Arise Tom Davies

I thought he was a good signing at the time but I think he had 1 or 2 really good games for us and the rest were ok. I'm yet to be convinced that he's a top Championship player, let alone whether he can keep fit.

He’s got over 200 premier league appearances to his name. If he can regain and maintain fitness, he’s better than a top Championship player,

This season should be a bit of a defining one for TD.
He will have had the back end of last season, summer and a full pre season to get him ready so barring a freak accident / injury, he should be in the best possible condition.

He is a class above in this division and if he plays anything close to 80-90% of the time, he will be a huge influence on the team.

Lovely lad it seems but only averaging a dozen games per season over the last 8 or so years. This decades James Wallace, as we wait in vain for him to become injury free, with occasional bursts of fitness reminding us what we are missing!!

Injury hit. Hence “if he can regain and maintain fitness”
Ask an Everton fan when he last had form? 4/5 years ago. What do you think he's regaining? He started our as a talented young lad and then never progressed.

People expecting him to suddenly be a reliable top Championship midfielder need a reality check. If he can maintain fitness he'll be a useful squad player who will start some games but he's in no way a replacement for Souza.

200 top flight appearances at 27 would suggest he progressed just fine, despite a couple of bad injuries. I’m a fan because when I’ve watched him for us he’s technically excellent, comfortable on the ball under pressure, has a great eye for a pass, and seems to want to be progressive rather than safe. He looks like someone that has played at a higher level. I’m excited to see what he can bring if we can get him fit and a run of games.

Neither of us are going to convince each other here.

The issue with Davies is not in his ability, like you say, he's a class player and he has done it over a a number of years in the Premier League. But the issue is in his ability to consistently be fit to play. I'm not pinning too many hopes on him staying fit for more than 50% of the season. Similar question with Arblaster, until they've both had a run of 10 games or more, its hard to rely on them both.

Carlos Ancelotti built his midfield around him before the run of injuries started. Ancelotti is without any doubt a better judge of a player than you.

The key is the injuries and whether they are now behind him, which does happen. We’ve already seen that they certainly haven’t dulled his ability. We’ll have to wait & see. Not yet one to rely on, but could end up being pivotal to our season.

He's played 1,656 league minutes in 4 seasons. That's the equivalent of 18.4 full games.

We need to think of him as a specific role player, 15-20 minutes, play 2 out of every 3 etc. 35 sub apps of 20 minutes each would be the most he's played in minutes since 20/21

With long term injury problems it makes sense to only view him as a "Finisher". When he's available he can subbed on for the last twenty/thirty minutes to play whichever central role is required in the game state. Occasional starts only.

Good player, terrible luck with injuries.

It's a shame Tom Davies has been injured for so much of his career, he is very clearly a very talented individual. He's exactly what you want in a box to box midfielder, he's a good dribbler with passing range and excellent vision. He's got loads of energy and reads the game well. If it weren't for his injuries, he'd be a Premier League player.

His injuries remain a concern, though. As others have said above me, this seems like a defining season for him. He's in his physical prime, yet his body has kept giving up on him. If he can stay fit, I think he'll be one of the best players in the Championship. If not, he may never play Premier League football again. I'm not giving up on him, he showed his class when healthy last season, and there must be some reason he was Everton's youngest ever captain and a Golden Boy nominee. I'm backing him.

And if you're ever in the market for some furniture made out of chopsticks, look no further than Sheffield United's number 22!

Honestly who on earth decided to give him a new contract. Between him and Brewster we have millions of quidsworth of players that can barely do a full half.

I like them both, they can be good on their day (if/when they actually get some minutes) but they are literally useless most of the time.

We haven’t given him a new contract he is just entering the final year of the first one.

Is he at least in the last year of his contract now?

He never signed a new one did he? Just the initial 3 year deal, which for some reason RND was also charitably gifted

So that's the consolidation. This time next year he'll be gone. But I'm sure we stuck him on a wage plenty big enough to sting us

Any actual confirmation that he's injured or just speculation because he didn't play last night?

Blimey we didn't half sign some useless crocks under Wilder.

At least Selles has publicly stated
"NO CROCKS"

He better feckin mean it.
