I'm maybe too emotional about these things but his moment of shit headedness cost us a historic moment in a season of
Epic abject nothingness
Do you mean the tackle where he wellied the ball upfield, caught the pig player who was lunging in to try to snap him in half, sending said pig to the floor rolling round like he'd been shot in the teeth by an A10 Warthog circling overhead. THAT moment of shit headedness???

No I mean The one where he got sent off for a moment of total selfishness

The facts show
1: A few year ago he was one of the best players in the Championship.
2: He was so good that Man City agreed to pay £42 million for him and offer him a 6 year contract on £150K a week.
3: He’s played 31 times for England and during Euro 22 was man of the match in a few games.
4: He’s still only 30…..so not exactly past it.

The downsides are he’s hardly ever played for Man City, only played in 16 premier league matches.
He’s been on loan at Premier league West Ham and Ipswich and been poor.

It’s a real fall from grace because now…..it’s possible he’s (at worse) average Championship standard.

It depends on the contract but signing anyone with such a background would be a sign of ambition However as mentioned he might now only be average championship standard……however he might also return to his previous form and become 1 of the best players in the Championship.

It’s a risk but most signings are risks. However I think if the signing fails….at his very worse Philips is still an average hardworking CC midfielder.
YHIHF and will be hearing it for the next 4 months….. gone to Wendy 🤣

Add the cost of those players up and it sort of fucks the money point up. Good players cost big money wherever they are from.
Fair point.

I remember a time when a £30m transfer budget was generous. Doesn’t get you that much in the prem these days

Inexcusable fucking shambles of a signing

And we've all had to pay another £30 on STs to cover his wages
Why ? That tackle wasn’t a red card in my opinion and his injury prevented him from playing. We cannot make a decision on one game.
There is no sensible reason why he should not be a useful player for us.

None of it was just bad luck

We signed a player who's barely played for years, and probably has zero motivation

Exactly what happened is exactly what was predictable

It's his fault he got sent off and it's no surprise he got injured

He was a Wilder indulgence and Wilder has to answer for it in some way

That is an unusual view based on one match.
We know this was a talented footballer, so taking a calculated risk seems to me to be good business.
Deciding with hindsight that it didn’t work is not the way to judge the thinking behind the original decision .
He may well turn out to be a great addition if he is with us next season.

We signed him when a play off place was a long shot, and with Riedewald coming back in 3 weeks

If it was as expensive as you'd expect, it's very difficult to justify/excuse

This is exacerbated by our unacceptable record with other players with similar problems. We've already had more than one too many expensive crocks. We even signed Rothwell the same day, for the same position, with similar issues. But at least he's our player

Phillips could be a gamble that pays off, yes. But it simply doesn't feel like the right thing to do. If he comes back it needs to be on very favourable terms, similar with Souttar

He's a millionaire he isn't going to be any good, his last loans have been miserable failures he doesn't need to put any effort into football he's made for life just training at Citeh. Kyle Walker can feck off too, let Burnley pay his divorce.
