New Manager ?

No wonder we never get anywhere as a club. Our fanbase needs to be more ambitious, why are we so happy with mediocrity? Boro have been much more successful than us, they have been in Europe and won the league cup in the past 25 years. West Brom have spent much more time in the Prem than us. We should be aspiring for much more for a club our size.
Boro were at the point one of the biggest spenders in the premier league as the chairman was more than willing to bankroll them.

63 years a Blade here and like many others I'm sick of not having a place at the top table on a regular basis.

The complete structure of the club needs "modernisation" not just AI and data led recruitment.

Blinkers need removing to see how football has moved on in the "modern era" something we have not done. We need to stop being an "excuse" club and stop settling for a "top 6" finish in the Championship as a success story.

19 of 20 Premier League clubs had Directors of Football/Sporting Directors last season. Clubs in Europe have had them for years. Wilder and Bettis have both historically been anti DofF/SpDir.

Since we are going down the data route in April 25 in the Premier League % minutes used by foreign players was 70.7%. The Championship % minutes used by foreign players was 56.3%. Sheffield United % minutes used by foreign players was 35.4%. So despite what CW/SB may prefer, foreign players are an integral part of the "modern" game.

In the inaugural season of the Premier League in 1982 there was only one non-British manager - Joe Kinnear manager of Wimbledon, born in Republic of Ireland. Last season 16 of the 20 Premier League "coaches" were non-British. Again non-British "coaches" are an integral part of "modern" football.

There are constant comments about what we've done in the "past", what manager did what in the "past". Constantly comparing us to other Championship clubs and what they have done. We should be looking at certain clubs in the Premier League of a similar or smaller size than us who have got a foothold at the top table.

Forest 7th place. Qualified for Europe missed Champions League by 1 point, 3 years back in Premier League.

Brighton 8th place. Qualified for Europe the other year first time ever. 8 years in Premier League.

Bournemouth 9th place. 3 years in Premier League, 8 out of last 10 in Premier League.

Brentford 10th place. 4 years in Premier League.

Fulham 11th place. 3 years in Premier League, 17 out of last 24 in Premier League.

Crystal Palace 12th place. 12 years in Premier League. Oh and this year's FA Cup winners.

In my opinion the Wilder/Bettis show will not get us "established" at the top table, as I believe they have had their own way to long. Prince Abdullah and his board were absentee "landlords" either in the States or Saudi only turning up when things were going well. If our new owners are not careful the same Wilder/Bettis show will continue, as the saying goes "when the cats away the mice will play".

I feel there needs to be another member of the board with a no nonsense approach and top flight football knowledge to guide the club in the direction the new owners want. Additionally there needs to be a Director of Football/Sporting Director appointed. If certain people are not on board with both those appointments and the way the club needs to move forward then they need reminding that they are employees of Sheffield United and the "tale doesn't wag the dog".

Anyway off to bed now here in the Austrian Tyrol gazing at a beautiful full moon shining over the mountain tops, will we ever reach the same heights???
Top post.

Alas, with only 8 weeks to game time it’s a bit late if they’ve not made the structural changes within the club and it’s old excuse riddled culture.

I’m starting to feel the new owners don’t have the financial clout or drive to do what we were hoping for. The silence is deafening until Widers future is announced.

Mmm! I'm getting a bit twitchy about the owners as well..

Check out statistics for young players/academy this season and you’ll find it is up there. The really important part of the stat is that it is good on a number of levels, if the board can’t afford to sign players they develop them. If the board want to add value and sell players on then that is the way they can do it. In the last couple of seasons Sunderland have just gone down the developing young exciting players and even watching them a couple of seasons ago it was clear that they had started to go in the right direction. The new board don’t seem to be doing this they appear to be fascinated by AI which is not really a plan and so far (early days) as seen two players who will not get in the first team but we were told that they could be sold on. In my opinion I’d rather go down the academy route and bits of experience brought in. How old was Bellingham when he went to Sunderland 19 and cost a million they’ve sold him for a fortune. Why do we need AI to pick up young players playing in Bulgaria when you’ve probably got 100x more under your own noses and who are more than likely not suffer from uprooting from another country amongst other things. All the young lads aren’t ready yet but why not chuck One and others on and let them develop. It requires bravery from staff and owners and to be fair i think we are delivering on it.

View attachment 213170I would piss my pants if this is true.
No way would we want to pay that compo for him.
Nor do that. I'm not even sure the hype about him is that justified yet. But alot of coaches seem to rate him of course.

The only funny thing would be. Would the Wednesday fans sing sausage roll back at him if the roles were reversed. Because apparently that was borderline offensive.

I don't think they are looking to change manager anyway. Despite these "rumours". If they did. One I think they would have done it by now. And two I reckon they'd want someone with a wee bit more track record. Even if they are from abroad.

I do think he will be told that they don't want to see hundreds of thousands of pounds spent on fines next season mind you.

Hey Chris. Stop signing former players.

