As it stands, the squad is a lot weaker than last season, and we probably haven't seen the last of the outgoings. The calibre of incomings we're targeting doesn't fill me with much hope.
I suggest you check the squad from the preseason games this time last year, it makes for some really grim reading.

Squad at the moment is miles in front of where we were 12 months ago, the difference between play offs and promotion pushes will be who leaves and who arrives during on August. All our best business last season happened in August.

I think so much is about momentum. Get 2 more signings in before the start of the season and then maybe 2 more Loans in towards the end.

Then if we get a decent return form our first 5 games with a good style of play this will win the fans over and start to build that 12th man impact back again for home games.

I hope you're right

For me its all about filling the problem position of centre back. When Souttar got injured our defensive stats plummeted and the failure to replace him and/or play his replacement ultimately cost us promotion. Bindon is a start but Anels position needs to be sorted asap. I'd like to see some visible signs the club are offering him a contract extension. Alternatively we need to know if he wants to stay or go. Simply letting it drift into the transfer window in the hope we can flog him for a few bob extra at the death will not be acceptable. At a time like this dealing with Anels situation makes the need for a quality Director of Football apparent. Its a hole that I was hoping the new owners would fill as resources in managing contract negotiations and recruitment are thin on the ground if it all is falling at Bettis door again.

Anel Playing alongside a quality CB last season provided a 12 game period with the best defensive stats in the division. Holding would be useful but there are question marks around his ability to play a 46 game season. We need more cover in this key area even if Holding comes on Board. An aerial dominant CB is a must as our failure to deal with hoofwaffen in the 3 game nightmare at the end of last season ultimately proved to be our downfall.

As for starting Robinson if it happens its a backward step. Its like ground hog day. Rinse repeat get out muscled by a big CB, Get out paced by speedy wingers. Lose the man you are marking. It s a decision that could influence how we start the season.

Feeling pretty good and excited about new chapter... but it'll be gutting if we sell Hamer and or Cooper late in the window without tip-top replacements.

With the way we're setting up to play we absolutely need a centre back with pace for when we get caught on the counter attack, Robinson is the opposite of what we need there.

Generally the squad seems pretty good, the areas that need strengthening are obvious. The tactics should make our games more entertaining and hopefully get more reaction from the fans than Wilder's drab sideways and backwards stuff, even though we'll probably lose more than last season as a result

After Textor officially sold yesterday, if he - an investor, a builder compared to our cowboy asset stripping shysters - takes over at Hillsborough THEY will have a better chance of going up this season than United.
He will not suffer the two imbeciles our lot have appointed as managers nor allow fire sales of their assets ie key players. (not that they really had any/many)

Palace and Lyon fans think he's shite.

Have you paid no attention to any of Textors other clubs?

Palace’s success has only come about because they locked him out of any decision making. He needs the money from this sale to fix Lyon.

The least interested I’ve ever felt. And I wasn’t even arsed Wilder went.
It's difficult to get excited about any football match you are interested in now.
eg United male teams and England teams when on TV.
Football has NEVER been this bad, this boring
Often you watch infuriated at the stupidity.
Why? Because the managers are clones of PepShit Coco the clown
He HAD the BEST players and the MOST money of any manager so DID win things.
Despite moronic tactics.
ATTACK WIDE, defend narrow.
If in doubt, get it out.
Most 'attacking' moves now seem to be modeled on acting like flies converging on a fresh pile of smelly runny dog poo just laid in the D for the penalty spot.
Comment above says Akaki played well.
Well not really yet.
At Burton HE was played on his CORRECT side.
He could control and shield better.
When he attacked (WIDE) the defender could only concede a corner.
Three in a couple of minutes.
If he's higher it goes out for a (dangerous long) throw
ie it creates chances. (If delivery is good)
Attacking narrow (generally not at all just passing across a bank of 8 or more defenders around the box edge) relies basically on a lucky ricochet like Hamer goal at home Cardiff was it after disastrous run.
The lucky ric is just as likely to go for the opposition - for them to break quickly.

Listen to his interview.
(He wanted control at Palace - they lied to him. They ****** up re dual ownership)
He holds managers to account.
I cannot see him appointing an utter none descript (if nice but incompetent deluded bloke) like Selles.
He turned a joke club (like United) into the best team in South America.
I do not understand why the French do anything (if at all) let alone acted re the alleged debts.
Football is in a mess re regulation and it will get worse in the UK with the ****s in Parliament involved.

Still worried about Cooper leaving specially after announcement that Man City have bought back Trafford from Burnley.

We look short on quantity and quality, but it can all change quite suddenly.

