Paul Heaton - Concert at the Lane

Bar on the pitch at bottom of Kop was fast moving. Took me maybe 15 minutes. I got 5 beers and 3 gin and tonics, my only visit to the bar. Carrying them back to the South Stand wasn't easy.

South Stand councourse is not fit for purpose when the stand is full. Kop bars and toilet faciities are actually a bit better than SS
Issue on the SS is that 1/3 of the concourse in the middle is very narrow (presumably due to the executive suites our whatever). So straight away it pushes anyone in that middle section outwards.

There were clear instructions in the email I received. Download the tickets beforehand into the wallet on your phone.
This can be accessed without Internet access then.
I had tickets for 3 people in my wallet. All 3 in in about 20 seconds
It's not fecking rocket science is it?
It might not be rocket science to you, but when downloading to your wallet do you have to remove the Werthers first, and would the magnetic strip on my bus pass affect anything? Asking for a friend.

I had a suspicion there'd be bars somewhere that were better. As a group of four we'd have spent a few hundred quid extra (on low grade cheap and crap offerings), so they really do miss out by not giving a better service.

So basing a judgement on a short supporting set where the lead singer was struggling a bit due to illness?

Lightning Seeds are absolute gash tbh. That judgement has been made after many years of having their banal drivel shoved in my ears. Not to forget their plagiaristic rip-off of a New Order guitar bit. Glad I missed them and got myself nicely settled in for the excellent Shed Seven.
It was a Judgement of what I saw and heard. No idea the lead singer had an illness.
First impression was wtf is Michael Brown and One of the Gallaghers doing on stage 😄

Been going to gigs for 40 years , folk who normally go to these type of events are not your regular small venue gig goers ...
I was saw coldplay @ Bolton Wanderers

You been living under a Rock ? Stick to football pal .
Leave music to the grown ups .
Shit seven how fucking old are ya
Over 50 and still couldn't name any tune that they sang lastnight tbh.
Still non the wiser as to who they was/are.

Yeah that's the bar we used. Sounds like it must have been one of the best. Got served very quickly each time.

The mini fish and chips in the pavilion were top notch. As were the hotdogs . Lovely comfy seats in the directors box. Expensive but would do again. Free spice and popcorn as well

I tried to get on to the pitch from the SS because the bar was virtually empty at one point but the steward wouldn’t let me on. He asked to see my ticket and went ‘you’ve got a seat’ I said ‘I know, but I want to go over there and get a beer’ and he was all ‘oh no, you can’t do that’

Was there a hefty difference in ticket prices to be on the pitch ?
There was plenty of them coming up into the stands all around the ground causing issues on the steps with overcrowding.

39 years ago, I saw PH with Stan, Norman & Hugh, playing on a temporary stage that had been built part way up the John Street terrace, with my old man, (who albeit passed away 4 years ago a week on Friday) but gave me my love for music and Dem Blades, and because he was a bit of an old radical, loved the Housemartins, what they stood for, and the content of their songs.

Yesterday night, I got my chance to go with my nephew to see him again, who bless him, had got me the ticket along as a Christmas present. What's more, yesterday corresponded with what would have been the auld fella's 82nd birthday.

To someone who played his Hull 0 London 4 tape until it wore out, it was like being transported back, and this old man felt young again. He also sung his bloody heart out along the next generation of the family, and what's more, because of the day, it meant so much.

Music has that effect sometimes.. and after the lowest lows of Saturday, this made up for so much...

PS My claim to fame is PH also fell on top of me in a heap of others when Dane Whitehouse scored the equaliser in the cup v Arsenal in 1995. :D

It's usually down to concerns about overcrowding in the standing area. That's why they only let people on who've bought standing tickets

Rather than me explain it, here you go
If I've read Wiki correctly they had a former snooker world champion Joe Johnson as a band member and wrote the theme tune to Henry Kelly's " Going for Gold " 😉
Seriously though I had never heard any of their music until the gig at the Lane yesterday 🙂

I can’t remember, mainly because I’d wanted standing at first but went on three of the sales sites early on in proceedings a nd they only had SS or John St as options.

Where we were (gangway A) they were putting bands on people's wrists then letting them go on the pitch. The bands allowed us to go on the Kop too.

Was a great gig but rubbish getting drinks. We were standing and went to get drink couple songs before end of Shed Seven set. Went up gangway G. Queue to bar wasn’t as big as half time on a match day but took 45 mins to get served! Bloke in front of us started kicking off at bar staff as no lager.
