The derby

From lots of the posts about hating the stress of derbies , it's surprising that the match sold out almost immediately - I can understand regular Blades feeling it's their solemn duty to put themselves through the fear & misery , but why should the occasionals ?

I'm going to wait to give my predictions until Roy's column as we know they will give a fair assessment of their team. The level headed comments should give us a window in how a sane minded football fan thinks......
Bollocks
7 - 0 Blades. Someone is getting a stuffing this season, might as well be our "sus scrofa domestics" pals
Agree with the home win, but I say 6-0. Hat tricks for Moore and O’Hare. Owls will throw the kitchen sink at it, and Cooper will get to show how great a shot stopper he is.

I really don't see where this tag about being great one minute and woeful the next.....they are barely average.

West Brom apart their other victories, (Plymouth, Portsmouth & Coventry) have come against teams in and around them.

They have played 5 of the current top 6, losing 4 of them scoring 5 whilst conceding 16. They also lost 3-0 away to Millwall who had not won a game at that point and drew with Bristol City, QPR and Swansea.

If any other team was coming to BDTBL with that record we would be expecting a comfortable victory. As others have said, play the game, not the occasion and we win comfortably, let them worry about us, we play our normal game.
Excellent post. I just hope CW prepares them this way. I fear he’ll be asking for a rabid first 20 to “get the crowd going” and that could backfire badly.

Maybe the occasionals don’t feel it quite as intensely?

As a kid it was proper stomach churning, into 20s it'd be mandatory John Smiths breakfast to prep. Can't say I enjoyed the 90s mins. Now, I'm genuinely just looking at forward to the match and occasion (and I'm surrounded more by owls mates/fam now than ever before). Bring it on.

...Few late morning beers might still be sneaked.

Agree, especially as there will be absolutely no need to get the crowd going either. Foot on the ball, calm heads, put them under some pressure first 20.

I've copied ucandomagic and drawn up how they've faired so far against the current league table. West Brom result aside, they're nothing to write home about.

I suspect it's the regulars that feel the stress much more.

Always apprehensive about these games as form tends to go out of the window, but I still look forward to them as it's our biggest game of the season.

There hasn't been a 2-1 in this fixture at Bramall Lane since February 1938.

Astonishing.
