Unnecessary.. Why bring Gus on & risk a yellow ?Just want to ask if anyone else noticed how good our subs bench was today.
Not worried about any of them coming on.
It's a long time since i thought that.
Also again Subs used well
Well done CWAK

It’s always going to look better when it has 2 of our best first teamers on it.fair point
but i was just compareing this bench with last year
Thought it was obvious? They were getting a little more control of the game. So we gave them something to think about as the game got stretched. An attacking midfielder can easily survive without a card.Unnecessary.. Why bring Gus on & risk a yellow ?
I don’t think that it was with regards to the Leeds game, which is 12 days away. Hopefully any player can be recharged in time for thatDefinitely can say this with the comfort of having won, but this week has been a good use of the squad.
He’s managed to lighten the workload on Moore and give Campbell some game time as well as rotation across the squad to keep them fresh and available for Leeds.
Well done CW/AK
Just yesterday? It’s been building since the first game.Just want to ask if anyone else noticed how good our subs bench was today.

I’m sure he knows he’s number one. Important to make sure the backups are game ready if needed. Also about injury management too so I think they know it’s a squad game.Burrows who i thought was the best player in the last game , was really unlucky , not to get on , hope they can keep him happy
spot on he is using the squad to lighten the load and also to inject fresh legs when others are starting to flag avoiding injuries .Just what Prem teams did to us. Also giving game time to others ,can not fault it reallyDefinitely can say this with the comfort of having won, but this week has been a good use of the squad.

He’s pushing, Wilder said that Hamer was rested but also protected from a booking by being on the pitch for much less timeWonder if Brewster is now in the frame to start v Leeds.
It’s been entirely planned
I’ve focussed on it this season as it was something that had to change and I think it was IdLiketoRogerMoore and myself discussing this after a couple of games because it seemed to me that we had a balanced squad, but games like Barnsley skewed that view a little. I’d be interested in what IdLiketoRogerMoore also thinks now.This. It’s daft how many people say they can’t believe Wilder’s dropped so and so, and why is he taking so and so off….
It’s clearly a planned approach to minimise injury and keep energy on the pitch.
We might well drop points doing it, but over a longer period the risks are much bigger in not doing so.
There will have been a lot of focus on soft tissue injuries and recovery times from injuries.I think so far (and things could quickly change) Wilder has been so much better than Hecky was at rotation & changing players when they’re tiring. This has prevented injuries.
RND snapped his hamstring the first time because we’d simply overplayed him. We’ve now gone nearly 3 months without a muscle injury, who would have thought that this time last season?
I like how he’s used the lads returning from injury too, dropped them in for 5-10 mins and gradually improving their game time. He took Brewster off yesterday at the perfect time & gradually increased RND’s game time too. Smart management so far. If he can get Tom Davies fit then he’s a miracle worker
It's the modern way. We first saw it at Tottenham last year when they brought on c£100m of talent after an hour. Man City have mastered the art of strategic rotation and why they're untouchable. 5 subs considerably favours the stronger sides, big from a finishing games perspective but also avoiding injuries. We're lucky that we can carry players like RND, McCallum, Shackleton, Brewster, Brooks and Campbell on the bench. They'd walk into the starting XI of 90% of Championship sides.I’ve focussed on it this season as it was something that had to change and I think it was IdLiketoRogerMoore and myself discussing this after a couple of games because it seemed to me that we had a balanced squad, but games like Barnsley skewed that view a little. Wilder has mentioned it in his post/ pre match pressers that so and so player was planned to have an hour so it’s definitely planned.
As for dropping points, possibly, but I think the approach is that we no longer look game to game we look in blocks of games. This 3 game block has been managed very well, it’s meant that we arrived at 60 mins yesterday with a very fresh squad.

I'd actually be interested to know if there's a correlation at how many goals are scored late Vrs substitutions? Others seem to be shipping late goals, but we seem to be avoiding this...
We only conceded lte on v qpr because of keystone cops defending from jlt and Davies goalkeepingWe shipped two late on v QPR but they seem a very eratic side at the moment at both ends, i think we probably need to see it later in the season, but i also get the feeling that our starting line up, which ever we go with is peaking currently in terms of fitness for 60 mins, we're not fading in games because players aren't allowed to stay on long enough to fade out. When that happens it generally means that 1-2 players around him will have to pick up the slack.
The distinct difference to last season, as i mentioned earlier is that we're practively changing players now, its a tweak that Wilder has done now that players on the bench are up to speed, fitness wise. Early games it was 70 mins before changes, now its 55-65ish with generally 3 being made on the hour or as close to it as we can. Yesterday was slightly later as theres no game for a couple of weeks
Last season even under Wilder those changes were made later, usually after conceding again because we didn't have the strength to come in off the bench.
To bring in Brooks and Hamer (66 mins) then RND, Shackleton, Campbell (71-75), later on shows the depth we have. If we had a game midweek we'd have no doubt made some changes slightly earlier

I think the problem he (and hecky) had last year was that we had a first 11, barely and that was it. So we couldn't do much from the bench even if we wanted to.Wilder alluded to the poor conditioning of the players when he first returned. He also said during last season there wasn't too much he could do about it mid season last year. It needed a proper pre-season with the players.
That said most of that squad are gone.![]()
We seem to be scoring early in a lot of these games as well, within the first 15 minutes which can mess up the structure/game plan of a lot of these teams.I'd actually be interested to know if there's a correlation at how many goals are scored late Vrs substitutions? The Leeds comment was more the availability I.e. he managed to keep Hamer’s minutes down to stop him getting booked.I don’t think that it was with regards to the Leeds game, which is 12 days away. Hopefully any player can be recharged in time for that
Been training with the 1st team in last 2 weeksLooked very good but we have only got Tom Davies I think out injured at the moment.
