He was important on the field and even so in the dressingroom. Sander stayed at his place at the start. Real captain and a decent bloke. Fond memories of him. Despite his limitation in speed he really got the team going. Were not man city we care about players who give it all as best they can.

Really missed Egan’s organisation and timing yesterday. Early days but Jack looked nervy and exposed in a 4. While he leads with fearlessness and commitment, neither he nor Anel replace what we’ve lost with Egan in decision-making and instructing others around him. Maybe Souttar will offer some of that but don’t really understand the logic of letting an accomplished player still in his prime leave.

Egan was crap in a back 4

This same thing happened with Egan in the team though. We conceded so many late goals under Slav. Organisation was the issue, I agree there but that comes from the manager. There’s enough quality in Anel, Souttar, Trusty, Robbo & Gilchrist (players who can play CB) to not let a two goal slip so easily

This reasoning makes me wonder if you watched Egan play much. He had many strengths but he wasn’t an organiser, he never was.

Egan was great in a 5 with Bash and O'Connell, was a great servant and made up a cracking song. He also in the last few years was regularly exposed for pace and was repeatedly justifiably criticised and almost unplayable in a back 4.

It'll quickly get very boring if after every poor result Egan's suddenly become Maldini, Wes Lev Yashin and McBurnie Lewandowski.

Agreed although I would love to have McBurnie with this line up.

Egan has moved out, we should move on, we need to look to the future. Most of the lads that have left served us very well, but they weren't going to last forever,

Egan's best seasons for us were the first promotion season and first season in the Premier League. After that he wasn't as good and lacked organisation and communication at the back. He became a liability at set pieces and easily got beaten with over the top balls when playing high up the pitch, which is partly bad management to put a slow centre back that high up the pitch against fast counter attacking teams.

I think if there was a reasonable chance of him being match fit before Christmas we would have given him another year.

like many ageing players match ratings tumble and legs get slower

fantastic servant for us but football marches on to a new tune. the more we can delete from last seasons horror squad the better
Egan was largely absent last season and I don’t think we’d have conceded 100+ with him in the side, purely from a mentality perspective.

I thought we did offer him a deal just he and McBurnie turned their offers down over the summer.
Ah maybe so, a lot was left open to interpretation. I didn't get the impression that Egan was still in talks like McB was but could just have got the wrong end of the stick.

'cos he was (sadly) crocked and not getting any younger?

Agree with most of that except that tuneless dirge of a "Song".
Fucking awful.
Still no idea what the Chefununided way is🙏😜
