CONFIRMED Alex Matos signs from Chelsea - Three Year Contract

I’d hoped we’d use the last loan on a creative player ( an McAtee/MGW type where we couldn’t possibly get on a perm.)

But we should be solid with all the additions we’ve made recently. We do still need to give the more creative players a platform to create though. We lack difference makers in attack as has been clear with our goal scoring record so far.

Wonder if we can send bindon back and do both.

I don't think he's guessing, the fact he's been signed up by Sky Sports must mean he has credibility.

I think much of his information comes from Italian agents, which I was surprised to hear represent a lot of UK based players (including Tanganga).

Pete O'Rourke is still my favourite though.

It could indicate that Selles is at least open to the idea of a formation tweak if things don’t improve and might be considering going with a deep lying two at the base of midfield

Soumare based on the snippets I've seen... and taking into account he's only just joined and hasn't had a pre-season with the lads... Should be starting every game he's fit in.

I’d guess that Matos will be Soumaré’s backup in the 6 role. Arblaster and Peck (and Davies in the three games he’s fit for) will be the 8s and O’Hare and Hamer the 10s.

Whatever happens that gives us way better balance. We shouldn’t see O’Hare and Hamer in the same midfield three again unless we’re desperately chasing a game.

Insane to waste a valuable loan - which you should be using on players you have no chance of buying - on a back up.

Same way we pissed 3 up the wall on right backs last year.

Stuns me given the success of McAtee, MGW etc we aren’t looking for another one in the mould.

We play three in the midfield and at least two of those 4 centre mids can’t keep fit for more than 4 months out of the year.

Need a strong squad, not just a first 11.

If this was to happen, id expect a relatively modest transfer fee for a permanent deal, with a low buy back option for Chelsea and a high percentage sell on clause inserted. I think that wpuld work for both clubs and its looks better on Chelsea's balance sheet re the FFP stuff.

The sticking point to the above scenario and why it might go down the loan option after all, would be the lads wages. Chelsea will have him on a very inflated contract even as a youngster (remember Jamal Blackman and his contract level) and he might have to compromise on his wages if he wants to have a permanent move, otherwise its probably a loan and Utd paying a percentage of his wage only.

As for the lad himself, I know sod all about him so can't say whether it would be a good signing or not imo, but we are definitely light still in the defensive midfielder area. As evidenced by 3 league games so far. So, for that reason, im in.
