When did I say I’m not optimistic? I think like everyone else I’m starting to look more at the top half of the table than what’s below.
We just haven’t done anything yet, a few bad results and we’ll be looking over our shoulder again. The humble pie needs to be saved for the end of the season.
I don’t really judge us on results….i look at the performances.
Was impressed how we dominated Wednesday…must be one of the most one sided derbies ever and could have been 0-6
I kept thinking is it us that’s good or them that’s shockingly poor?
My conclusion were SW were terrible as they didn’t seem to even show any effort.
Next game was impressed how we beat Portsmouth so easily…again I’m thinking is it us who is good or them that are poor.
My conclusion was they were poor….once they went down to 10 men they showed no effort to score….a boringly easy win.
Next game away at Leicester….3-0 up at half time….again I’m thinking is it us that’s too good or Leicester that are terrible?
My conclusion was that Leicester were a total disgrace showing zero effort in that 1st half and it was far too easy.
Yesterday again I’m thinking is it us that’s too good for this league or a one-off where Stoke put in their worse performances of the season?
My conclusion was Stoke were terrible, really poor…..they looked demoralised and didn’t show much effort to score.
See the pattern….its now 4 consecutive matches where the opposition have been outclassed and played their worse performance of the season .
Surely it can’t be coincidence. Reminds me of that 1st season up under Wilder, when we outplayed Spurs in their own back yard and all their fans could say was “it was one of their worse performances seen in years”, then we went to Arsenal and had good spells of outplaying them and their fans said “one of their worse displays in years”.
It’s still early days but just maybe Wilder has found the formula to having a functioning team.
For the 1st time this season our midfield is starting to function….Peck is full of confidence.
Instead of messing around with playing Tanganga as a right back Wilder has realised he’s best as a centre back in a back 4.
So the defense is starting to look really solid….another game where Cooper hardly touched the ball.
The Sereki/ Brooks combo down the right is giving us a new attacking dimension. Early in the season attack was too distant from midfield, now we have Bamford dropping deep showing for the ball, holding it up and laying it off linking midfield with attack ( a bit like how McGoldrick used to play).
Early days but it’s looking so promising.
This division is full of average teams all of a similiar standard….there are no teams near the level of a Burnley, Leeds or even a Sunderland.
However think the bottom end is stronger than usual….so every team is capable of beating each other.
It’s a tough ask but we were saying that almost every team in this league is at a similar level to Stoke City….and we looked a division above them yesterday.
So It is possible that we could go on a 8 wins out of 8 run….and if that happens we’re back in the promotion race.
