I do enjoy the character and charm of details at football grounds. An interesting thread popped up on my twitter about the clocks at the lane (my twitter feed is admittedly not that interesting). There are three clocks at the ground, the old pavilion clock (reinstate!), the one on the gable, and the white one on the Bramall Lane End. Anyone have any idea when the latter came about? Someone on the thread mentioned mid-80s, by which time the pavilion was long out of view. Anyone remember, and was there a reason behind its installation?

What I find fascinating about top pic is the supports on bottom tier are now the back of the stand.

The clock is basically the back of lower tier now.

These days everyone’s twitter feeds are filled with a mix of shitty politics and vacuous influencers.

I’d kill for a Twitter feed that was full of football stadium clocks!

Which one is the pavilion clock?
The green one on the south stand facade. Apparently it went missing after the pavilion demolition, and was later about to be scrapped until it was saved by a fella who recognised it. Looks like it lost a few pinnacles along the way. Its a shame the pavilion went...

Well if the L had been missed out of the title of the last word, this thread would by tomorrow have had more posts than pigs thread.

Just saying like...
😙🥃

Are those the genuine white railings in front of the pavilion ?
I distinctly remember as a young lad in the early 70’s from my vantage point stood grasping the kop railings behind the goal. A Watford supporting pitch invader run across the cricket square only to be headed off by one of SYP’s finest. A foot chase ensued towards the Pavilion and upon approaching the perimeter fencing the young lad dived full length and was almost clear, until the copper grabbed his foot.
The lads escape abruptly stopped in mid air before gravity brought his nether regions into direct contact with the rounded tops of the vertical railings. Much to everyone else’s amusement of course 😉

Has the Clock ever been hit by a wayward shot during a game?
I 've been going since the late 60's and can't ever recall this happening.

Maybe if it ever happens whoever hits it should win the game outright. Or at least get an extra point.

Ps in the interest of doubt, the last sentence is a joke!

Michael Tonge’s penalty in the shoot out vs West Ham probably the closest.. almost landed in the BLUT

What happened here? I’m too young to Denver the pillars been that close to the front.

Was the seating brought forwards? When was the work undertaken?

When they built the South Stand the pavillion wasn't immediately demolished. For a few years afterwards it existed as a bar and clubhouse where the car park entrance is today.
Yes, I remember that well. A friend of mine used to live on Cherry St and I used to go past the pavilion on the way to his house.
