So he's a walls all fan, wasn't in the squad today so rather than sat around watching soccer Saturday or whatever, he went to watch his team play. Is that right?

As has been posted elsewhere, if he knows so little of his current team mates it really would make sense to turn up and watch them perform, even for the politics of it all.

I also doubt there are many Walsall fans from Doncaster. :)

I'm not for for 3rd hand gossip, but I have the distinct feeling that all is not well between him and the club.

Yep, remember it well...Walker wasn't a Blade then though ( I also played football with Walker when 'injured' up at the UNi grounds whilst he was a Spurs player!?!) ...Butler is a Blade though?!? Maybe !?!??

If they have had a fallout then i don't blame him for trying to sort his career out,what sane person wouldn't.

It seems Clough likes to fallout with a few people after our transfer dealings and so on.
 
Plays all of pre-season yet doesn't even make the bench for the Bristol game, then gets a start in midweek in the cup but wasn't even watching us today!

Don't know what on earth is going on with him, something clearly not right between him and the club/Clough. Genuinely bizarre situation.
 
Seems a bit of a provocative move what with the rumours flying around at the moment. Obviously if he's been told he's not involved he can do what he wants but it doesn't look great to the already confused fans and I doubt Clough will appreciate the speculation.

He must be fuming though. Went from being club captain, probably saw the move as a step up, and now he's being told that not only is he being kept out of the starting 11 by an inexperienced youngster and a right back but he's not needed at all.

But maybe early doors Butler was told Maguire is off, you are the replacement and Captain..?

This doesn't quite pan out as expected..cue 'reasonble' discussion...cue Higdon captain, Butler bombed out ...

IMO, Butler was going to be our 'rock'. The next Morgs..the leader we're all looking for...summat's happened....so whats goin on?

I think he has, but we shouldn't hold that against him - I think they tried to shaft us after we got the Maguire money. Taking care fo the club's money is a good trait, as long as he spends what's available in the right way :)

The obvious result of this is either Butler will be gone shortly or the manager will.

For whatever reason, it's not worked out so far. How I see it;

- Clough was careless in recruiting him, be it failing to identify Butler having the right character to fit in with the regime or his ability as a player. A Warnock/Cullip scenario.

- Clough has had a tantrum with him and he's bombing him out.

- Clough signed him, paraded him as a captain/leader etc. but realised that he actually prefers McGahey.

In any case Clough doesn't come out of this affair with much credibility.
