Offer him a decent pay as you play with a decent goal bonus.

Personally I'm not that bothered if he goes. His record over five seasons is poor and he's never been a reliable goal scorer. My only worry is that he's the best we've got, despite being average at best. If he leaves then we need a significant signing coming in, whether that be on loan or permanent.
Think they will offer him a new deal, mainly because we've got no money to look for an upgrade, says it all about the state of our club really. Worrying!

It's worrying that one of our biggest problems over the last two seasons has been injuries, and we here we are re-signing McBurnie and Osborn, two of our most injury prone players, and Egan, who has also been injury prone and is past his best.

I'm worried as we have no one better than McBurnie, and yet even at his best he was just an average goalscorer in the Championship. Unless we bring in a loanee who can bag some goals then unfortunately we've got to see yet another season of McBurnie. "But Tony, McBurnie is our best player defending set pieces," then play him at centre back!

We've been given a chance to have a huge clear out and a rebuild from ground zero, and yet here we are sticking with players who have been here for too long and should've been replaced years ago.

We are an absolute shambles.

It feels very similar to the Olsen signing so could have come from a similar process. Tall keeper, 2nd choice at big club, some level of international recognition, shit. Basically signing a keeper who sounds good rather than one who's actually proved he's good at goalkeeping

And at the same time some people here were almost in tears that we didn't sign his international understudy!

I think there are two players I’m really bothered about right now that I don’t want selling.

One is Arblaster. I think the message that would send would be appalling. Barring a career ending injury, his value can only go one way and it would be such short termism for him to be sold without making some mark.

The other is Hamer. Midfielders who score and assist are really a rare find and he would be difficult to replace and could easily emerge to be a talisman in this division for us this coming season.

They are the only two I’d be annoyed about. There’s a good handful I wouldn’t mind staying but these are the two I see as off limits if we mean business at all in the short and long term.

Agree they need replacing but I think it makes sense to keep them on for a season to bridge the gap a bit and keep at least a little continuity. We are going to have a large portion of our starting line up be new signings, who'll all need to settle in and get used to whatever style it is we end up playing. Having a few players who are known quantities (even if they're known to be a bit meh at this point) will be very valuable I feel.

I'm not entirely against selling Hamer so long as the money from the ree is a profit on what we paid and all of the money and saved wages goes to Wilder. If we paid £15mil for Hamer then we should be selling for £20mil minimum given that he scored 5 goals and got 7 assists in in 36 games. That's a goal contribution every 3 matches playing for a team that only kept 23% possession most matches. We also only scored 28 goals, so he had a role in 43% of them. Some of our fans will be unrealistic and expect £25mil plus but his value had dropped the second we got relegated so I don't see £20mil as a bad thing. We could alway out add ons into the deal.

Let's say we build a team around Hamer and Arblaster. We're 2 players up, 9 to go. If we sold Hamer for let's say £20mil, but then spent that money on, for arguments sake, Dolan from Blackburn, Thomason from Bolton and Poku from Peterborough, now we're 4 players up, 7 to go. Yes it sucks that we've lost Hamer, but arguably we're a stronger team for it.

I'm not saying these players are good enough, they're just examples.

Selling players isn't a cardinal sin. Not reinvesting the money from the sales is, and this is where we don't have a good track record. We often sell players, buy a cheap inferior replacement and the remainder of the money dissappears into the ether.

Thats the problem with us though we sell our best player(s) and spend the money and end up with duds. We need to keep our best players for at least 2-3 years for a proper rebuild to happen. We then should be buying good enough players on top. We just have to find them for 50p. For me Hamer stays or we are worse off.

Don't forget RND

Most of the money we get from player sales won't be reinvested in replacements/the squad.

That’s always the danger.

We have a tendency to sell and then look to do something.

Clubs of a stronger morale fibre tend to accept a player is leaving but insist on having a replacement in the door first.

So let me get this straight. In a situation where we sell Souza, Anel and Slimane for, lets say £20M the board will only give CWAK etc. a maximum of £9.99M for new players and wages?

Have we paid in full for Hamer?

He’s finished…was okayish but will not recover….as per Osbourne…either pay as you play or get rid
Have you got knowledge from someone at the club regarding RND? If not why say he's finished? He's young and who can say how bad his injury is,until I here it from the club I'm hoping he going to be at pre season and a regular starter next season. He was far better than okayish for fucks sake.

The facts are there…he’s now another RB, a player who has’nt / won’t recover from damaged hamstrings…..you don’t need any info from the club….
The sick bay is already full without adding to it when we don’t need to…
I did think he was okayish but nothing special…

Hope I’m wrong BTW, but not worth the gamble…

I was referring to fees rather than wages.

Because we're closer to 20% of signings being good over the last five seasons, if that, let alone 50%.

Our recruitment has been woeful and very costly as all but Ndiaye and Ramsdale have left for significant losses.

Freeman - £6mil (released for a loss)
Berge - £22mil (sold at a loss)
Robinson - £8mil (swapped for Burke who was released for a loss)
Mousset - £10mil (released for a loss)

That's just for starters.

Look at this season.

Larouci - poor signing
Thomas - poor signing
McAtee - poor overall but for a one month hot streak
Grbic - poor signing
Souza - poor signing
Slimane - poor signing
Traore - poor signing
Holgate - 50/50
Brereton-Diaz - good signing

That's 9 players brought in this season and only Brereton-Diaz has been consistently good. The rest have been poor on the whole.

The club has harped on about signing young and upcoming players who we can sell on for profit, and yet it fails to do this. Our recruitment is awful and the fact that we're letting Wilder in charge again backed up by his mate fills me with dread.
You really should start and or end your posts with "in my opinion" None of your waffle is fact

Fair point, but did I make up all those losses we made, or was it waffle the players I've listed as poor signings this season?
