Gazza was one of the best in the history of the game. Ravel Morrison just had Rio Ferdinand tell us how good he was in training. It couldn't be any more different.
You aren’t getting my point.
I’m not talking about on the pitch ability, rather mental state/personality issues.

I’ve always thought Phillips was lucky to get his break in the England team with just doing enough without being outstanding. His move to Man City was strange as it was obvious he was hardly going to play so he’s happy to pick up the wages and freewheel for a couple of seasons. Can’t blame him for that, so it will be interesting to see if he can command a shirt in our midfield.

On Rothwell, I have two good Rangers mates and in a poll, it was 100% unanimous that he is crap. Hope they are both wrong.

UTB !

Wilder got what he wanted so let's see if he can gel them into this group and give the dreaded "P" word a shot. If we do make the...."P's"...these deals can be seen as a masterstroke. If we don't, well we never had a chance, did we? Hope we do a Miracle at Medina !!. Get the finger wagging at the camera Chris

Good window in the end. Improved squad and nice to get Rothwell in on permanent so he can bed in for next season and give it a good go in what’s left of this one. 👏

UTB.

Neither it’s a comparatively low cost investment with city covering most of his wages on the outside chance of making a run at the playoffs. It’s a sensible signing in the position we’re in but it isn’t necessarily a signal of intent

Far too early, see how he performs on the pitch, this isn’t a normal signing, Man City are giving him to us to put in the window for a summer sale, it’s upto the player to perform, West Ham’s coaches said he was lazy and uninterested when he was on loan there and Pep called him fat, on top of that when he was at West Ham and Ipswich he was prone to mistakes leading to goals/penalties and sendings off along with injuries…. Having said all that, Wilder is something of a master when it comes to turning players careers round and upping performances, see Coutts, Sharp and Didz as just three examples. So who knows.
Personally I hope I’m wrong but I can see him becoming a Ravel Morrison, remembered for a good spell with Leeds and flopped after a big move, the kind of footballer that comes up in conversation in 10 years time, “what happened to Kalvin Phillips?”

It’s in the lads hands…hopefully he still loves football and wants to make a go of it in his later career.

they are but then again what do scottish fans know about football

I’m surprised by the way it’s gone. We know CW likes two players for every position and we also know that our biggest drop-off in quality is at centre forward and goalkeeper; Bamford and Cooper are way ahead Cannon/Campbell*/Ings and Davies/Faxon. I thought we would be bringing in a number 9 that could hold the ball up and bring other players in but apparently we’ve not even been looking.

Keeping Matos and bringing in Rothwell and Phillips just looks odd from a squad perspective. Does this mean that the injuries to Riedewald and Davies are more severe than reported? Otherwise why do we need seven players for two positions?

*From his cameo on Saturday I would guess Tyrese’s arse is now not far off the same size as Nathan Blake’s. Is this the result of a training regime designed to protect his hamstrings? He’s clearly not sprinting at full speed…hoping it’s that and that he can recover rather than it just being down to too many pies…

Is that not what Calvin Phips has been brought in for to play the no 9 role 🤔

It's bizarre more than anything

Can't predict what these owners are going to do, seem to be making it up as they go along without a great deal of strategy or thought
This is my concern too. I’m struggling to see what the plan is.

I’m not usually pessimistic but I do wonder if it’s a fire sale at the end of the season and then (another) more affordable rebuild.

Phillips for me is a punt and see if he comes good it will help us look like we have had a better season than we have, if he doesn’t then no real loss. Rothwell is a big signing as from what I have seen of him especially when we played Leeds at Elland Road he ran the show and looked quality, going into next season to have Bamford and Rothwell already on the team sheet regardless of league we are in, we are in for a good start. Hopefully we can go on a little run of form and see where it takes us

When’s your operation date, the one to get the fence post out of your arse?
If you can't see that it is perfectly possible to bring in players to say "LOOK AT US, WE'RE BRINGING IN ENGLAND INTERNATIONALS" and at the same time those signings to result in zero positive progression for the club, then that's your problem, not my arse's problem

It would have been good to see a couple of players be signed as part of the teams development for next season. But hey go that’s the way it goes

... Or waste of money?

Discuss.
Its neither, more a case of bringing in just enough reinforcements to get through the season.

The summer will be a big change, probably some sales and a complete refresh.... Phillips is here on loan, so unless something changes in the few months to the summer, he's here to do a job.

Rothwell on a permanent is perhaps more significant

I think its an awareness that even if we don't make the top 6, we need to finish the season strongly and with momentum. If we can get top 10, there'll be confidence that we can be a contender next season. If we drift around midtable being inconsistent, it doesn't bode well for next time.

My Rangers mate seemed to think his main issue was that he looked terribly unfit.

Who knows how this will play out, he has been training at City all season so he should be fit enough, but that isn't the same as being match sharp for the Championship. Being a bit part player for Man City has killed his career, as it has with Jack Grealish, the game is littered with players who have fallen off the radar after they got their big move. I think he could be a great signing after he has had a few competitive games to get up to speed, certainly good enough for this division.

It's probably the owners attempting to show they mean business.
Both Rothwell and Phillips do have past good pedigrees. BUT.
Looking at Roygviv s reviews ,of late, neither have what you would call glowing references from respective clubs fans.
It's going to be a case of wait and see how things transpire.
Phillips in all probability won't be that match fit. So let's not fall into the realms of knee jerk criticism in his initial games. You'd expect Rothwell to be fit but will still need time to settle into our rhythm ( whatever that is).
My initial feelings are positive. They have both shown great potential, particularly when with our rivals up the M1. Hopefully they will produce similar results for us.
I was initially reserved about the signing of Bamford, and just look at what he has done since his arrival. He's transformed us into a side to be reckoned with. Fingers crossed these two have the same effect. If they do have the desired effect, then maybe, just maybe, we might make the playoffs!
But it's all speculation at the moment.

Be good to see how McGlinchey & Eadie develop next season although we have plenty in the pipeline. Its good that One is out getting minutes, its a shame we didn't sign a backup keeper to allow Faxton out for minutes too. We also have Beattie to progress through, decisions to be made around Marsh and a few others.
