Didn’t though did we? I wonder why that was?

They also lost a lot less and were a much better watch scored 95 goals to our 63 whilst also managing to concede less as well.

Give me that type of football to the boring dross we had to suffer most of the season

A hundred times this!

Badge thumping isn't what we pay to watch. Nor is the lead 'culture carrier' clearing off on the final whistle at Wembley.

We deserve better. The 92 points are now utterly irrelevant as a talking point, and we look ahead to a new season.

We didn't go up. We should have.

I think we are going to see a lot of seasons now where 92 points isn't enough for top 2...

92 points next season will get you top 2.
Cannot see it being another 2 teams bettering that again.
It's becoming less likely that 92 points is enough for automatics.

Here's where it would have got us over the last 10 seasons
2015/16: Second (Burnley top with 93, Middlesbrough second with 89)
2016/17: Third (Newcastle top with 97, Brighton second with 93)
2017/18: Second (Wolves top with 99, Cardiff second with 90)
2018/19: Second (Norwich top with 94, we were second with 89)
2019/20: Second (Leeds top with 93, West Brom second with 83)
2020/21: Second (Norwich top with 97, Watford second with 91)
2021/22: Champions (Fulham top with 90, Bournemouth second on 88)
2022/23: Second (Burnley top on 101, we were second with 91)
2023/24: Third (Leicester top with 96, Ipswich second on 94)
2024/25: Third (Leeds top with 100, Burnley second on goal difference)

In the last 5 seasons, the team finishing second has got at least 91 points four times (the exception is 2021/22). In the five previous seasons, only Brighton got past that mark. In order to be certain of automatic promotion, I'd say that a team now has to get 93/94 points.

Hoping this is the last time it needs saying ( it won't be) but 92 -2 does not = 92....

IMO seeing promotion as the end goal is short-sighted. We need to be planning for what we do after promotion and how that will help us maintain a position in the top flight.
Was going to reply exactly that.

Quoting "92 points" only further emphasises the point.

We need a 5 year plan that sees us strategizing about how we're not only going to get promotion and avoid relegation, but kick on and on.

This fascination with trying to justify Wilder/92 points/style of play etc, misses the point completely.

Where's the infrastructure that is going to drive our growth and development? What are we going to different to the other promoted sides who fail year on year? What's our differentiator?

Nah fuck it, top 6 is a good season, and Wilder is alreyt, stop yer fookin moaning....

He was deffo in London yesterday though … what for is anyone’s guess

I think we are going to see a lot of seasons now where 92 points isn't enough for top 2...
Agreed. The result of the widening gap between PL and Championship and effect of parachute payments, making it all the more important to strike and get back up straight away, when the opportunity comes.

The key question for us is can we, in reality, go again after yet another play off failure and the almost certain loss of some players that may have played a key part in last season's run to the final?

Nah fuck it, top 6 is a good season, and Wilder is alreyt, stop yer fookin moaning....
Can we ban the use of 92 points, for one we only got 90 due to our actions on and off the pitch and for another if it was 92 it was still 8 points off promotion, 9 due to goal difference.

If Wilder had done his job on Oxford, Plymouth and Milwall we would have 101 points and promoted. But we were deducted 2 points for breaking the clear rules so would have been on 99.

If pigs get docked points the 92 apology brigade will be cheering.

START LOOKING FORWARDS NOT BACKWARDS.

The only 'culture carrier' I want to see at this club next season is the club's sports scientist.
Judging by how unfit our players were/are - that cnut would be the first out of the door.

How we can have players who can't do more than 60 mins at the end of 9months in this sporting programme is beyond me....

Does anyone have any idea, if wilder as been seen at shirecliffe since end of season, know he's allegedly been on holiday
Players and staff tend to take holidays after the season ends before returning for pre-season training.

I suggest you look at our history over the past half-century and where we've finished each season.

Wilder hasn't drilled anything into my brain. I've experienced 46 seasons supporting the Blades. I know for a fact that a top 6 Championship finish is historically a good season.
Thal settle for owt pal😂

Yer never know, Tootle might be good enough for us. Certainly knows our slow sluggish build up, desperate long balls with no striker on and trying to win 1-0

63 years a Blade here and like many others I'm sick of not having a place at the top table on a regular basis.

The complete structure of the club needs "modernisation" not just AI and data led recruitment.

Blinkers need removing to see how football has moved on in the "modern era" something we have not done. We need to stop being an "excuse" club and stop settling for a "top 6" finish in the Championship as a success story.

19 of 20 Premier League clubs had Directors of Football/Sporting Directors last season. Clubs in Europe have had them for years. Wilder and Bettis have both historically been anti DofF/SpDir.

Since we are going down the data route in April 25 in the Premier League % minutes used by foreign players was 70.7%. The Championship % minutes used by foreign players was 56.3%. Sheffield United % minutes used by foreign players was 35.4%. So despite what CW/SB may prefer, foreign players are an integral part of the "modern" game.

In the inaugural season of the Premier League in 1982 there was only one non-British manager - Joe Kinnear manager of Wimbledon, born in Republic of Ireland. Last season 16 of the 20 Premier League "coaches" were non-British. Again non-British "coaches" are an integral part of "modern" football.

There are constant comments about what we've done in the "past", what manager did what in the "past". Constantly comparing us to other Championship clubs and what they have done. We should be looking at certain clubs in the Premier League of a similar or smaller size than us who have got a foothold at the top table.

Forest 7th place. Qualified for Europe missed Champions League by 1 point, 3 years back in Premier League.

Brighton 8th place. Qualified for Europe the other year first time ever. 8 years in Premier League.

Bournemouth 9th place. 3 years in Premier League, 8 out of last 10 in Premier League.

Brentford 10th place. 4 years in Premier League.

Fulham 11th place. 3 years in Premier League, 17 out of last 24 in Premier League.

Crystal Palace 12th place. 12 years in Premier League. Oh and this year's FA Cup winners.

In my opinion the Wilder/Bettis show will not get us "established" at the top table, as I believe they have had their own way to long. Prince Abdullah and his board were absentee "landlords" either in the States or Saudi only turning up when things were going well. If our new owners are not careful the same Wilder/Bettis show will continue, as the saying goes "when the cats away the mice will play".

I feel there needs to be another member of the board with a no nonsense approach and top flight football knowledge to guide the club in the direction the new owners want. Additionally there needs to be a Director of Football/Sporting Director appointed. If certain people are not on board with both those appointments and the way the club needs to move forward then they need reminding that they are employees of Sheffield United and the "tale doesn't wag the dog".

Anyway off to bed now here in the Austrian Tyrol gazing at a beautiful full moon shining over the mountain tops, will we ever reach the same heights???
