First look at him and to me he looked very capable.

So my question is this:

Will he prove to be a vanity signing because Wilder couldn’t stomach accepting the season was done in January?

Or will he galvanise United like a Norwood did and see us go on a winning run that gives us a chance?

He would be daft to leave the wages he's on to come here, yes he would play football every week if he is fit, but who walks away from millions of pounds?

Best we could hope for is a year long loan, but, any team going up should consider Bamford and Phillips, they are looking to put themselves in the shop window by playing in a half decent team, and showing thier quality..

Seles' killed the season in it's crib, and the players didn't want to play for him, sad but we got our hopes up, and some really poor results when we should have won have ended the season in my opinion.

We finish around 10th at best, Phillips should start next to Peck, the Arblaster we knew has not returned yet..

His class was immediately apparent, I thought. Arblaster was way off the pace (and this isn’t a pile on, just a statement of fact), and he and a peck just don’t seem to complement one another. Phillips has played and is trained at a level so far above ours, of course he is going to be better. Not being good enough to play for Guardiola does not mean you aren’t very good, but it does mean you learn how to play!

If hes fit enough then he has to be starting.

Another defeat (despite playing well and entertaining football) means that the PO window gets even smaller and we simply have to put the foot down now and go on a winning run. Its now or never and a fit Phillips pulling the strings for us im the middle would help us immeasurably.

Ollie needs drip feeding into the team tjis season after 13 months out and it was unfair of us to expect amything else. He will be better for this season and then a full pre season, but hes off his pre injury standards still and probably will be for a while. We dont have that luxury to wait for him to play himself back into form again. Phillips has to be a regular starter now.

First part

I thought there were encouraging signs of the player that was England's player of the season.
Looked good in tight situations, obviously gets his foot in, and played some decent balls, including the assist for the assist to Bamford's goal.
If I was Wilder, and if Reidewald is still out, I'd be tempted to start Phillips and then replace him with Arblaster around 60-70 minutes as clearly he's going to struggle with the pace of the game for 90 minutes plus.

Pep will have seen how we nurtured James McAtee and Tommy Doyle.

We've a chance of him being here next season.
What?

Doyle and McAtee were 19/20 when they came here. City saw the value in them getting first team exposure at a decent level, similar to us sending Marsh and Oné out on loan. Phillips is 30. There is no chance that he makes it at City, their thinking is that this loan will put him in the shop window for a promoted side to take him next season.

He’ll do a job for us for the rest of the season & add some much needed experience in there along with Reidewald . Blaster has been dropped back in at the deep end & is still way off it .
Thing that disappointed me was Soumare wasn’t on the bench as we were crying out for someone with a bit of athleticism & a ball winner .
Re Philips he’s got 2 years left of his contract & astronomical wages there’s no way that’s becoming permanent deal .

I’d say Arblaster’s target has to be ready for next season to take over form Peck who in all possibility, may well be sold to a Brentford or someone of that nature.

If he builds that up with an early pre-season or 15 minute cameos or u21 matches then so be it.

He’s tried to help out. It’s arguably not helped him or us. We need to do the right thing now.

Phillips, Riedewald and Peck a primary options then Rothwell as next drop when free and Arblaster in odds and ends.

Back to a Phillips though. I’m very interested to see the impact he can have on the team. He’s a ringer at this level. We’ve all seen one player come and the team suddenly click. Remember Glynn Hodges? What did we do? Win about 8 from 9 in a sensational run of games. Maybe he can have that sort of impact? God knows we probably need it now!

Bindon, Hoever, Hjelde, Phillips, Ogbene.

No space for the 6th loan player.

He’s got to. Peck and Blaster doesn’t work.
I really don't know what's happened with these 2 at one point they both would look for the forward pass before anything else, for some reason they just seem to look for the comfortable one now .

After the first 15 mins they were running through our midfield as of they weren't there, recently the talk was Peck needs resting, then he's picked up the last few weeks, yesterday he looked like he needed resting, again. I know Phillips only did 25 mins ,but he did more than Oli and Peck did the time they were on, Jairo and Phillips have to start when both are fit imo. We were beaten by a better team yesterday and we didn't/ couldn't react to their better organisation and passing, but we move on

He came in and looked class from the first touch against very decent opposition.

A cameo, not really much to go on, but just like Bamford's first minutes for us, you can see the class. The speed of thought, self belief to deliver and the quality of the ball out to Hamer (who he's only played with in training, for a week, so fair play for understanding his game so quickly) all suggest we're in for a treat. Just stay fit. Just stay fit. Just stay fit....

The real top players are a couple of steps ahead of everyone else in terms of what they see and anticipate so its no secret that Bamford is scoring at 1 in 2 in the league and the midfield was infinitely better once Riedewald came in and hopefully Phillips too once he's got some minutes under his belt.

The free kick to Hamer and then Hamer's ball to Bamford shows the sort of thing that Phillips and our other more "marquee" players are capable of when we've got players with a brain singing off the same sheet.

No way does Matos play that ball to Barry then square it to Cannon to finish off.