I'd like to see us bring in some more players on permanent deals and future proof some areas of the team: right back, centre back, and at least one attacking player.

Crucially, I don't want to see us lose Cooper or Hamer. Along with Souttar and Souza, they were who I considered to be our most key players last season.

I'm still somewhat apprehensive about the new owners, their financial commitment to the cause, their intentions etc. I'd hoped to see us really go for it in our final year of parachute payments and, so far, we haven't really seen that... but there's still time.

Right now, we look good for chasing the play-offs but not top two... and I can't be the only Blade that can't muster any excitement for a play-off campaign.

I'm feeling the same now as I did at the end of the season and before Selles was announced. That we will finish top six again but not get automatic promotion. We won't get close to 92 points again as we didn't really deserve 92 last season with the way we played all season, but I'm expecting the matches to be more entertaining to watch, win, lose or draw..... and I'm fine with all of this.

Alleluia couldn't agree more I've been banging on regarding a Director of Football for ages. The new owners have made the pledge that they want us to be an established Premier League club and yet despite 19 of 20 Premier League clubs having DoF or Sporting Directors last season here we are still not going down that route. Also the vast majority of major cllubs throughout Europe have had Dofs/SpDirs for years. I must admit I'm not a fan of Bettis and I feel one of our problems is him with his finger in every pie. Last year he openly stated in an interview with the Star that we would not be having a DofF and it was not the direction we were going in. Now was that Princy in the background not wanting one or wasn't prepared to fund one or was Bettis frightened to upset Wilder? Well we are now supposed to be going down the "modern" route of football yet the club structure, with the exception of Selles and his staff, remains the same!!! Is this due to the new owners taking crap advice from "one trick pony" Bettis? Like you I believe we need an experienced, quality Director of Football to take the "football" decisions away from Bettis. I also agree regards the CB position, Bindon is a good addition, but we again require an upgrade in quality and experience.

It’s looking like a very competitive league this year brum an Wrexham making good signings plus the 3 that’s come down chuck cov and Norwich and WBA all to the mix with your Boro’s at the moment I see nothing but a midtable to a play off spot I don’t think we will be anywhere near the top 4 we need signings at least 3 or 4 top quality players even if their loans maybe wear waiting til the prem squads get announced but at the minute I see us short on quality. PREDICTION 5th to 10th
Agree 👍

Cooper going is nothing short of a disaster he is the best in the Championship so if they have any nounce they keep him at all costs plus we need a decent keeper for the PL. AI wants EMP'ing if he goes. There is no replacement good enough.

Personally I can not see him going unless we get crazy money like 30-50 million.

Pretty flat at the minute still considering the playoff disaster and knowing that is probably the best we can hope for again this season.
The initial excitement of getting new owners at the start of the year has now gone given it's clear they can't or won't significantly boost the money coming into the club. It was the Prince's only real issue. He wasn't a bad owner otherwise

For me we’ve got some of the most talented players in the league, without doubt best goalkeeper. Our midfield is one of the most talented and we’ve got plenty of good strikers. Burrows and Siriki are amongst the best as well.

This team should comfortably make playoffs (anything less for a club with parachute payments is abject failure) and we ought to be contesting the top four. If Selles represents a tactical improvement in the dugout and we get 2-3 quality additions in, then we should be going for automatic.

It might not be that they haven't got the cash, it's probably more that they can't splash it because of FFP. Every player signed for a fee if a loss towards FFP, unless we offload Hamer or Anel to balance things. We don't yet have the "homegrown" players to sell for pure profit to aide this. I think if we don’t go up this season then they'll splash the cash next summer, as we may well get decent offers for the likes of Seriki and Brooks. It's annoying to nurture and develop young players with the intention of selling them, but that's what FFP makes you do these days. Other clubs have excelled at this and as per usual we're years behind them.

style of play & how we’ve adapted to it in such a short time is both exciting and promising.

Granted, not the best of test opposition-wise. It looks vulnerable to quick counter-attacks and better Championship sides will exploit & punish us. With this high-line and forward first mentality, obvious we need to plug several positions.

I’d say a RB to rotate with & mentor Seriki maybe more defensively-minded. Two CB’s, if Anel leaves, then 3. Happily will have Holding back, if price -or loan fee- is right. A CDM to replace the Vini Souza gap. I’d also say a RW - to mentor Brooks and allow AI signings to go on loan and develop. If Moore leaves, another ST to compete with Cannon & Campbell.
That last paragraph has left me dizzy 😂

Miles off the squad we had for the end of last season and play offs

Sold one of our best players and sent all our loans back

And replaced them with Barry Louis

Call me pessimistic
