not if your wage bill is 19 million
contracts mean they cant , like we couldnt get rid of 3/4 year contract players and their wages , it took us 3 seasons to get just above half to 14,5 m from the 26 million wages we paid in our year in the "sun"

our parachute payments came no where near paying off our enhanced wage bills it is more realistic now

Wolves are not in the mess we are.

Their relegation season (to May 2012) they had £38m wages and had a turnover of £61m and made a net profit of £2m plus.

They will have significantly reduced wages and benefited from their first slice of parachute payments this season just finished. They will have made a loss but they are nowhere near the poor shape we are in.

Given they can have a wage bill up to about 4 times and more of most clubs (only Bristol City can compete but not much as they don't have parachute payments) I can't see how they will fail

That was entirely self inflicted.
as it was at leeds sheff weds saints , luton , leicester , wimbledon notts forest norwich etc etc
losing prem status hit you where it hurt, financially , only now is the parachute just about right
prior to last year it left clubs in deficit , lots of them

2010/11 is a Premier League season, they may well have already halved their wage budget.

Championship players they want to move on probably also command fees.

A £16m parachute payment in L1 is an absolutely huge advantage.

I'll be amazed if they don't go straight back

Depends if they give it to Wilson; then no chance.

Not about to trawl through the figures, but we spent massively after relegation.

If we'd started properly reducing budgets sooner we'd be OK now. The parachute payments are fine if you actually use them as a parachute instead of a trampoline.

aye theres the rub , do you go cautious or think , lets speculate a bit, we had a couple of near misses
are you saying we should have settled for mid table mediocrity, like burnley and blackpool did

would our fans have accepted that approach

Wolves didn't appoint Robson and ironically dropped straight through albeit with much higher parachute payments.

They will bounce back long before we do

This is what the owner has to decide. If he's wasting his own money, then let him do so. If he's saddling the club (and ultimately the fans who buy tickets) with years of debt repayment then it's absolutely is not OK.

I'd be happier with an honest and frugal regime than a bullshitter who's scared of telling financial truths.

but wheres the cut off point , how long do you try , how much is over stretching
did anyone see us falling out of the top 10 never mind getting relegated
we were top 8 regulars, just always 1 or 2 players away from automatic , just push that boat a little further out and oops weve fallen in

but does anyone know at any one point in time where that is , if we are in the championship play offs or in our case 3rd we are only a footstep from a 50 million pay day , its like having an obsession with lottery tickets , Ill just put in another 4 to get ten times that back, and when it doesnt happen then your left owing a bit

There been figures quoted somehwere that showed we spent more money on wages in 07-08 than we did in the 06-07 PL season. Obviously on a much reduced turnover. I don't know if anyone can find those figures.

Its been said before, but if McCabe had been as generous with Warnock as he was with Robson, we wouldn't be where we are now.

we would have been better off finishing lower down one year so as the stability would have been better , but we kept being tantalizingly close , enough to keep feeding our dream

peterboro will be able borrow from fergie again and will push wolves all the way. we may get in top ten with a bit of luck, after losing long and harry and miller once he's fit! oh happy days not!!!!!

Love it
Can I remind of this post at the end of next season when they are relegated again :)

Certainly, they still have £32M of parachute payments to come. They will be able to pay player wages 4 times our ability next season.

Oh, and an owner who is at least 3 times wealthier than McCabe.

Wolves last published net assets £24M.

SUFC net assets minus £41M (albeit SUFC plc net assets are about £1M)

We are miles and miles away from Wolves in terms of ability to go up from L1

But all that money did not stop them getting relegated twice in two seasons did it?

No it didn't, they made the disasterous decision to sack McCarthy and like us appointed a succession of poor managers not up to the task.

I am assuming they won't appoint an idiot next time round, could be wrong of course

Theres absolutely nothing to fear in league 1 next season, all 3 relegated clubs are hardly in a good place , bristol city had plans for a new ground , theyare now the new Brighton facing years of wanting upgrading , wolves I find are paying large repayments still on their recent upgrades. Posh are erratic at best and will lose key star players, gills millers an bradford//northampton will be glad to stay up, the rest are a mish mash of perennial strugglers and those with modest investment and bigger dreams. We just need the right man at the top, our resources even if a few more drift away will see us be one of 2 clubs with 10000 or more gates. We are not at threat from any bank ,paid our taxes , and have better stability than 80% of those in league 1

As Saunders pointed out before he left, they need a clearout as there is a losing mentality in the club. Unfortunately those players will be on big PL contracts and nobody will want to sign them because they are expensive shite to have around. Wolves may be stuck with several players they don't want, who don't want to be there but they have no choice but to include because of the enormous salaries they are on.

Ignore the possible £15m salary budget as much of that could be swallowed up by the above.

Agree, us and Wolves for the top two spots.

Anything less is failure - again.

All we need is a manager who can.

Anyway, we don't necessarily need money. Did Yeovil need money to reach the play-off final?
