Moan? Nope-I saw Longhorn
A Chippy Northern Ape
TC ‘testimonial’Rumour has it that the EFL are looking at deducting us 2 points for that error.
(I think the Housemartins played at the Lane in October 1986)
Oops (far) too slow

I’m with you. These were the bands that properly got me into music. First heard Arctic Monkeys when I was 15/16 and for the next few years indie music was all I listened to and I spent the two years at college / sixth form going to gigs most weeks. That said, I never really liked Reverend and the Makers and nor did any of my mates, even while we lapped up other Sheffield artists to varying degrees like Milburn, Little Man Tate, Bromheads Jacket and the rest. I suppose Reverend was a little “different” but never did it for me particularly. A good frontman though, IMO.I’ve massaged the term there for comic effect but they really were dreadful. They had similarities with a lot of bands around at the time and managed to ride the 00s indie wave but we’re essentially a destitute man’s Hard Fi. I can’t stand the self styled “Mr Sheffield” Reverend either. An embarrassment of a man and that’s not purely down to his porcine leanings.
Musically it was a great time for bands and gig going and as you allude to there was more musical diversity though than that “scene” was credited with. I was 19/20 as it was all kicking off and had a great time. The musical landscape is so much different these days.
There was a notable drop off in quality though post Arctic Monkeys just through the sheer number of bands all trying to copy the formula.
Well we know how those go.Play off finals weekend!!
I always liked Hard Fi , I went to Leeds to see them last year and I thought they were wank liveI’m with you. These were the bands that properly got me into music. Big lol now seeing the support acts for Paul Heaton!
Aye…….The Undertones at Leadmill on Saturday which is not a bad way to spend an International Break evening.
Can’t remember if I saw Hard Fi. As they were sort of early in that indie period and dressed a bit laddy, they always felt like they belonged in the decade before. A few semi-catchy tunes but was never particularly fond of them. Not claiming I only liked amazing/cool music mind - bands I was seeing all the time were the likes of the Metros, Fratellis, Rumble Strips, Larrikin Love, Milburn, The Holloways etc etc. All bands that hold special memories but I’d hardly ever listen to now!I always liked Hard Fi , I went to Leeds to see them last year and I thought they were wank live
Metros didn't they morph into FAT WHITE FAMILY?Can’t remember if I saw Hard Fi. AyeTC's testimonial, along with Black Lace and possibly one other band, who I can't remember.
Yeah the singer was one of two frontmen in Fat White Family. A few members of the Metros joined at various points but it seemed a bit of a loose/chaotic band so members flitted in and out. The lead singer (Saul) was key in the group though until he had a big fallout with the other front man iirc. If you look up the lead singer these days, you can see he’s lost his way a bit - drugs have savaged him. His Instagram is a bit of a state!Metros didn't they morph into FAT WHITE FAMILY?
I like all them you mentioned
Fratellis first album being a highlight
Literally from just up the road from me. Saw them in London somewhere can't remember where now. David Guest was dancing away in the balcony that night which didn't seem like an obvious mix!I always liked Hard Fi , I went to Leeds to see them last year and I thought they were wank live
I've seen lots of bands, the hives at y not festival were brilliant. Shed 7 twice and were equally as good. Both bands in my top 10 liveWell they are probably not as good as a lot of bands ......that wasn't my point .
I've seen the Hives and they were banging
I’ve not followed his recent stuff, I liked the beautiful south. Is he likely to sell out?Anyone who knows me knows I follow Paul heaton around and I'm always in hull . Through a music producer from Belfast I've sorted myself out for this and it's a dream come true .
Could possibly help a few out ticket wise and remember heatons promise no tickets for over £35 pound .
They all sell out at some point Swiss. Look at Roxy Music. Shite Music from Manifesto onwards. Same with Queen after News of the World.I’ve not followed his recent stuff, I liked the beautiful south. Is he likely to sell out?
