The problem isn't a person. The board want all players to be recruited by Artificial Intelligence. Whereas CW wants to sign eg Hamza who would do a good job for us. But the AI hasn't selected him. If CW has gone the new manager would have to agree to AI being the way forward. So a Yes man just to get a job.

I've not watched this or anything but haven't heard if he is still at all involved with us you know.
Back in the summer and into the season Wilder mentioned him and how he'd got on well with him.

My concern at the minute aside from the managerial issue is. Is there a football person. (A scout or a group of scouts really) Also assessing what the AI is throwing up?
Because if they are not we could well sign some questionable players based on the fact they have the stats of pace and dribbling at - 20. (Bit of champ man stats for you there)

Feels like people who use the phrase "artificial intelligence" are the same people who used to say "world wide web" which usually meant they know sod all about it.

Is this based on inside knowledge or just speculation?

One of the major issues for me is that Wilder is too loyal to players. If we have a solid starting eleven then he'll sign bench warmers as back up, when he should be signing better players who can force the existing ones to the bench. This is what bit us in the arse and saw us relegated the second season in the Premier League the first time under him.

This in itself could potentially cause ruptions with the owners over recruitment. If they are indeed in favour of recruit to develop and later sell then they won't likely like the idea of wasting money on bit part players who will gradually walk away for nothing having drained wages for the length of their contract and contributed very little overall. i.e. Shackleton, McCallum etc

I bet they aren't even getting a manager. AI will just do it all. Players can just read the instructions that AI has written.

Actually quicker to say world wide web than WWW.
 

Data is nothing new in football , football has always been about data and every single club has always recruited using data for years, but now there is so much more data avaliable in every single aspect of the game, 40 years ago the data used to recruit a striker for instance would be, hes played 100 games in 3 seasons and he's scored 58 goals, he's 23 years old and 6 foot 2, and that's the extent of how it was used now u have assists, xg, headers won, shots on goal, shots from inside the box, outside the box, number of sprints, number of successful dribbles, the list is endless, and then there is the data from fitness tracking etc, so to not use this as a tool for potential signings would be ludicrous and akin to kicking the tyres on an F1 car to see if it had a chance of winning

I laugh at the image of Chris Morgan wearing one of those sports bras whilst stood next to Neil Warnock.

I think there's almost an over analysis these days, just as there is sometimes over coaching which takes all instincts and natural decision making away for players resulting in endless pointless pass backs "because the manager told us to." It's why younger players are often so exciting when they first break into a team, because they're raw and inexperienced. They play with intuition. They get some right, some wrong but at least they're not mindless drones.

I would hope that predictive modelling would be something that comes into play. There are long regarded thoughts about whether too many games too early will hamper a later career, when people peak and decline, what various injuries do to the longevity of players etc and being able to feed data to a model to try to better predict these kinds of things would be very useful. I'm guessing the data piece will be more about ruling out players rather than asking GPT to highlight decent players.
 
All AI is being used for in this case is to analyse data much quicker than a human could do it.

So, you put in a bunch of filters in and the AI will search the stars database we pay for access to.

It should be the same results a human would come up with but it's quicker and faster.

There's no problem with using this but we'd then need to follow up with human analysis. I would hope, some form of scouting or at least scouting assessment.

Ditto. I'd expect all the players' medical/fitness info is in a database and it's being analysed to try and predict future behaviour.

I'm glad it's not just me who understands this and doesn't think the club are using Chat GPT or asking Alexa!!! 😂

Some people on here are humorously ignorant and subsequently closed minded due to this ridiculous belief.

It'll be similar data that unearthed Beni Traore last summer, who may well have gone on to be a good player in the Championship for us. Ironically he's excelled on the left wing last season, a position we didn't have any players for in the squad after we sold him. 13 goals and 8 assists in 37 games for Basel.

Pretty exciting. I'd hope some of the board are invested in medtech and analytics in that area that we can bring in to the new facility. Could also add to the tension between CW and board in that there may be a need to completely rip up the current fitness programme and build something that isn't old school which may mean getting a new sports science head.
