Warnock on Talksport

I once asked him at a shareholders meeting why regardless of the score did he make so many last minute substitutes and it was usually the same players
Once saw him desperate to get a player on in the last minute but the ball never went out of play. The referee blew the full time whistle and he had a paddy and stormed down the tunnel.
Blade my ass!

It's been widely mentioned by numerous players that Warnock would get a share of the players appearance money. It works both ways that. Players agreed to it.

Agree…..Warnocks style wasn’t exactly cultured but was exciting….in fact had similarities to Bassetts style.
Not exactly great football, for anyone young quite similar to Millwall or Luton (when they were promoted) in the Championship
but quite entertaining because there was plenty of action in the box.

We swapped over to Robson who initially played a controlling Swansea/ Norwich….slow keep possession style.
It was a massive culture shock because altho we were controlling games there was hardly any goal action at either end.

Robson eventually started playing more long ball and the team became stuck in between styles…and we struggled.

In comes Blackwell and he instantly reverts back to Warnock…..fast tempo…gerrit int box style.
And we instantly started climbing the table and made the play-offs.

The problem with the long ball style is when it works….its an effective style to win matches
But when passes start going astray and a team loses confidence….then the Blackwell style looks horrendous league 1 standard.

Style of play is an interesting one because when Swansea came to the Lane they gave us a footballing lesson in keep possession pass and move football.
I was so impressed, they played a bit like Pep’s Man City, then I realised they were so busy passing it around the centre circle they weren’t creating any chances.
The weird thing is they didn’t even seem bothered about creating chances. I don’t know how Swansea fans could have accepted that display.
Football is about trying to score and winning games, not tippy tippy sideways football.
Worst football I ever saw us play was under David Weir, whose philosophy appeared to be built on passing it sideways on the edge of our own box for as long as humanly possible. Occasionally players would find themselves in a promising forward position, realise this wasn't in the gameplan and pass it back to the keeper so we could pass it sideways along the edge of our own box again. Maddening stuff and he only won one game with it but the pundits loved it because it was "possession football"

Great players already have all the determination and motivation in the world. You cant become great without it, even if you have all the talent. They also have all the skill and tactical know how as well.

Guardiola doesn't have to motivate them, they are naturally motivated to win.

Average players can become semi decent with Warnock, Wilder or Bassett managing them but Guardiola wouldn't be able to get anything out of these type of players and Warnock, Bassett, and Wilder couldn't manage top players either.

The problem we have is where do we start if we want change, we tried to change with Jokanovic but average players then become less than average without some Sheffield twat on the sidelines screaming blue murder at them.

Felt really sorry for Weir….he had this theoretical vision of playing “proper football”.
We played the Swansea way and we looked good regards controlled possession…..but we didn’t create any chances
And even worse because the defenders were told to play out from the back….they’d eventually make the odd mistake so we conceded stupid goals.

In early interviews Weir said he had a football philosophy and was sticking to his guns.
Again we’d play quite well (in a Swansea kind of way) but we kept losing and losing….it was sad to watch.
Gradually Weir was almost in tears during his post match interviews and starting looking seriously ill.
He needed putting out of his misery….for the benefit of his own health.

Yeah, I don't know if there was anything going on in his life off the pitch to exacerbate things but that final interview of his was painful to watch, he looked and sounded like a man at rock bottom. Seemed a decent enough guy but spectacularly out of his depth, I'm not surprised he went back to being an assistant manager - and a successful one at that.

What is wrong with him?…….kept referring to us “Sheffield”, does he do it deliberately?
Notice how since he left us….he always seems to be subtlety bitter about us (his boyhood club)….and he praises other clubs more.

Spent 2 minutes raving about how much he likes and rates Farke…..not one mention of Chris Wilder.
Went on about Leeds being a massive club who should be in the PL but will find it tough if they go up.
Said Sheffield have loads of top players for the Championship but doesn’t think many of them of PL standard so it would be really tough next season.
However he did rave in about Michael Cooper, saying he knows him very well due to his links at Plymouth and he says he’ll go to the top.
He quoted Brian Clough, saying a good goalie wins you 10 to 12 extra points per season, said it’s such an important position.

He never gave Sunderland a chance of promotion due them being too young and inexperienced, he always classed it as a 3 horse race.
Joked if Burnley score a goal then the fans may as well go home because Burnley have won.

Regards tonight’s match he said people are so passionate about football in these parts…..said it’s incredible
He actually said the stadium will be full and rocking 1 hour before kick-off…..what is he on about?….it’s Sheffield not Istanbul.
Ally McCoist said he’s looking forward to sampling the atmosphere.
Pretty sure he’s got beef with us from when he left.

He’s deffo got Beef with Wilder about the Boro job.

Thin skinned and bitter

Warnock got tapped up by Boro when Woodgate was still making a mess of it so for him to try and cry about tapping up is laughable. It’s routine in football. Victim mentality.

How come?
He wanted the job twice, only didn't take it because Mandaric in the end decided that it wouldn't work because of his united connections. So it's not literally his biggest regret but he definitely wanted to manage them, he's on record as saying he was Interested.

It didn't help that he built the team around Kevin Mcdonald, who then messed about with his contract, forced us to offer him one with a ridiculously low release clause to simply get him to play, only for McDonald to go to Wolves a couple of weeks later. I remember I was buzzing after the Notts County game, I thought we looked great.

Sheffield United
Leeds United

He couldn't exactly refer to us as United, could he?

Blades perhaps.

I don't think he did it to annoy people, more to make sure people knew who he was talking about.

Geez!

Even David Seaman referred to us as Sheff U this morning.

I've seen him out in Sheffield a couple of times over the years with his current ice skating wife but didn't realise she's a Blade as he said today.

Seaman is from Rotherham. His parents lived near my friend's house when my friend was living in Kimberworth

Warnock was good back then , apart from his shite tactics v Villa and Wigan in that season
Don’t really listen to the Goblin from Harry Potter much now as his time has passed
Thanks for the memories Uncle Col good luck on the farm
Sir Harry - Chris and -Colin in that order for me manager wise

January 2020 at the Emirates David Seaman was at above the Blades fans (1-1 draw Fleck). He was with his partner and she was wearing a Blades shirt.

Obviously knew Seaman's local upbringing but didn't realise Frankie was from Sheffield, never mind a Blade 👍
