Canon or Archer

Archer is a better finisher. Both lack strength and real pace. Millwall bought Josh Coburn from Middlesbrough for £5M. He was on loan there last year. He is the guy that scored at Bramall Lane and absolutely bullied Jack Robinson. He has a good touch for a big lad.

Archer and Canon are OK with support and someone creating chances for them. But both are expensive options.

It sums up what we want. Archer is proven to not be good enough in PL.

Not saying I think Cannon is, but if we were to somehow swap him for someone, I would want at least potential of being able to do it in the top flight

Archer is proven to be a top striker at Championship level. Cannon isn't.

It's not possible to buy PL players in the Championship. The only team that have done this that I can remember were Wolves, with the ridiculous spending on fees and wages and the dodgy agent helping them.

We went up before without players anyone would fancy to become PL players and they did well. You need to build a good team, hope they keep you up and then begin to bring in quality.

I didn't mean PL players, I meant a player with potential to step up.

My point was its better to sign the next gyokeres, not just a good championship striker.

I might eat my words, but if Archer stays at Southampton in championship I don't think he will be as good as people remember him being at this level.

Archer finds the target. Cannon can always misfire or go anywhere.

Both relatively similar strikers in a way. Ideally you want both on the end of a chance, running in behind, or with the ball at their feet in the box. Don't really want either of them involved in the build up.

Cannon's only goal, v West Brom, could also have been an Archer goal - clinical striker's smashed finish.

I get you, but when Coventry signed Gyokeres they thought he was a good Championship striker.

If Cannon bangs in 30 next season, he'll look like the sort of player that always had potential. Most of this analysis is hindsight. When Brentford sold us O'Connell, they thought he was trash, perhaps with the potential to play in the Championship but not good enough for them. Turns out he had PL potential.

The next Gyokeres is a player that 90% of the forum haven't heard of, who would cost a few million despite having done little in his career and has a big chance of being a flop.

The only thing with Gykores was it was clear he had the physical attributes. He was tall and strong, and was surprisingly fast for a player of his size.

Saying that so was Oli Burke...!

Cannon barely played more than 15-20 mins at a time, often on his own, when we were ahead and Wilder had decided to shut up shop. I don't think we've seen enough of him in the right formation or right circumstances to judge him fairly yet. I think half the reason he gets so much flak is the price tag. Be honest, if we'd bought Peck or Seriki for that same fee then people would be more hypocritical of their faults (of which they do have them), and far less supportive of them. People wouldn't be bigging up Peck, they'd be saying he gives away the ball too much and hasn't scored any goals for the price we'd paid. And before people reply with Peck is only 20 and Seriki 21, Cannon is only 22.

I'm hoping with the right partner, and he does need to play up top with a partner and not alone, we'll see a different player this season.

Yes.

Archer was brilliant in the championship. I don’t think Cannon impacts games. He’s got a good clean strike on him but other than that I don’t think he has an outstanding attribute. Hes not big and strong, he’s not particularly quick and he’s not really skilful.
10 mill :mad::(😭😭😭😭

Wasn't the first time he started, in a 2, when we set up to attack, the game away at Burnley (best defence in the league) and he scored.
There is definitely a player in there just don't think he was used at all correctly by Wilder.

Absolutely, clean slate all round.
I really believe that Selles with his tactical nous and formation will bring out a different Cannon to what wilder did. We will will see the Cannon that scored 4 goals for Stoke v Portsmouth last season.
