point: the low ratings for Doyle from tonight's game are an absolute joke.

Re: Collins, Take it you didn't see their goal tonight ?

Otherwise UTB and three points...now, then what did that 'Yazz' used to sing?

Experience showed tonight, i thought solid at the back for most of the game, apart from the little hiccups, but that was expected coming from a team with low confidence after 2 previous defeats. Well done blades

How can you say that tonight when we lost the first two without them? Easier games FGS. Please explain.
Clough wanted to replace Doyle with basham and Collins with mcghey and/or butler but they haven't hit the ground running.
We get one win and because Doyle was in our side he's our saviour? The difference in moral could have been mcnulty starting for all we know.
I agree we need a Doyle type player, but not Doyle- for god sake not Doyle

If your
Why do 2 players who did well for us last year need replacing? Competition for places is great but if its not broken don't fix it.
Not broken? Are you not sick of this league yet??

I think S11blade meant since NC arrived...certainly the second half of the season at least, was not broken, it was promotion form.

Problem was, not only did the newbies come out of the traps slowly, some of the second half of last year's team didn't hit the ground running either.

We were bookie favourites, so many teams will be up gor a crack at us, we just weren't ready for it from the off.

As has been stated, losing 3 very strong players was always going to take a few games to get over.

Onwards and upwards now though.

McGahey initially at fault for needlessly giving away the corner. Collins ,apart from that mistake, played well tonight

Agree about Collins. He knows what he's doing...apart from falling asleep and letting their cb get a yard in front of him at the corner. Schoolboy-stuff.
I'm sure he'll hold his hands up on that one.

Re: McGahey, it's a brave call from Clough but ultimately one I think will pay off...maybe there I/someone will post a thread on him after ten or fifteen games..he is 'raw' as they say...

Worst game of Dungeons and Dragons ever. I can't see a cleric or a warrior.

All credit to Collins, he did well second half tonight but in the first half, he was an absolute liability. Aside from it being his man who headed home from six yards, he looked wobbly and shaky and I thought it was ironic that he was the one giving HM2 advice at one stage. Thought Magahey did well to cover for Collins on several occasions in the first half. We even saw two examples of Collins letting the ball bounce, something he did in his first season with us when we went down, instead of attacking it immediately. His confidence was shot as he went off at half time. I fully expected him to be substituted at HT or soon after if he carried on the way he was.

However, like I said above, credit to him. He was excellent second half. He came out determined and the defence improved despite PUFC trying to up the ante and it gave us a base to win the second half. I thought we were the better side second half after they shaded the first half. Collins was a big factor in that but he cannot afford many more performances like the first half. Woeful first half, excellent second half.

On a side note, really impressed with HM2 defensively. Yes, he gives the ball away and opts to punt it too much in terms of offensive work but his positioning and defending is good and that is a great place to start for a young lad. He held it together when Collins wobbled in the first half and kept us in it. Think that with some work, he will be a great addition long term. We'll have to accept a mistake or two from him for now, as we would with any youngster, but think he will be an excellent signing. Big shout for Alcock and McEveley too. Both full backs, particularly Alcock, restricted Posh in wide areas all game, very impressed with both.

Collins and Doyle were fairly important players last year who were instrumental in our 10-game win streak (a club record) and also our FA cup run to the semi-final. I'd be happy playing the exact same team as last year for most of this season bar the 3 players we've lost.

I think you'll find that Wallace is the one to replace Doyle and Basham was to replace Coady. Early days and things are still settling down, not to mention Wallace getting fit, but the team will evolve and settle. Too early to be nominating players of the season, the actual one might not have even started a game yet.

Indeed. I see Wallace played the last 30 mins in today's U21 game.

I for one am looking forward to him been an established blades player very soon,i think he's something wev'e been missing in midfield for a few years now,and he's ours, not on loan.
