Goals at this level were a given. It’s Billy Sharp FFS.

Would be more interested to know what his overall performance levels have been like. Not just the goals. ?

Hold up play ?

Work rate ?

I thought it was the right decision to let him go but I was wrong. We'd be managing the end of games much better if he was on the pitch. He'd be sticking his arse out winning free kicks and taking the pressure off. We'd have at least a couple more points.
I think this is exactly it. Plus mcburnie is out and we have an issue for Sunday.

Other games he might not have got on at all, but the option is there and he brings with it dressing room influence and passion.

It's where I think the board should have listened to hecky a bit.

I think I if you asked Billy right now what he'd rather be doing now in the twilight of his career, he'd more than likely say he wants to be on the pitch scoring goals, than sat on our bench, relegated to being our dressing room hype man.
Deffo. It's worked out well for him. Nice little adventure to end his playing career on.

But from our point of view a small mistake for this season I think. Then again as pleased as I am about the likes of Hamer and archer etc. Our transfer strategy has clearly had mistakes this summer.

Exactly. Sit on our bench or go and have some fun in the LA sunshine for a year?

Nessman930 what’s the likelihood he secures another year next season if he gets 10+ goals?

My understanding is limited but I know there’s slots for foreign players and Chicharito has taken one, but is out injured currently. Is there a place for him longer term? Failing that surely another MLS team would pick him up?

With six games left to play, LA Galaxy are still second-bottom, seven points off a top seven play-off spot and five points off 9th place, a 'wild card' spot that entails a one-off match against the 8th place side for the final play-off spot.

A series of elimination matches featuring eight teams from the western conference (and separately, eight from the east) are followed by national semi finals and a final..

He’d definitely have started the first two games I reckon.

But there is something not right about Billy just being stuck on the periphery.

His minutes may have been limited and it may have lead him to call it a day.

Now, he has a new lease of life. I’d imagine he’ll definitely be up for playing next year as well and then who knows? If he’s still doing it and the family is still settled, then why not continue if the body allows?

Certainly this move may prolong his career and give him some memorable occasions.

GLTTL. Loving seeing him do so well!

Billy will be given a contract extension now, guaranteed. He’s on a goal per game pace since he’s come over and has surpassed our other striker Dejan Jovelic’s entire season output in one game. Billy Sharp is the #1 striker for Galaxy until further notice.

They still have to play 8th, 9th, 10th and 12th too 🤞🏼

Hi Stegosaurus here,

Billy Sharp looking good shows how bad the Yank League was. He was pretty shocking for us last season. All the people saying "wE sHoUlD hAvE kEpT hIm" don't seem to realise there is a massive gulf in class between the PL and the Yank League.

Saying that though, I would rather have him the squad than Fleck. God knows why we gave him a new contract.

I don't think anyone is saying he would be banging them in but a old head on Saturday was badly needed. McBurnie is the old man of the attack ffs!

On Saturday we have Archer and Benie...and eeer...that's it

Shows it was the right move for all parties. Similar to Mcgoldrick to Country or Derby. Go and play, at a level where you can score and have fun whilst your at it.

Rose tinted specs aside Billy isn’t Premier League quality anymore, nor part of a longer term plan.

Just because he’s scoring goals in the Ultimate Soccer World Championship Playoffs doesn’t mean it was a mistake.

Billy will do what he does, and have a blast living in LA for for a year or two. Can’t think of a better end to an illustrious career.

From both Didsy and Sharps perspectives, I completely agree.

From the clubs perspective However, hindsight tells me that Dids left a year too soon and it’s shaping up the same way for Bill.

Agreed, plus he misses very few games through injury. In the meantime, we gave Fleck another contract despite the fact he's done nothing for 2 years, his legs have gone and he's semi permanently injured.

And his leadership and passion for the club - he doesn't even have to be on the pitch to have an effect on the team's performance

No disrespect to Billy, but his scoring rate suggests League One standard of defending.
I went to Atlanta v FC Cincinnati. Small sample size but I'd suggest that your assessment is extremely generous. The physicality is also completely different.

In short it's a league standard and style almost perfectly set up for players with high football intelligence to shine. Billy Sharp's movement and finishing remains superb so it's not a surprise at all that he's tearing it up.
