Plucky little underdogs with a chip on their shoulder. British bulldog spirit? A lot of our lot are the Yorkshire Terriers of the football world. Game little fuckers but ultimately doomed to fail.
I find it genuinely depressing that we seem to have a notable number who actually believe a foreign manager will never work here.

That's before you get to the illogical part of that thinking.

The same parochial, negative mentality that has held Sheffield back as a city.

And also a massive minus when players who were clearly done and on their way down were given new contracts.
The ones that really got me were the ones like Rodwell and Ravel Morrison and also the ones, especially in the early days, that we chased for months and then hardly played. There were some very strange signings.

Every manager makes bad signings with hindsight, but some you could predict. Burke springs to mind in that as well.

i couldnt see wilder turning it when he did. & i feel we are in similar situation, 10 years later

but then you look at 7 games v promoted team
Leeds 0-3 1-3
Burnley 1-2 1-2
Sunderland 2-1 0-2 1-2

P7 W1 L6, 6 scored 15 Conceded

& there were games like Plymouth H. that we were outplayed & somehow won. so maybe fortunate to get that total
But did we get hammered by Bristol, and beaten by, Birmingham, Swindon and Millwall??
Because I can stomach losing to premier league sides in fairness.

One of the biggest myths on here is the amount of “hate” so many have for Wilder.

Many are critical, a handful have been very abusive, but the hate claim is from those that obsessed with CW they can’t even bring themselves to accept he has made wrong decision and pine for a return. Meanwhile, if they read what’s actually been posted rather than push their own take, as over at Pork Talk, many of those now critical have praised him for his huge achievements in the past.

“Hate” get a fucking grip.
No Blade could hate Wilder those four seasons were immense.

Oh come off it. I find it very difficult to believe you just happen to have missed all the really nasty stuff being posted about him. So disingenuous to claim this.

Sunderland were underdogs in them 3 games

& as much luck favoured us in semi as it did them on the opening day. it alot closer than 6-0 made it look than if it had stayed 11 v 11.

its a myth why they gave him a 3 year contact in jan 2025 then axe him he wont come back only has a blades fan with these owners in charge he wont return he takes no fools its best boss ever its there loss hes gone out a kop god no one can do better

I think there's a lot of players that you've managed to block out of your memory. I checked, and found that back in 2021 a newspaper did a compilation after he signed for Boro (https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/sport...is-wilders-sheffield-united-signings-22153059).

A lot of money wasted there. And that was before he went to Boro.
When you work out how many of these ‘good’ signings we actually made any cash on it looks even worse.

It’s an absolute myth he can spot a signing. For every good there’s two he brought in and fell out with.

Yes indeed. Out of 92 league clubs, why is it only Sheffield United who have a section of short vision, live in the past supporters who are obsessed about ex blade people being manager. Sick and unhealthy !
A good majority of fans don’t want to see Wilder back now, but we can’t ignore the fact he’s become a very easy measuring stick of where the club should be and how we need to be performing with this set of players.

I’m not sure Wilder-could motivate this team, the reality is it would not be his team.
There is a deeper problem within our club. Lack of spending built up over a number of years across all aspects of the club is coming back to haunt us.
The new owners need to come out and be honest with its customers of which we are. The reality of running a club the cost and a plan going forward.
I don’t want promotion because we are not set up to survive. Yes I’ll go to Wembley and be disappointed that we didn’t win but deep down knew what was coming if we were promoted.
The club needs to set a strategy for the club which will produce value for years and not just next year. It won’t be smooth and there will be challenges.
We won’t get relegated, and it would be great to be able to leap forward to May and see what is happening

Back that up with posts saying they hate him then.

If you use the search facility looking for “Wilder hate” you’ll find loads from the holier than thou claiming that thousands do. Simple to prove you aren’t talking bollocks.

Noticeable you’ve gone from hate to nasty. I’ve said there were abusive posts.

Better shut up shop then
he said hed win every game he talks alot but no action i want attacking football not players out of position m8 we need wins pal them owners fault they jus sell sell sell dont get quality in to help him win i like ruben selles just wish hes win buddy dohis talikng on the pitch like kop god tufty did

Who would be your second choice if he dropped dead?

Are you even capable of seeing beyond that dinosaur?
We were told Wilder had to go for producing boring wins
We have replaced that with mind numbingly dull defeats with no coherenrt style of play
Jurassic Park where dinosaurs are alive is far better than the current post asteroid collision that is Selles

Other managers are available.

Sorry I don’t agree, I think Wilder had imbedded himself so deeply into this club, his influence on this current set of players has made it almost impossible for this team to move forward under a new progressive coach like Selles.
Let’s be honest here, Hecky was only successful because he identified the need to re-adopt the Wilder model again.
Yes, I want us to develop into a forward thinking club too…But Rome wasn’t build in a day, which is bad news for a young man in a hurry like Selles.

Actually, based on a poll launched straight after the Play-off Final defeat when emotions were very raw, a “good majority” still wanted Wilder to keep his job. It would seem fair to assume that “good majority” hasn’t got any smaller.

Facts are Wilder V2 isn’t a better manager than Heckingbottom, their points per game was the same (slightly worse in the premier league when he came back), but Hecky managed to actually get us promoted and beat the best teams in the league.
Heckingbottom had a better squad in the Championship though so there’s nuance to the discussion. Any team with Ndiaye, Berge, Doyle and McAtee involved is going to do ok.

How on earth can you properly say that a majority of fans don't want him back, or am I unaware of a poll of all us fans.that says so?
I'm not saying I want him back but deary me.
