After the next 3 games, Saints/Ipswich/Wall, we could be very much in the relegation scrap again
IMG_7146.webp

Potentially tough games, but there’s enough dross in this league that we won’t get mid table ish

Had we not had 2 baloon knots and a Bent ref yesterday we’d have won that and been looking up, knee jerk or wot?

For a few reasons.
  1. First we need to get the positive momentum back established.
  2. Also we need to keep the 2PPG recent form up.
  3. We need maximum confidence and belief going into the Ipswich game

No chance of relegation imo

Also , no chance of top 6

Use what remains to get the players Wilder needs fit (Peck - Arblaster) - get the dross off the books where possible (almost every pre Wilder signing) - prepare to offload Davies x 2 , Campbell , Hamer, Shackleton - plan well in advance our budget for next season and target what Wilder wants - quality over quantity

The realities of being a midtable Championship side.
We've not really been one for about 20 years, an unusual feeling going to games with very little jeopardy.

We absolutely won't go down.
Wednesday have one spot nailed on and there's way worse teams out there than us (we saw one yesterday). I still have us 10th-14th.

Mid table and will be for a couple of seasons I reckon . Not sure what we can look forward to tbh because we won’t be able to spend to push on 😂

He may have been unwell before the match but felt well enough to play. I don't know but I thought Wilder said he was taken off due to illness. I heard nothing about concussion, but will happily be corrected.
I’m fairly sure Bindon was one of the several United players to get clattered by Leaburn in an aerial challenge. He (Leaburn) is definitely one of those who dishes it out but can’t take it back.

That may or may not have been what Peck was suggesting to him after fouling him near the end 😀

It's not a must win at all really is it? We ain't making playoffs and ain't going down. It's a nothing game as are most now. I think at best we will get one win from next three but then with Oxford and Wednesday at home will get some points on the board. We will win enough to not be in trouble but nowhere near enough to threaten the top 6. Yesterday's defeat pretty much ended any slim chance we had IMHO.

To make playoffs, I think it’s a must win, per my points, plus encouraging the board to continue with whatever their most optimistic of transfer plans is for January

Your comment that ‘we ain’t making playoffs’ is just your usual negatively-tinged view on things. It’s still more than possible at this stage. I made a data-driven post recently that showed if everyone in the league completed the rest of the season continuing their last 10 form, we finished in 6th. So, I’m not buying into your gloomy outlook.

It's great to be optimistic, but you're asking us to get 38/40 points from 20 games and even then that might not be enough.

We also have to leapfrog 11 other teams.

It isn't happening. Which will be obvious after the next 3 games, which will be extremely difficult without our best CB, only DM and limited CM options (none are properly fit).

I think the club privately will have accepted that and will be (probably wisely) scaling back any ambitious January plans they may have had for this window.

Its a realistic view based on the season not just a small sample size. It's not 'more' than possible really. It is very unlikely. We need to have automatic promotion form the rest of the season. I hope it happens but there is way too much ground and clubs to make up and for all the improvements and better performances, we keep having a crap game every 3 or 4 and injuries/susceptibility to concede early in 2nd halves continue to hold us back. There's too much to do.

2PPG is needed. I believe we can do it. Enough other teams have been showing that they can’t sustain that.

We’ll see. As I said, I put in the effort to sit down and work out everyone’s 10-game form and project that over the rest of the season, precisely because of the traffic between us and 6th, to see where it landed. I’m going to give more weight to that than people’s personal opinion. I think that’s fair, and certainly inline with my style.

Have a nice evening. Or a shit one. Whichever makes you happiest.

Fair play for doing the research.

I'd offer that it's likely that at least one or two other teams will go on a run similar to our recent one and unlikely a side, with our defensive limitations, will be able to sustain it...
but until it's mathematically impossible I hope Wilder & the lads continue to go for it, so no issues from me Cappy . Enjoy your posts.
