We need to talk about Sydie Peck

I thought he played well

Agree…..think we have to realise what we have regards Sydie.

Most of the time he just makes himself available….often a really good first touch….then he makes an easy sideways pass.
Some might say he doesn’t do a right lot….he hardly creates chances and never scores, also he’s a bit slow so often mistimes his tackles against quick players.

However Sydie is more of an “enabler”….he always shows for the ball, good at keeping possession allowing other players to produce the killer/ high risk pass.
These type of players are often not rated by fans as they are underwhelming but managers and even players/ colleagues really value this type of player in the team.

Really think Sydies effectiveness is often down to who is is partnered with and how well our others players are playing.

One of the rules of S2 fandom is youngsters who come through our academy actually get the worst stick and the least appreciation.

The lads only just turned 21, if he comes out the other side of the chaos of the start of this season he ought to get immense credit.

Edit - our youngest starter again today BTW
The fact that those that stayed behind to applaud the players on the post-game lap sang his name and no one else's, should tell you it's just a weird bunch of morons in this forum who don't rate him. Fans who actually go to games really really like him!

I'm guessing this gaggle of miseries don't go to games, don't have enough attention in their everyday lives, and are desperate for attention.

He's shit.

I'd love to be convinced wrong.

If he was a youth player in a League Two team he wouldn't get game time.

He offers absolutely nothing to a Championship team.
Wow. He is far from shit, what a strange comment. Today, was his best game this season because he had support.

His energy and commitment shone through, and spread to others.

I do not understand the animosity to him. I think he was our youngest player, today?

We stayed to clap the players off, and Peck got the best response of all. He offers aplenty for us, a Championship team. IMO.

Its funny how different people see games in different ways.
He's far from shit, as some people keep insisting!
I commented to family in the UK that he seemed more reserved today and didnt try to get forward as much. As usual, he never shied away from looking for the ball but kept it simple. Pretty much every pass found a teammate, albeit the passes were safe (short, sideways, backwards) but this allowed others to get into the game and Peck was usually the starting point for our attacks.
I thought he worked well alongside Soumare and both offered some protection to the defence resulting in the majority of their efforts (save for a nervy final 5-10 minutes) being from distance and offering little to no threat to Cooper's goal.
A solid performance from him today.

Yeah, he's young.

That's the only thing he's got going for him.

If he doesn't improve quickly he'll be playing for Tranmere in a couple of seasons.

Tidy win today but it was little to do with Peck.

That’s a bit excessive. Peck, along with many other players, have been massively underperforming all season.

One decent performance doesn’t completely absolve the terrible start we’ve had, but it’s a step in the right direction.

There's no doubt that he has shown some ability and he has potential.

However he never scores, very rarely creates chances and assists and gets overran in midfield as his positioning is poor due to lack of experience. He's certainly not a tough-tackling holding midfielder either.

I don't see any particular issues with his attitude on the pitch but Wilder did say last year that 'He thinks he should be playing for Real Madrid and England'. Ok that's tongue in cheek but perhaps he thinks he's already made it?

He needs a strong Souza-type player next to him and better players around him, and its not his fault that several of them have been sold/gone back.

However being ruthless in the cold light of day in my opinion he's presently not adding/contributing enough to merit selection for the first team though would be interested in what others think.

No, we don’t.
