Arsenal for me. They are "all at sea" at the moment, even if they don't make the top four they are still in a European spot so it would be a place in the Europa cup still, as I can't see Spurs getting past them even if Everton do. Whereas Wigan are just winning machines at the moment. On the flip side Forest where sixteen without a loss until we sorted them and Snidy Davies has gone as they have been so poor since that great day at the lane.

If we lose I hope its Wigan against Hull, I think it would be very close and therefore a good game.

This isn`t true.

Th place only goes to the losers if the winners are in the Champions League. If Arsenal finished 5th and won the cup, they wl take the place in the EL from winning the cup and the 5th place spot would go to the 6th place team (or 7th placed team if the 6th place team alray has the EL spot from the League cup)

Fair enough. I still think Arsenal are on a slide though.

Fuck Arsenal, can't stand them and we have a poor record in the cup against them. Would love to play Wigan, it'd be an all Football League final. Do any of you stat-chaps know of an FA Cup final with no teams from the top tier ever occurring? Could that be a first?

Even if Arsenal finish fourth, presuming they win the FA Cup, the runners up would miss out if Man U win the CL as Man U would be awarded the CL spot earmarked for 4th place.

If we can get to the final of the FA Cup, Man U can get to the final of the CL

We have to beat Hull to get to the FA Cup final. Man UTD have to beat Bayern Munich TWICE just to get to the semi finals of the UCL. There's a difference.

It would be.

I can't understand why anyone would want to play Arsenal rather than Wigan. That's nuts.

I'm just a little bit partial to Wigan, but only because their Chairman, Dave Whelan, came out in support of us over the West Ham/Tevez affair. Never forgotten that fact, think he's quite old school in his belief that there's a right way of doing things, and as far as manager's go he must be a dream to work for.

Yup.

I'd like to see a Wigan v Blades final for two reasons
  1. We'd be in the final
  2. The FA would be besides themselves at no PL representation

The only benefit would be if they had tied 4th place in the League up, then we'd be in Europe next year just by turning up. As someone who believed I'd never see the Blades in Europe, that'd be some turn up.

Obviously I'd trade it in for a better shot at actually winning the Cup though!

Wigan. I don't care about Europe, or Arsenal being a big team or owt else. Fact is, I don't want to turn up and get beaten 5/6 nil like Bradford did last season. Wigan may beat us 1/2 nil but it certainly wouldn't be embarrassing. I'm all for a 'day out' but that is the semi, if we win the semi, I would return to Wembley wanting to WIN, not for another £200 day out!

It's a no brainer - Wigan

Could we beat Arsenal with our false 9 game - NO, they are too good.

Could be beat Wigan - definitely, as they are a Championship side. Our play against a decent Forest team was spot on, patient, deliberate and calculated. We could do the same against Wigan.

Can't believe anyone wants Arsenal - we should go with one thing in mind - to win, and we have a much better chance against Wigan.

What's the point in going to make up the numbers and give Arsenal their first trophy in 11 years?

UTB

Arsenal. There is an Arsenal fan coming over here and it would be great to watch it together.

Though it would be pretty good to watch it together with him, knowing they lost in the semi's.

I don't think our FA cup record is that bad against them, I'm sure it's something like 3 wins to 6 defeats, which for the size and stature of each club aint too bad. Although I'd much rather play Wigan if we were to get to the final.

Only so far though, mate. The club that actually backed us throughout the litigation was Fulham. They deserve our respect for that.

As for the question, I'm running out of opportunities to see my beloved team in an FA Cup final. Anyone...absolutely anyone!

Just thinking about it and we have played Arsenal a fair bit in the cup in the last 20 years or so.
96 Beat them in a replay at the Lane (Carl Veart scored a header)
99 Lost 2-1 twice at Highbury ;) 5th round?
03 Lost 1-0 in the Semi at Old Trafford
05 Lost on pens in replay at BDTBL after drawing at Highbury with a late Andy Gray penno

So we've seen them a fair bit, but not for 9 years, so we're due :D

Ah, this is where your brain has better recollection than mine Pinchy, but on a purely personal note I'll plump for Whelan as he's still in charge and.....well, I just like what he said at the time. As you say though, if Fulham were vocal in their support that sort of thing should always be remembered. Where jackals and hyenas fear to tread shall men of virtue and calibre stand firm and step up to the challenge, or summat like that

Haha you worry too much. Man U have NO CHANCE of winning the champions league. We are far more likely to win the cup than they are to even get to the final.

Not just vocal, mate. They were actually a party to the (unsuccessful) judicial review against the FA, so shared the costs, no doubt at a percentage between the clubs; they had a lot less to gain than us. We then fought alone (successfully) on the question of damages.

I'd definitely rather have Wigan. If we do get to the final, I want to win it and we'd have a better chance against them than Arsenal.

Told you your memory was better than mine. I appreciate that detail often gets forgotten, so well done for nudging me, and well done Fulham too....knew my birthplace had something going for it. They're one of those...what did Cloughie call us? A proper football club, although I suspect all the Premiership luggage has changed it significantly since the days when I watched Johnnie Haynes play for 'em.....but then it was the visit of United with Jones and Birchenall upfront that changed my football affections forever. Who woulda thunk it?

I love the post but do u really think the absolute fcukin wankers at the fa are going to let no premier league side be in final ,dont be daft ,mark my words ,watch some of the decisions made by refs, trust me

and if wigan do beat arsenal, we will be the ones copping for it. I'm going to Wembley confident we can get something. but I can guarantee a dodgy decision will go against us, it always does :(

And in the League Cup in 2007 and 2008.

Neither. Either. Don't care. Man Utd but they aren't in it. Gunner be Arsenal anyway shirley? And no, i won't stop calling you shirley.

Everton will nick 4th place, it's the Blades way.

Man u wont get to the champs league final this season

Arsenal are now under huge pressure to win this competition, where as no one would expect anything of us. So if given the choice, its the nervy Gunners for me.
