BUTLER.

For whatever reason, it's not worked out so far. How I see it;

- Clough was careless in recruiting him, be it failing to identify Butler having the right character to fit in with the regime or his ability as a player. A Warnock/Cullip scenario.

- Clough has had a tantrum with him and he's bombing him out.

- Clough signed him, paraded him as a captain/leader etc. but realised that he actually prefers McGahey.

In any case Clough doesn't come out of this affair with much credibility.
I think if he played the right lineup,he could get away with not having Butler in the squad, but the problem is he won't and its this whats making the Butler situation standout.

If he was to play Collins and Mcgahey at CB and Alcock at RB,with McEveley on the bench,we would have SUFFICIENT cover for CB,atleast playing these players would then tell us how far away we are from Butler been required.

Wasn't that the play off game when the Premiership season had already finished?

Yep, fair do's. In that case...

Remember when Billy Sharp was pictured at the semi-final against Hull? I don't remember any Southampton fans getting hysterical.

Again. See above^^

I think for butler to be at Walsall suggests something isn't right

I think he has, but we shouldn't hold that against him - I think they tried to shaft us after we got the Maguire money. Taking care fo the club's money is a good trait, as long as he spends what's available in the right way :)

UTB

I think it seems that it was freeman and his leech of an Agent who tried to "lift our skirts" from the sound of things. And IF that's true, well done to NC for telling them to f**k off !!

Seems like another Walsall player that does not seem to fit in with the squad.

Despite already scoring a goal so far this season.

Maybe he has a Brandy attitude?

Don't agree with the "he can do what he wants if he's not in the squad". If he is in the slightest bit interested in fighting for his place, he would have travelled to Northampton and watched the game. Something definitely not right, given the surprise selections around the defence and we'll find out soon enough.

Or maybe Clough can't man manage people with ego's or bad attitudes. All Clough does is bomb players out instead of dealing with the matters at hand.He looks for the easy way out imo.

His father would clip them or find some other way to get them playing, and i'm only saying this as comparisons have been made by some between him and his father and quite frankly, there are few similarities.

I was disappointed when he forced Brandy out so quickly. I still think he would have been a better option than Davies or Campbell Ryce.

Although, with Clough's record last season, it was difficult to argue with any of his decisions.

Yes i agree with everything there Latters.Someone did a post last weak, can't remember who it was,but they mentioned all the players who left and put the new ones in position of them to compare whether they were better or worse, and tbh there wasn't any who i thought was better.

We have gone from a very optimistic bunch,to a very quiet bunch in such a short space of time and its not hard to see why.

Oh well, the only way is up now:)

Not entirely true, there were a few very talented players who didn't last long at all under Clough, Stan Bowles and Charlie George for example. I take the point you're making though.

It was me that put the list on. :)

As I said, Clough's record last season left him beyond reproach, really. However, nobody's perfect and I don't think it is wrong to point out one of his few flaws. It appears he likes to prove a point to the players, regardless of whether this is likely to be detrimental to results on the pitch.

I don't want anybody to think I'm in the Clough out camp. That couldn't be further from the truth. As I said, nobody's perfect, but he's certainly as close as we're going to get. I'm all for him and expect him to lead us forwards.

Cheers Latters.I thought it was some daft twat who put it on:D

Not really very few... there were others who were bought by Brain and were got rid not long after... Asa Hartford, Ian Wallace, Peter Ward, Justin Fashanu, Gary Megson, Danny Wilson, David Currie....

That said. Has Walker ever been at a Blades game at the same time a Spurs game is going on?

You just about hit the nail on the head. What's Clough doing letting him not watch a United first team game early in the season? By watching it he could get a better understanding of how the players play. That's if he's gonna get a game in the first team sometime soon.

Clough said in his interview there was no point paying for a hotel room for a player who isn't playing. I don't buy that, we are paying his wage so should have told him to go to the match. He's prepared to travel to Walsall so he should have been able to go to Northampton.

NC said in an interview that Butler has been "as unimpressive as anybody in preseason... shipped three goals at Burton, two at York..."
My unfounded speculation is that Clough has criticised Butler in person (at training or the dressing room) and he's taken it badly. Butler, in my opinion, needs to step up. Clough values honesty, modesty and hard-work and if Butler is showing frustration and being mardy about it then his time will be running out and I expect to see the back of him.

If he was critical of him pre season, then gave him the chance against Mansfield with that in mind, I don't expect to see him anywhere near the first team for quite some time.

Anyone read this while your busy speculating? Seems he can do what he wants because his boss says so.

I saw that one too - the thing is it isn't like playing golf or taking the wife shopping is it ? - "Oh I think I'll go and watch some footie seeing as how I am being paid for doing nowt. Where shall I go - Utd v Coventry ? Nah think I'll go back to my old club"- a real expression of commitment to the Blades isn't it?

Then the Manager has to say in an interview that he can go where he wants - presumably he has already been seen as having the wrong attitude I guess - and he is only not playing because of form. Anyone else think Butler might make another trip to Walsall sooner than later but of a more permanent nature (seeing as how they wanted to re-sign him at the end of his contract) and we seem willing to loan players who have pee'd NC off back to their former clubs?.

Clough has also said that if 50% of signings work out that's good, maybe this is in the wrong 50%. All very strange though and I really do wonder what is happening at the lane at the moment, too much change? maybe>

Bit different. Watching your boyhood club at Wembley compared to turning up at the club you just came from for a random home game two weeks into the season when your own team are playing.
