Played well yesterday for Burnley.

He isn’t their first choice partnership like he wouldn’t have been here. Tomorrow we will see if the decision to not have him costs us.

When I guess we are forced to rejig the defence.

Simple rejig hopefully with Gilchrist at CH and Seriki starts at RB. Not ideal given form or our 2CBs so far but a decent pair to cover

Signed a contract to the end of this season. I can see him somewhere mid-lower championship next season or at a big club stuck in L1.

Hope he’s happy, but honestly I was pleased to see him be a bit average last night given we play them soon. UTB
Unlikely to play again in the first team. He was only signed, really, because Ekdal, Worrall, and Beyer were all injured, and he is 6th on the depth chart. Ekdal and Worrall were both back on the bench last night (though neither came on when Egan went off, strangely.)

Not for a promotion side it’s not.

But we have no choice to go with what we have. Other teams have championship ready players on the bench to cover. We are back to Seriki starting which I’m all for it as I think he will become a very good player and we are developing our own. But it’s far from ideal or comparable to the squads of Burnley / Leeds / Boro / WBA etc.

The makeshift back 4 in the 2nd half against Sunderland, did a better job than the defence in the 1st half. Souttar was off his game clearly, but this is probably more reason to give him a rest.

We'll see, but I think Gilchrist might be better suited to CB anyway, and Seriki is a beast who no team have been able to contain, so far....

Last game they played the only cover WBA had on the bench for defenders were an 18 yesr old and some eyetie who has only played 4 games in the UK Hardly championship ready replacements.

Our defensive record is exemplary. Renewing a badly injured, ageing and highly paid Egan would have been madness.

I wish him nothing but the best, but the fact we’re going into a game with our second choice defence doesn’t make me think for a minute that we made a bad call.

We played against Sunderland for 45 mins with that defence, scored more than them, played better than them and won.

That’s utter shit and best of it you know it is. We’ve just come down from a league higher up, of course we have championship ready players ffs.

The rebuild was not completed so not surprising we are a bit thin in certain positions.

Well I for one hope you are correct. We will see in 8 hours time. 🤞

Let’s see how today pans out. I hope you are correct. But a back 4 of

Burrows
Robbo
Gilchrist
Femi

Is far away from a promotion winning back 4 and ‘you know it is’.

But today I hope I am incorrect. Please rub it in my face at 5pm today.

But that’s what I’m saying. Egan would have been second choice for us too.

Today we would be playing with Robbo and Egan with Gilchrist in the preferred right back role.

If Burnley can afford for him to be second sting due to parachute payments. Surely we could have as well. Shows he wasn’t asking for the world financially.

Robbo + Gilchrist > Robbo + Egan in late 2024. Egan like Norwood, Sharp etc. can’t produce at 2019 levels anymore so I’m not sure he would be the example I would use to illustrate relative bench strengths.

My point was more about them being ok for ‘cover’. That back 4, imo, wouldn’t win us the league, but they’d make sure we don’t drop away for the few times we need them to cover for absence. They did that on Friday with a win. If we got 0 points today, they’d have still got us 1/2 the points available while providing cover, which is ok, perhaps? Get a draw and they got promotion PPG

However I won’t be happy unless we win. Regardless of our back 4 imperfections, I actually don’t rate WBA that much

Sorry, thread is about Egan 🤣👍🏻

We had to get rid of some injury hit players. Egan finally starting a game before being subbed off doesn't change that.

Like I thought defensively we were poor. Conceded a set play as expected.

Having to score 3 away from home is a tough ask.

Fantastic result for us.

I'm an old sentimentalist and I really love it when a much loved player comes back to the Lane and us true fans show our appreciation, even though they are playing for a rival club. Shows we have real class.

Egan of course now holds the club record of most international caps with 34, while playing for the Blades and that will probably stand for quite some time.

Yeh with you on this one to , he was a good servant to us & played a big part in our success in the last 5 years , he’ll def get a big round of applause from myself & my mates , nice bloke to away from the pitch ⚔️

Not that I take too much notice, but Egan seemed to come on late more than Worrall. May well be wrong.

Don't know how long Hull are giving him but if it's longer than the end of the season and a greater chance of game time, it's a no brainer for him.

Not gonna lie, I would still take Egan back right now, even if it was a 6 month loan. His experience and centre back cover would be so useful.
If we were considering going to 3 at the back then maybe there's a slimcase to get Egan back but he's never been comfortable in a 2 and he's barely played for 18 months. No thanks.

Sorry, I should have added that if we are considering returning to a back 3 we should hand in our share as a professional football outfit. That formation is done.

And Hull City’s next away game is against ( you’ve guessed it…) Burnley.
