It’s often a mess at away games though. I’d suggest most away fans have never sang the line “you fill up my senses”, perhaps everAway fans dont need it.
The John Denver original Annie's Song was our first dance song at our wedding. We didnt really have a "song" so I just picked it for the words, none of the guests realised the double nature of the song apart from one of my mates who is a Wednesday fan who wasnt too happy. It were great.
yes. strangely its now through a shut bedroom door.Do you now sing it to her every night ?
First time I heard it I thought it was Magners....Is it Magnet or Maggots does it matter they both sound oreyt over the years I’ve always sang Magnet![]()
While we're at it, why does the "as you fucking well should do" have to come in at the end of swinging a pig? It stops the song dead. I'm sure that didn't used to be a thing.Yeah, we could just go by the refs whistle. But year by year we seem to be ballsing the "ohhhh" part up, so I don't trust us.
We used to make a mess of "oh lord Micheal Brown" we can't keep "when the Blades go marching in" slow, and "take my hand" goes around in circles with people jumping to the UNITED part at different times.
I find it a little embarrasing. No one drinks Magnet (not even a Sheffield beer), smokes Woodbines or takes snuff. Very few even eat chip butties.Along with our badge, the Lane and a couole of historical firsts the GCB song should be up there with the few we should be genuinely proud of

If it was just another song that we sing I wouldn't mind. But why has it somehow become our sacred "anthem" that must be sung before every game starts?
I would have thought an atmosphere at a game is still relevant... Don't you???Many things have changed in 40 years, some for the better and some not. Perhaps you are wishing to create good memories from the past, which are no longer relevant to many who now attend.
I do. I love to hear the ground rocking, but realise that those now attending are significantly different in overall makeup than when I first went last century !I would have thought an atmosphere at a game is still relevant... Don't you???
There's a lot to unpack there..I find it a little embarrasing. No one drinks Magnet (not even a Sheffield beer), smokes Woodbines or takes snuff. Very few even eat chip butties.

Nope. It's basically a chip sandwich. I'd rather eat chips without bread. If I'm going to have something in a breadcake I'd prefer a fishcake or a burger to chips. And I suspect I'm not alone. There's a lot to unpack there..
But, you don't eat chip butties!?
Thanks for the clarification, and Magnet not your tipple either no?Nope. It's basically a chip sandwich. I'd rather eat chips without bread. If I'm going to have something in a breadcake I'd prefer a fishcake or a burger to chips. And I suspect I'm not alone.
Was the story a Rotherham fan having a piss in the urinals and it started "tha fills up me senses"Didn’t Rotherham invent it?

I remember this guy being apoplectic every week on the kop - think in the first season it was seated - roaring half way through the song that it was “fucking magnet” every time. Long haired bloke. Still remember him yelling to the whole kop “Magnet! Fucking MAGNET! What you gonna do with a gallon of maggots anyway - put your fucking dick in them?!”I remember when some vagabond starting trying to change it from maggots to magnet.

I sit in farm Rd with 6 other Blades & I'm only one who doesn't drink Magnet, so you are wrong on that one
A Dustman perchance?My old man?
A Dustman perchance?
Disagree entirely. It’s part of our identityUsed to love hearing the arguments over the little bits like if it's fill/thrill, packet of woodbine/woodbines but through the years I just see the whole song as abit cringe.
Wouldn't mind if it was about humanity progression or global economic salvation instead of chip butties!I had no idea there were people who are 'too cool' to join in a song with 20k other people, sharing in a collective experience you can't get anywhere else.

I just enjoy the whole part about loads of people getting caught up in doing something at the same time. I'm a bit romantic about football, the whole 'something bigger than yourself that you have no control over' thing.Wouldn't mind if it was about humanity progression or global economic salvation instead of chip butties!
