Prompted by the ongoing Tom Davies and Jamie Shackleton situations:

Who’s been our most unavailable player?

There could be different categories, maybe:

Loan
1 year contract
2 year contract
3 year contract

So who are the most unavailable players we've ever signed?

Steve Paterson, signed from Man U for £60K in summer 1980. Got injured in a pre-season match and never played in a competitive game for us. This beats John Ebbrell!

He is top row 4th from left.

Steven William Paterson (born 8 April 1958) is a Scottish football manager and former player.

Nicknamed "Pele", after six first team games for Manchester United, his career was curtailed due an injury in a pre-season game after transferring to Sheffield United. Despite this and problems as well as a long-term gambling and alcohol addiction, he did have a footballing career with spells in Hong Kong, Australia and Japan where in 1983 he was the first overseas player to play there.

In recent memory Charlie Goode and Harry Clarke loans were very disrupted by injury - thankfully.

Louie Barry maybe from this season. Also just shit.