I think they’re definitely looking at changing manager, just a case of finding one that’s worth their salt. I’m all for it just for the absolute shithousery and complete switcheroo of him being shite if he came.

What makes anyone truly think we are actively seeking to change our manager ?

Honest question btw

Honest answer. Putting the history of him scuttling out of the back door with a Aldi bag full of money aside ;) , Wilder does not have technical and tactical attributes to run a modern state of the art football team that the new owners say they have aspirations to develop.

If they came in with a clean sheet regarding playing and management staff and set up interviews Wilder would not meet their brief (imo). If they had that luxury they would appoint a DoF, head coach and scouting staff to deliver their vision. Begs the question do the new owners have the skills and resources to pick the right man to deliver their vision? They are the enigma, we know Wilder but we don’t know the shadowy new owners.

I worked for an American company for most of my working life and they are good at top to bottom management, no jobs for the old boys or Carothers has always done it that way. It’s boom, boom, bang.

They do use a degree of meritocracy but they set the vision, mission and objectives of the CEO and appoint their man to deliver their vision. Everyone else has to align their goals, roles and responsibilities to theirs or else. They are good at it.

Wilder with his stubborn set ways wouldn't get to the final interview stage so why would they want to keep him?

As stated above the new owners are the enigma. From what we know there are a few prominent front men but over 100 Co owners / investors. I wanted a single toward thinking owner because I don’t believe in running a football club by committee. But we are where we are.

The new owners have made one mistake already, extending Wilders contract. Or have they? Who knows there might have been a big bonus for achieving promotion and an optional severance clause for failing. Another attribute of American business.

If they don’t have a get out clause they are about to make a second big mistake by putting a Ford engine in a Rolls Royce and hoping it runs better.

My money is on him staying but with an overlord (mistake, will just be conflict). But I’ll be delighted if by the end of this week we announce his mutual departure (and he deserves a good pensioning) and the announcement of a DoF who will within days announce a new Head Coach.

With all the distractions and shenanigans over in S6 now is the time to get the news out there!

An afterthought, I wouldn’t be against Wilder having some role in an advisory capacity but I don’t think he would work well as a team.

Our style of play was set by knill because of the brilliance that Souttar was in in defence and it worked very effectively so no need to change. Souttar wasn’t replaced and we didn’t adapt to another pattern and instead we continued to play the same way. My posts said as much months ago when I said we had the attacking players to play another way. If he’s still here is first job is to get a Souttar style player even if he costs 5m and then look at what areas we need further forward as they will sell and fingers crossed the board don’t bring in another couple of players found in teams from a league in Uzbekistan. Interestingly most on here slated me for berating previous owners but if the board bring in tons of AI players this summer I’ll be going mental again.
We are only allowed 4 players under new rules (points system) any others would hae to have the minimum points required which is 15.

Worth noting that 92 points with our GD would have been enough for automatic promotion in 27 out of the past 30 seasons, and enough to outright win it in more than 10 too.

Typical fortune for the Blade. Can't we curse the cursers? Time the club appointed a resident witch.

Just as 'relegation form' doesn't always result in relegation, 'promotion form' doesn't always result in promotion. The term implies a series of results that would result in promotion (or relegation) in an average season.
Our form in the 2nd half of the season certainly wasn't 'promotion' form

They have not put Wilders future in doubt! It's the media and fans that are suggesting this.
The owners will not comment on rumours like this.!

I'm starting to wonder if the owners have got a pot to piss in. It really is time we saw a bit of action one way or the other either come out and say we are sticking with Wilder or get rid. Looks to me like the club is in limbo are we waiting to do deals until a new manager is in place or what? You would like to think new owners would have the resources to move quickly to improve the squad but it would seem like everything is on hold apart from a new pitch. No recruitment, no start on the new training ground, nothing at all is happening ............... and the ⏰ is ticking.

They signed him up to a 3 year deal . We have , already , one of the best squads in our division . Don’t get all this talk .

Unless I missed something we’re not int PL.

Start looking forwards not backwards

...

START LOOKING FORWARDS NOT BACKWARDS.

Shame it wasn’t this season. Move on, stop looking backwards➡️

You keep saying this B56, but people are entitled to look any way they like, or any way that works for them.

Saying "I like to look forwards, not backwards", or "I think the club should look forwards, not backwards" is fine - that's your opinion and it's fair enough. But dictating to people, outright telling them what to do: "look the way I want you to look, not the way you want to look", isn't.

I can't speak for anyone else on here, but for me, looking backwards brings me pleasure. I'm capable of looking forwards, too; but it's up to me to choose which way I look. Everyone is entitled to choose their own way of looking at things.

But no evidence they are even thinking about getting shut .

You’ll be using words like Paradigms next .

What bothers me is the lack of Football experience on the present board with the exception of Pejman Nozad who has very limited football involvement. Under the Prince we had the Wilder/Bettis show and presently we still have it. Did the Prince spin it to the new owners that good old Steve Bettis knows the ropes and will quide you. They have put him on the board along with CW's contract extension. Sincerely hope not.
