Precisely. Some won't take any notice of this but KM and HRH have entered into a contract. The Prince's obligation is to invest in the first team and associated infrastructure, not the pitch.

I wonder if some of you spend your own money as profligately as you want others to?

Yer think he could send some sand over though

There has to be some sort of trade off though surely. The prince isn't going to be splashing his cash on a team of superstars to come and watch them play in a swamp every week.

Wouldn't you class a pitch with a decent playing surface as associated first team infrastructure?

Surely as an advocate of a slick pass and move style of football, you can see the necessity for investment in the pitch, which has been poor for the last five years. It's been laid more times than Kerry Katona FFS !

If I lived in rented accom and the floor was riddled with woodworm I'd be making sure the Landlord made the place safe and fit for purpose.

Kind of but not really, if its pissing it down, or inbetween games, get a massive sheet of tarp or something raised above the pitch, leave it there with lights under it till gameday, then take it down, perfect pitch(ish)

They use the lights already, seen some of the post match/ midweek interviews which they do at pitch side and you can see the lights in the back ground.

On the subject of waterlogged pitches generally - I've flown into Manchester on a regular basis over the last few years but when I came back on Sunday I've never seen so much standing water around on the fields as that. Not sure exactly how much rainfall there has been but I'd guess it's been much higher than normal.

As people have said, 800k is a lot of money and seeing as though our pitch was voted the second best in the division out to December you'd think it wasn't doing too badly. But if this feb is anything to go by then we could have to get used to having a water logged pitch unless we spend the money.

We've had to rearrange games for cup replays and cup fixtures more than waterlogged pitches so perhaps a better solution would be for the Football league to keep FA cup weekends completely free for the entire league in jan/ feb ands it the extra games into better months of the year...

It's always amazed me that February is the worst month for weather and yet we play the most games in this month!

Here's a scientific experiment for you "just cover the pitch up" lot.

Get a massive tarpaulin and put it on your lawn. Then see how it looks in a week's time.

Like somebody's put a massive tarpaulin over my lawn.....

Could we borrow that big bouncy castle thing from Middlewood? Then you'll still get that coveted photosynthesis you deem so important, Rainman. :P

I'm sure the grass thinks it's a bit important too.

Some people are going off like we've got a carpet that's got wet, instead of a bit expansive of living thing which is a bit more complicated than that.

It said on the O/S yesterday that

Sheffield United has been in contact with the Football League today, who advise that we should review the situation very early on Wednesday morning, at which time a pitch inspection will be organised, should one deem to be required.

I think, "very early on Wednesday morning" has passed has it not? Still no news either way?

You and your "science".

Couldnt they get a transparent Tarp and then the grass could still grow if they had it a foot or so off the ground so it could get airflow?

Pitch inspection at 1pm according to SUFC tweets

exactly as Chris Wood posted seconds ago!

Refresh, refresh, refresh! :)

Bit of a late call as it will be difficult for some Brentford fans - just about OK for us Leeds Loiners! ;)
For he knows who! ;)

And someone's killed your grass underneath.
Yeah, my original reply was supposed to have a smiley at the end. Same effect is achieved by leaving any object on the grass for a week or so. Pale dying grass underneath. On the carpet front, how many years before synthetic turf becomes the lower league standard?

Maybe a transparent tarp with built-in lenses to intensify the sunlight so we could grow super-grass. And those hover things from the bottom of hoverboards so it can let air in underneath.

OK, so you have your transparant tarp, a foot off the ground. And it starts to rain. Where does the rain go?

I imagne the middle of your tarp, would end up being on the ground...

You can have a draw string running through the middle which raises the middle and the rain runs off to the side where it is funneled into a drain somewhere. Its not that hard really.

Attached to what? would have to be a bloody big string. Just look at what they have/had to do at wimbledon, and then consider the engineering needs to cover an area 10 times (if not more) bigger...

Well you could either have 10 of those or just attach one side of one big sheet to the roof of John St stand via a few pullies and just lift up one side of it rather than the center. Its only raising a big plastic sheet it really cant be that hard engineering wise
