40 years takes us back to 1973 which means they have won the 4th Division twice (we have won it once in same period) and 3rd Division once (which we may equal this year). So in reality they have won more trophies than us but then they have competed in those trophies for longer than us.

Who has won most league titles, who has won most FA cups, who is the better known club? Who has the richer tradition within the game and who is the better known club? Oh and who has spent the most time in higher divisions out of the two? Come on thats a weak argument and you know it.

I think the point he was trying to get at was that Swindon last won a trophy (the League Cup) in 1969, whereas we have to go back to 1925. However, given that we have had 10 years in the top division since then) and 60 in our history compared to Swindon's 1 and that I would bet a million pounds that Swindon have never had a higher average attendance than us in any season, the general argument is, as you say, crap.
 
I suspect he's referring to their 1969 League Cup win, which puts them in the vast array of clubs that have actually won a trophy since we did in 1925.

PS. For those who quite like maths, that Swindon trophy is exactly half way (44 years) back to our last.

I suspect Di Cantio will be applying for the Coventry job he still might have a say in what happens in League One.

"Swindon Town Football Club is an English football club based in Swindon, Wiltshire. The club participates in League One, the third tier of English football. They play their home games at The County Ground, which has a capacity of 14,700 and has been home for over 100 years.
Since turning professional in 1894, the club has enjoyed periods of success, most notably during the period 1968–1970 when they won the 1969 League Cup (defeating Arsenal at Wembley Stadium) securing promotion to the Second Division. Cut and pasting from a website only shows that in 100 years their crowning glory was promotion to the SECOND division and winning the league cup. Oh and the Anglo Italian cup in 1970, shit a pig I stand corrected.

You must have chosen the word "heritage" very carefully, it certainly isn't a euphemism for "winning things".
