Out of contract

Keep this conversation/debate until February. Might be worth a half term report for all 3 now, so they know where they stand and what’s expected of them now?

Give Brewster another five years.

At the start of the 2029-30 season people will still be saying he, "looks lively" and he's, "showing glimpses".
The people in charge will weigh up whether it's more cost effective to keep him on reduced terms and try and extract some value for him in terms of a transfer fee or not renew his contract

Whether people on here think he is trying hard or showing glimpses will be entirely irrelevant

I think a lot of this will depend on two things - the wages demanded by the player, and the division we're likely to be in. I think if a promotion push tails off then offering JLT a new deal is fine, but other than that, glttls

Coulibally should be shipped off to somewhere on loan in January and that should be that. Is he injured? I've not noticed him playing for the development team, which you would have thought he would be if he had a legitimate chance of playing.
Robbo: See how this season goes. If he plays a part in 10-15 games and does ok then fine. As long as we're in the Championship, he's a good squad player. We have a young squad now, so experience is invaluable. Half our back 4 are on loan and we don't want to have to replace RB, CB, CB, CB in summer.
Brewster: Unless a miracle happens this season then let him go. Just not worked and he doesn't offer enough, even if fit.

After his showing today you'd have to say that Robinson deserves a new contract, I thought he came in and played very well for his first game in a while, plus I think last season he was probably the only player who came out of the season with any semblance of credit

Depends on division and other options, but given we have two CBs contracted at the club and he's one of them, would be stupid to not offer him a deal.

Yeah can’t argue with that..

If we don’t go up I would keep Robbo as we will be without Anel and Souttar after this season.

Just no point at this stage , none of these 3 are in any position to make demands for a new contract until the end of the season when we'll know whether we've gone up or not.
Shame we don't seem to have a tall CB coming through the Academy who is the same quality as the rest of the current crop.

Its been a very long time since we have had a decent centre back come through the academy apart from Maguire.

There was that Polish chap who went to Southend whose name I forget and Kyron Gordon but other than that slim pickings

I love Robbo for his dedication but he's 32 now + not a starter for us.
If we don't go up (thereby losing Anel & Souttar) we face a tricky task recruiting two big strong younger CBs.
It's probably our most exposed position and I'm surprised we've not tried to find a young CB who's on a good trajectory.

The Greek lad is highly related but still only 17 I think

This is one of the reasons why I’d like to see us get a centre back in January. Not only we cover, as we don’t really have many options, but also to start bedding someone in now, rather than trying to do 2/3 at once in the summer.

Brewster and Coulibaly need listing in January, if we can get anything for either would be a bonus

Hard to believe just 6 months away before the crippling weight of brewsters wage will be off our shoulders.

Just the 2 out of contract and likely to stay..

Robinson
Brewster

Won't be getting rid of many in the summer then 😬

Saw a few articles yesterday stating Robinsons is set to trigger a contract extension.
Not sure this would have been Wilder’s plan as he has tried to replace Robbo for about 3 windows now.

But if true with contract extension triggered we don’t have much option.

We will need to replace him in the summer at the 4th attempt by Wilder.

Not sure how long we persevere with Robbo when you have holding in there obviously a cut above.

Wilder has shown he can be ruthless. Would he consider dropping Robbo for the next 9 games including the derby?

Can't see him dropping robbo, even though he can see he's a bombscare!

We have 2 central defenders signed with us and Robinson has shown he is a very capable defender on many occasions for us, I’m happy knowing he’ll be with us for 1 more year, especially if we don’t go up.

Brewster is currently having his best spell for us in his whole time (probably not a coincidence his contract runs out soon). He knows his only opportunity to play in the prem again is realistically next season with us, so his performances at the moment should be off the scale. I wouldn’t offer him a new deal though, unless he agrees to a 70-80% cut, but would like to see him do well elsewhere, as I don’t think his effort levels have ever been in doubt. Hopefully he scores on Sunday and he’ll go from being the worst ever signing to the best!

We were talking about Brewster on the Kop and agreed he again played decent when he came on against Bristol City.
Recently he’s actually looked average Championship level, good attitude and is quite versatile.
We all agreed he’s not really a striker/ goal scorer but his general all round ability is good.

A few around me agreed…in the PL he’s not good to start but should be good enough to be a sub….and he’s able to play several positions.

A few month back we all said there’s no way we should offer him a contract extension.
But now we’re open to keeping him as long as we offer relatively modest wages, probably slightly below average Championship level with bonuses.
Don’t think he’ll start any games in the PL and shouldn’t start many for an upper Champiomship team either but he’ll be a good squad player.
