Hamers Replacement......should he be sold.

The playoff final showed us a snapshot of life after Hamer, when he went off injured. Effectiveness or not, in form or not, he's the only one who effectively shows for the ball constantly and tries to make something happen. The rest are, for want of a better phrase, a supporting cast. I.e. good players, but they supplement a playmaker, they aren't the playmaker in their own right. This could be about to get very grim, if we don't sign at least one player with the balls to dictate play.

Also, you can't have a team like that. The last few seasons its been if MGW gets injured we are fucked. If Ndiaye gets injured we are fucked. If Hamer isn't playing we are fucked.

It's shit way to setup as it relies on one player to dictate everything and you have to rely on them being fit for the whole season.

It's the thing I will give Wilder 1.0 props for is creating a team greater than just one player.

Already obvious Hamer and COH don't work as part of 3, give no support to a DM (though need proper one). Need B2B workhorse to link attacking orientated CM with DM. One of Hamer and COH not both. If goes Peck (for now) to CM with Matos/Soumare as DM (unless Soumare could be the B2B?). Blaster to come in once back or Davies if ever fit. Suddenly midfield gets balance it desperately needs. Will also help provide cover for defence to give Burrows more licence to be player of last year rather than pub player looks just now.

So the cat is out of the bag......Hamer wants to leave because of Selles.>

As per information from our chief football correspondent, Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysis understands that Hamer had told his people in the last week to ‘find him a way out’ of Sheffield United.

He said: “He is not convinced by Ruben Selles, and this led to fresh talks with PSV, who were told of the player’s desire to move.”
Who could blame him Selles is way out of his depth from contenders last season to also rans hoping to finish ahead of wendy

Genuine question on Hamer, what formation and position would get the best out of him.

He has done amazing things with us, but I don't remember matches where he was unplayable or completely ran the show. He produces moments of magic but for 60 or 70 minutes, where should be be playing?

Play him as close to Campbell as possible

There's a good analysis of how Coventry used him here, which I think was Gus at his best:

tldr: playmaking double-pivot in a 3-4-1-2 / 3-4-2-1

Well he won POTS playing LW in a 4231, but I always think of him being perfect for the old "Duffy role"

Interesting read, thanks for sharing.

It makes hard reading when trying to work out what our current tactics are!

Would look something like this I guess:

Would that work well within a 4-2-2-2?

something like below? seems strange that we haven't seen Selles try other formations that he has with other clubs and I saw 4-2-2-2 being spoken about as one of those options.

was just reading something about Ralf Ranrick using that formation with double pivots but wasn't sure if it was the same idea or different
