Agree….i was a Wilder-in man
But the way his departure has split the fanbase shows there’s was a clear problem.
When any manager has so much power it’s dangerous.

True fans should love Sheff Utd first…..the manager and any players should always come second.

I would have thought SUFC comes first to everyone on here? How much "power" did Wilder have? He got sacked and had to leave.

The fact is, it was clearly a mistake and a bigger mistake was appointing Selles

With wilder you get passion, pride, grit, identity, unity on the pitch. Let's not forget what the Blades are all about and get above our station. The problem is that these new owners don't seem to understand the club or the heritage and what it took to get this club who were skint only a few seasons ago up to 92 points. Wilder did this. Swallow pride, get him back if he will come or go for Dyche.

The way this guy is performing its more likely to be 22nd

Who told you ? Not necessarily a name but a little bit of meat on the bones?
I'm not hanging myself out there and I'm not pretending I know what's happening or what will happen.

Just that I'm willing to believe what I was told about one of the owners making contact to acknowledge a regrettable decision was made.

Grow up and realise getting rid of Wilder was correct.

It's okay to realise Selles may have been a poor appointment and a change is needed

2 things can be correct at once. Fuck me, some of you.
I think this is where I am.

It may well be a mistake. Would take a brave board to fire him so soon but today was pathetic for the vast majority.

But, moving on was right. And I still support us changing the overall ethos. Just get the right man to do it.

I'm really not surprised the squad are all over the place.

Reasons:
  • Lost a play off final.
  • Lost the manager who gentlemen to a 92 point season.
  • Lost key players from starting 11.
  • Got thrashed at home opening day of season.
  • Now the crowds against them.

All the above is going to massively effect and chip away at morale.

To play devils advocate he also rebuilt a completely confidence shattered squad into promotion front runners with very little money into a side that 9 times out of 10 would have been promoted. Granted, the football could have been better but every fan would swap those results and performances for what we’ve just witnessed in the last 4 games
Results yes but performances after Souter was injured were not easy to watch at times

And yet we lost three on the bounce to a very average Millwall and a shockingly bad Oxford and Plymouth. He continued to play a patently unfit Sydie Peck and his failure to react to a change of tactics by Sunderland at half time in the playoffs cost us promotion. He was great in spells for us but he was also pretty bad so let's not act as though he's perfect now he's gone.

As to getting above our station what does that even mean?

The years Wilder has been in charge of United bar only the ridiculous COVID season(s) were the best this club has seen for a generation.
Managers capable of succeeding with a low budget club like ours are few and far between.
I my thick end of 60 years watching I can name just 4 out of all our managers across that time. Harris, Warnock, Bassett Wilder.
It'll be a long wait till we find the next one.
Thank you to all those who hounded Wilder out after the club's best ever points haul in the second tier.
You know who you are. It's time to stop writing the stupid justification posts. You got it so wrong. We'll likely be many years getting a manager to make us competitive again.

All for binning Selles off if things don’t turn around but please can we work on a future and not keep turning too the past?
There are valid reasons not to want Wilder back but citing his age and the fact that he's managed the club before aren't among them. There are plenty of players and managers who have successfully returned to former clubs. In most other leadership roles, bosses in their 50's are seen as being at the top of their game.

I'm tired of vacuuous cliches like 'look to the future and not the past' and 'we need a forward-thinking manager not a dinosaur'. At best they mean nothing. At worst they imply we should give the job to someone who talks a good game but doesn't have the necessary experience.

I was against Wilder getting the boot - thought he deserved another crack after rebuilding team from Prem - remember state we were in then? Many saw us doing what Luton did.
Was shocked when they sacked him - they took too long over it and not having his replacement lined up (as I expected when he left) so we had another delay- I couldn’t believe then it was Selles (just can’t see why him !) but all that said and whether we should replace Selles or not we shouldn’t go backwards - so no Hecky and no to CW /AK again. Twice is enough and I think a third time would be crazy. Each time not quite so good as the last. (Old enough to remember Howard Kendall at Everton) Need to move on now. If we sack Selles let’s be sure however who we are after beforehand and be clear on what is needed.
