Cannon worst player on the pitch - every game!

Adam Davies was the worst player on the pitch. Then Ogbene. Absolutely nothing happened with him other than trying to run through players rather than round them.

Cannon looked an average striker. Which is probably the best he’s looked for us so far.
If we created more than 3 shots like last night compared to Coventry's 12 we might see more from Cannon. I have seen a glimpse here and there of a decent run but there is nothing he can do if he doesn't get the chance or ball. Creatively we are poor, our goal was bizarrely from a set piece and a corner at that which is a rarity by most teams standards. O'Hare is our top scorer on 4, if Cannon was an average striker for goal ratio you would expect 5 or 6 by now, he is no way worth the £10mill splurge but I don't think we know his strengths and certainly don't play a formation that suits. Stansfield at Brum has scored 6 and he cost them £15mill. To avoid forum meltdown I am not going to say who is in 4th and 5th.

Cannon has been let down and scapegoated by Wilder (and Selles). The lad plays as one of two strikers. The first time he has been given that chance, he played a lot better. It is all good and well Wilder calling him out because he can't hold the ball up as a loan striker, but that is not, nor has never been, one of his strengths. Good to for Wilder to have a scapegoat though - means we might not notice who is picking the team and deciding the tactics.

He had a decent 1st half tonight.

I turned off when Cov equalised, so can't say for the rest of the game.

Yeh he was acceptable/ OK first half.
It was refreshing and quite weird to see him make runs into space and look as though he was bothered,

Second half he returned to type….hardly touched the ball and didn’t seem bothered. Altho many other players were the same for about 30 minutes.

Cannon had 7 touches in his entire 69 minutes.

Seven.

He did not have a good half.

It’s in context. He normally has 2 or 3 touches of the ball per match but seems to hide…doesn’t run into space.

First half against Coventry he seemed like an average Championship striker, made a few runs into space, seemsed bothered and actually did some work.

It’s the best half I’ve seen him ever play for us…..which kind of demonstrates how shockingly poor he’s been. Altho in his defence he could say he’s hardly touched the ball whilst playing for Sheffield United.

The sad thing is neither of them would have that number back here, we don't create chances. Please, no-one quote XG which is a modern day football's equivalent of The Emperor's Clothes.

What is more, they would be getting criticised on here.

Cannon has been a terrible signing. But the surrounding players are making him look even worse.

I was going to use the word ''team'' in this post. But, we're not a team in the true sense of the word, are we? And us fans are split and toxic, as far from united as I've ever known.

Play him as part of a front two and get the midfield and wide men playing the ball to him and his partner as early as possible and into space for the front lads to get on the end of. If he still isnt making the runs or not getting on the end lf things then thats on him. But at least try and play to his strengths first. You just know if we sold him cheap, he would go to a club who play him correctly and he would start scoring.

Keiffer Moore has gone to Wrexham who play with an instruction to get to him in the air from out wide. And guess what... hes suddenly morphed into an effective goalscoring forward. Now who wpuls have thought that to get him scoring you have to play to his strengths... clearly not Wilder or United who seem to recruit forwards on a scattergun policy and hope something sticks rather than actually assessing whether that player will fit into how we are looking to play. And some wonder why we are a graveyard for forwards...

We would have Keith Edwards as a target man and Billy Whitehurst running the channels.

I didn’t know or count his touches, I just watched and saw he did alright.
The problem is that we need much more than just ‘alright’ to get out of the mess that we’re in.

The entire team as a collective needs to be playing better but for that to happen then individual performances across the pitch need to improve.

Yes and I agree with that. But the point was that the post I responded to just dismissed him as shit v Cov which wasn’t the case.

I wasn’t judging that performance on past or future, just on face value in that game

Just goes to show the level we are at when we except and/or make excuses for overpaid premadonas, some of whom are a disgrace to the shirt. Pretty much the same as a starving dog hunting for scraps in the gutter.

He wanders roud the pitch wtih that gormless, blank expresson. Mediocre on Tuesday which for him is a vast improvement,

The OP’s title may be correct regarding most of his previous games, but Cannon wasn't our worst player on the pitch against Coventry. He wasn't even our worst striker, and compared to the likes if McGuinness, Davies and Ogbene…well let’s just say the timing of the post is somewhat confusing.

100% he should be 'busting a gut'.

Captain Blade is 'alright', the half time refreshments are 'alright' Gary Sinclair's choice in music is 'alright'

Did he have a good half?? He's never near the ball, he's weak and his runs consist of him hiding behind the defenders. Just watch him in the box, he's hiding. He contributes absolutely nothing and has no presence whatsoever. Looks like he has no confidence and / or has never looked like he wants to be here.
I totally agree with you mate. I don't normally 'go in' on our players but to me that was just another cowardly performance by Cannon. He's very good at running and hiding behind defenders where there's no chance he can get the ball. He half-heartedly goes for the ball, if you watch he moves towards the ball and backs out at the last second. Add to that his woeful touch and control and he's one of the neshest non-footballers I've ever seen.

When he's on the pitch, we might as well be playing with ten men.
I even understand the folk who have said positive things about him, because we spent £10m on him and you want to believe there's a really good footballer in there. I'd be absolutely delighted if he turns it round, puts himself about and starts scoring, but I see no sign of that happening.

So basically dropping him for the game before had the effect of motivating him to be a bit better than he has been, in the first half. Wish he'd fuck off.
