Yep, I was there. I was also at the piggery for the away game. :(

I've got quite a few press passes for away matches from around the early 90's. I'll have a look later to see if there's any interesting ones I can contribute.

I was at Hillsborough for the 1979 game (my only visit to that shithole, as I always point out when that game is mentioned).

I was also at the 1980 game. It was the first of only two occasions when I have sat in the JSS. The other was for the Cup quarter final against Blackburn in 1993, should anyone care :-)

I was there also and away:( as JB said.I'm sure i would not find any ticket stubbs , which is strange as my wife says i save everything useless:D

Can't remember if we had to have tickets or it was pay on the turnstyle? Almost everything was pay on the day back in those days.

Yes I was there for both these two games.

At the start, a season that promised so much. You can guest the rest. :(

Why you would want to keep the stub from Boxing Day I'll never understand.
I was there on the cantilever stand not on leppers Lane and was at the home fixture in the Easter following.

Shit days and shit memories :(

Saw us win a county cup match (Sabella played in that one) at the Sty but must have been later in 1980 or 81 and it was a hollow victory as it meant nowt.

That experience at the Sty on Boxing Day was to last a lifetime as we didn't play those piggy bastards for such a long time after, in the league. That's what made the Bobby Davison match all the more special. That and the double.
Great times, great memories :)

Wonder why the pig's tickets were red? Like you say though Ken, great night great memories.

This is from Luton Town, Boxing Day 1991 at the time they had their away fans ban.

I don't know how many Blades got into the ground but there were quite a few jumping to their feet, scattered around the ground when Deano scored the only goal of the game. Give yourself 10 bonus points if you were one of them. :)

I remember we had to set off in thick fog at some ungodly hour cos of the 11.30 ko. I was going to write a piece in Flashing Blade at the end of the season about the press hospitality at all the away grounds - food, hot drinks etc - and give them all marks. I never got around to it but if I had, Luton would have been top of the table by a country mile! Maybe it was because it was xmas but there was hot chicken wings and drumsticks, soup, fish - it was a bloody feast. Even Vinnie Jones came in after the game to snaffle some grub. Much better than the soggy lettuce sarnies that you got at Old Trafford and Highbury.

Ps. Sorry Sitters, didn't mean to hijack the thread. Why isn't this in the General Blades section anyway?

FA cup semi-final v Newcastle.

Not a particularly eventful game but I was sat behind John Sadler in the press box and actually made a contribution to his piece in the following Monday's Sun.

He wrote 'Sheffield fans (Bah!) were incensed by Shearer's habit of hitting the deck under heavy artillery. "He guz down on t'floo-er every time somebody guz near im" one of them yelled.'

That indeed twas I that shouted that, probably word for word n'all. :D

Was that the game where the Chezzie goalie had a nervous tick and the Blades were singing 'twitchy, twitchy give us a twitch...' and cheering every time he did?

I was there on Boxing Day with my Dad (god bless him). We didn't have tickets and just turned up. A copper asked us if we wanted to get in? Stupid bloody question! He said 'I can let one of you in at each end' and opened his palm. Don't know how much my dad gave him but do know I drew the short straw! Realised which end I was in very quickly. Watched the match from the very back of the Kop and left after the third goal. My dad was already back at the car having done the same. Not sure I've ever seen the last goal, even today when we lose and don't score I'm not bothered about watching highlights.

I was at that game too (along with my dad). I borrowed a membership card from a Luton fan who I used to work with! He lives in Chesterfield and his reason for supporting Luton was that his first game was Wendy v Luton. Wendy won 4-0, he felt sorry for Luton and then decided that they become his favourite team! Strange reason!

The Chesterfield keeper you were thinking about is Paul Gregory who played in our 3-1 defeat at Saltergate in December 1982. The keeper for Chesterfield in the 1980 match was probably John Turner

Does that mean i should start a different one for the other teams/other sports/music stubs ?

Yes of course you need to have another thread for your non Blades related stubs.

I think I was at that Chessie game as well at Saltergate - didn't we lose 2-0 or summat?
Can't ever remember seeing us win at Saltergate nor do I remember us putting in a performance that was more than 1% above absolute shite.

When I was a referee got to ref a final of one of the amateur league cups there , was a dump , seemed better doing the regional sundayt final at hillsborough park stadium , more atmosphere
