Alot of people on here wanted Andre Brooks sent out on loan "to develop"

Yet in he comes and more than holds his own.

There's a ill-gotten theory in this forum from the older generations that players in the academy should not have a clear pathway into the first team squad without going out on loan first.

#StuckInThe90s
It’s not the older generations that send them out on loan, but the management team.
Some need loans but perhaps others do not. It must be a decision based on each individual and must also depend on which league the first team is in.
Many of the current top English PL players went out on loan at the beginning of their careers.

I wonder if its because for the past few seasons we have been a team fighting for something (against relegation, fighting for promotion etc)?

If we were a mid Championship or mid prem team, maybe we would be more comfortable throwing youngsters in with less at stake?

Lets be honest, if we didn't have such a long injury list would Osula or Brooks be playing currently? Glad they are, but imagine if first game in, Brooks had cost us 1 point or 3 points, thats a lot of pressure on young shoulders.

Simple equation you’d think.

Ia be ready to step up? If so, is he going to get a chance right now? If not then they go on loan.

There is a gap between U21 football and men’s football. It’s just a question of how you get them some experience.

They can’t all play so some will go elsewhere. For some it will be permanently for others just for a while.

I’ll be here all evening to state the bleeding obvious if you need me 😆

Fed up of hearing this now. He’s ready. in premiership Jebbison debuted aged 17. Macatee aged 19. Rooney aged 16, Owen aged 17, Cole Palmer who destroyed us aged 21. Cafamarteri for pigs aged 18. (Looks a prospect) and how many more? Arblaster is 19. If you’re good enough you’ll thrive and adapt. Watch him.
Aye
Albeit self selecting statistic citing 6 lads covering > 25 years
Further diminished by citing Jebbison who has hardly set the world alight in the subsequent 3 years or Cadamarteri (7 games in 2nd division)
How many teenagers in the same quarter century have debuted & disappeared ?
Starter for ten - (Morecambe’s ?!?) Jordan Slew or for those “stuck in ‘90’s” - Wayne Harrison

Adam Burley scored on his debut I think? Doesn’t even have a wikipedia page.

Case of loads of kids who’ve played for us and gone on to do the square root of fuck all or have become a lower league/conference player.

I’m not that sad. But I bet the majority of kids “given a chance” and gone on to obscurity, outweighs that of any of them making it.

The coaching staff aren’t stupid, they know who they can rely on and who’s not ready. If we had another Rooney, Walker, Maguire etc. I’m sure we’d be seeing them in the first team.

Dip them in. Brooks has done ok, hardest league in the world, but one game against an expensive Chelsea side where he’s not played well can snowball and smash his confidence. Illy burst on the scene but his confidence went pretty quickly, Hecky even stuck him back in the U23’s for him to take a step back.

“Play the kids” is basically the same as “Bring back national service”. Emotional responses to a problem that they feel can easily be plugged. It’s like cry of the desperate who can’t think remotely clear.

And yet still better than watching Norwood and Fleck struggle to get round the pitch, which seems to be the alternative. Or watching Tiny Ben work it on to his left foot to do a step over/turn inside and then pass back to the goalkeeper.
Yes the kids might struggle
Yes Slimane might not be 10/10 for recovery runs but lets have a look shall we?
We are going down anyway so lets find some decent players for the championship.
I'd like to see more of Peck and One as I think both could offer something. Maybe Buyabu and Seriki? All seem to be athletic.
It doesnt matter (to the club in the long run) if a few younger players dont make the step up and fall by the way side. But lets try something different.

Aye
Absolutely
(Unsure why you’re citing my post as it appears we’re saying the same thing ?)

Has anyone ever made a list of young pros that have made their debuts, never to be heard of again.
Bet there's hundreds.
Since our disastrous 2010 relegation season, these are the players with a single appearance for the club as well as those who have only ever been named as a substitute.

3 are in tier 5 (National League): Jo Cummings (Halifax), Harvey Gilmour (Rochdale), Kingsley James (York)
3 are in tier 6 (National League North/South): George Cantrill (Alfreton), Jordan Hallam (Scunthorpe), George Willis (Alfreton)

1 is in the Estonian top flight: Mihkel Aksalu (Paide Linnameeskond)
1 is in the Northern Irish top flight: Graham Kelly (Coleraine)
1 is in the Northern Irish second tier: David Parkhouse (H&W Welders)

Although if you want to “see more of” Peck , One, Buyabu & Seriki (among others) you could always watch the <21’s - even @ that ‘level’ they’ve still got a lot of learning to do without (risking) “fall(ing) by the wayside” - the coaches (&manager) will assess & appraise their (near) readiness with using them as cannon fodder or sacrificial lambs just to “try something different”

Interesting . Thanks for the time spent. At least a decent group have made/are making a living out of their dream.
