Some really silly comments on here. It is not the same situation as Tom Davies. Shackleton is under contract.
Due to his injuries nobody is going to sign him.

He is our player next season. We can either pay him up (not cost effective as we’d need another player in too so you’re paying two wages for one player), loan him out (and wpuld probably only get a small % of his wages covered), or big him up, get him fit and see if he can be our back up right back, something we don’t have.

Regardless of what happens we are paying his wages for another season, therefore we may as well get him as fit as possible to get some games out of him, especially as money will be tight next season.

Think Utds tried to get him fit but its proving impossible... ffs! Pay him up!

I suppose a better question for the forum is "What would you swap Jamie Shackleton for?" as If people are thinking we are "getting rid" of him, the only way would be by some sort of raffle.

I wonder if we loaned or transferred in other players from the Andy Gray ‘stable’, perhaps as a thank you for taking on Shacks. The sort of chicanery the secret footballer used to describe as commonplace…

He's only versatile in as much as he's equally mediocre (at best) at multiple positions.

Giving him a 3 year deal is one of the most bizarre and ridiculous contract decisions I've ever seen. There's no potential sale upside, he's never going to be a consistent starter, he's got a terrible injury record.

Disagree. Can coach them to control a ball. Can't coach burrows to not have the physicality of an asthmatics girl guide....

When I was in the scouts there were one or two girl guides who didn't mind a bit of physicality ....
And once we got started , it used to sound like an asthma attack ....
