Only went there on loan in January. Looking at Oxford's last 8 games last season, they played 4-2-3-1 in 7 of them - for 6 of those, they started Brannagan and Vaulks as their 2 CDMs. In the other 2 games, Matos started (once as a DM in a 4-2-3-1, once as a CM in a 3-4-3).

Hmmm, Not a ringing endorsement if he can’t oust Brannigan or Vaulks (solid players as they are).

Sure there’s a rationale behind it though - and people mention the Oxford fans seem to like him,

Been on a real journey with this kid today:
9AM: who the fuck is this?
10AM: Oh god, not another short-arse.
11AM: Saw how much the Oxford fans loved him
12PM: Saw his ridiculous, Kante-esque defensive stats
Currently: getting an Alex Matos tattoo and planning to rename my daughter Alex in his honour
5pm signed for Wrexham, hope they do cover ups (for the tattoo, not the daughter)

This guy may have Kante-esque defensive stats, but the jury is out as to whether he can even complete a simple short pass once he wins it. Looks like he pads his stats by tackling, giving it away, tackling, giving it away, tackling, giving it away...........

Maybe there is a time and a place for him, but to me, doesn't look like he is ready for week in week out high end Championship football (should be good for our relegation battle though)

Oxford the view from will be pretty positive if this one happens

I've never seen it filtered down like that before.

It makes it very clear what we're getting ... a young Hamza Choudhury. I just hope he's got a little bit more about him in possession.

Watched a highlights reel of this lad, I know it's a going to show the best bits but he looked good on the ball, snappy type. Think someone described him as like a better version of Monty. I can see the comparison there. He didn't get knocked off the ball easily neither.

I do wonder if he comes in whether Peck is off because we've got a lot of centre mids and Peck might be the most likely to go i'd have thought.

Have you actually seen Matos play ?
You seem to know a lot about his ability and if hes good enough surely you must have seen him

I’d guess that Matos will be Soumaré’s backup in the 6 role. Arblaster and Peck (and Davies in the three games he’s fit for) will be the 8s and O’Hare and Hamer the 10s.

Whatever happens that gives us way better balance. We shouldn’t see O’Hare and Hamer in the same midfield three again unless we’re desperately chasing a game.
Selles has something for you with Hamer and O'Hare.

Definitely going to add defensive muscle to our midfield.

No better midfielder for defensive stats per 90 in the Championship last season (admittedly wasn't playing all the time) but when he did, Oxford fans seemed to love him.
Kids on a upward curve
