It states in a website that "Match A" would be played on Friday 3rd May and "Match B" would be played on Saturday 4th May (kick off at 5.30 I think) would "Match A" be 6th place v 3rd or 5th v 4th?

One might assume that match A would be the pairing of 3rd and 6th, but with the football authorities you don't know!

I think so,Silent. We finished 3rd last season and played on the Friday night

I think they will wait to see who is placed where and then decide which is Match A and which is Match B.

They will need to consider things such as weds v Middlesbro' on Saturday May 4th. There's no way SY Police will agree to us being at home on that day.

Never thought of that, cheers

1st leg (match A: 6th v 3rd) - Friday 3rd May 2013, kick-off 7.45pm
1st leg (match B: 5th v 4th) - Saturday 4th May 2013, kick-off 5.20pm
2nd leg (match A: 3rd v 6th) - Monday 6th May 2013, kick-off 1.30pm
2nd leg (match B: 4th v 5th) - Monday 6th May 2013, kick-off 4.30pm

The Final will take place at Wembley on Sunday 19th May 2013, with a 1.30pm kick-off.

Sheffield United cannot play on Saturday 4th May due to Sheffield Wednesday playing at home. This order may reverse depending on where Sheffield United finish - the Blades could finish 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th.

Found this on a Yeovil site, makes sense and ties in with what said earlier about not being at home the same day as Wednesday.

""The Football League have now finalised, more or less, the scheduling of ties for the 2012-13 Play-Off Semi-Finals. There is one outstanding issue that needs to be sorted out, due to a regional policing issue in Sheffield, that affects Sheffield United's participation in the play-offs.

Due to Sheffield Wednesday playing a Championship Division match at home to Middlesbrough on the final day of their division, on Saturday 4th May, the League have agreed that if Sheffield United finish in 5th or 6th then their first leg match must be played on the Friday night. Whoever doesn't play Sheffield United will play Saturday teatime and Monday teatime"

The pigs kick off at lunch time V Boro so quite possible for both to be policed

Ha ha possible yes, but when have the SY Police done something other than make things as awkward as possible!
Well we wouldn't want pig fans anywhere near the town centre would we ......................... not after they have just been relegated with 55 points. :)

So basically they have finalised the dates, unless they haven't.

Brilliant!!!

Apologies if anyone else's put this on, but:

So if we finish 4th, we'll play Saturday , but away. If we finish anywhere else, we'll play Friday

If we finish fourth, we play away on Saturday. Third & fourth have home advantage for the second leg, if we finish 5th then it's role reversed and we lose home advantage for the second leg. Wrong IMO.

But if we finished 5th we wouldn't have home advantage for the second leg...????

If we finish 3rd, we are away first, and start Friday

Doesn't seem that complicated to me, though their press release could be worded better. We can play on Saturday - just not at home.

Hang on the pigs game on 4th May is at 12.45pm and the playoff should be at 5.30pm why can both games not be played on the saturday???. Also a bit unfair for a 2 day gap for the 4th/5th teams.

Same for both teams I suppose. I'm not sure I'd want to finish 4th, with yeovil 5th, have to travel all the way down there, and back and play a couple of days later. A trip to Doncaster would be much easier

Because it's the pigs last game at the dump this season so they will expect a crowd, a minority of which will go a for a drink in the centre plus all the boro fans coming back to the station/centre after the match.

Mix into that the Unitedites supping in (a probably sunny) town from early on watching the results come in hoping for a pig defeat and relegation.

We'll be playing away on the Saturday or on the Friday night.
