Injuries

The manager of our football club gave someone who had a couple of really bad injuries a long term contract. Surely that was bad judgement?

Oh dear.

Wilder didn’t give him the long contract. Wilder himself was on a very short term contract at the time and RND’s agent approached the club for an improved deal.

There wasn’t a lot of choice at the time and he was on a very low contract. The timing wasn’t great when the players agent requested it.

For what it’s worth there are numerous players who get signed for our club and elsewhere that aren’t the managers pick.

Very often the manager will tell the club he wants to buy or keep a player and there are others within the club that do the deals not the manager. A manager standing over a player for a contract signing doesn’t automatically mean the manager signed off on the contract duration or value.

In our case probably that "one trick pony" Bettis

I could be wrong, but I do feel like Wilder would have had a lot of say in that decision... and it was a terrible one.

A higher-up (whoever that would be) should have said "absolutely not."
RND had no leverage, so not sure why we extended for such a long duration.

So, what you're saying is, any good decisions made by the club were down to Wilder but any bad decisions made by the club were down to some shadowy figure in the background and nothing to do with Wilder? Right.

Not said that at all. Nonsense comment

As far as I know, from the time, the agent came directly to the club and the club took the decision. Whilst I am sure Wilder was involved in the decision to keep him for his squad, his remit was just to get the players ready for the season. There was a lot of things happening and it sounded frantic

RND had the leverage that there weren’t many players coming in. We hadn’t secured Souttar, Burrows had just arrived but we were looking / expecting to sell Anel.

I don’t think anyone was under any illusion that RND was the answer as he wasn’t fully fit, so the improved contract request came out of the blue and I don’t think it was particularly welcomed.

Again it was only what I picked up at the time.

One thing I fear from the intensity Selles is trying to instil in the team - in training and on matchdays - is more injuries. I got a sense that when Wilder came back he dialled things down a notch in training post-Hecky. The result being fewer injuries, but also a number of players unable to go much past the 70 minute mark in games.
