It's not just about sympathy for Sander, it's the bigger picture.

Ive not had many friends and acquaintances over the years who've played pro football but there's been a few.

The way their team mates get treated undoubtedly has an impact with some, just like it can with those of us doing every day jobs.

The message coming out from a few at present is that some are from far happy how this has been dealt with. I'm not an ITKer but even I've spoken to one person who I deem pretty credible. Doesn't mean I categorically confirm it however.

Things like this might not put off upcoming younger players being offered a big rise by joining us but it can certainly impact those here or those moving sideways

If people aren't concerned by this and are just happy getting a decent fee then I'm not going to argue with them and say they're wrong, but with respect I do think it's a bit naive to just assume it will definitely not have any knock on effects.

Let's just hope we bring in 4 or 5 proper players before Sept to refocus the negativity that's enveloping the club recently.
Would people really be prepared / happy for the club to pay out a further £15,000,000 (on top of the £20,000,000 plus he's cost us already) to avoid hurting Sander Berge's feelings for 9 months?

It smacks of people not really doing the maths / being happy to squander other people's money / the bad financial management that got us into the current mess.

Berge having medical at Burnley now, hecky confirmed it on sky sports news just now... So it's today dad..
Good job it's August when the sun is shining. Later in the year he'd fail it as he'd be already injured!

You might call this a Reverse Ramsdale.

Its a conceptually interesting situation, is it better to take £12M now, or lose him next summer for nothing? It might be in the clubs best long term financial interests to make a dispassionate/clinical decision, rather than rely on the decision of a manager (similar to how it was probably the right decision not to renew Sharp's contract, even if the manager wanted to keep him) - even if that means doing a really shitty thing to Sander Berge.

(To be clear, I'm not saying it is the right decision)
Won’t you aren’t throwing into that gamble is the fact he could get injured next week and be out for 9 months

Can someone ask Illy's mrs if she can try flog a load of Napapijri gear on facebook for me?

We've always been a selling club, people expect the players to have the same investment in the club we do. Sadly they don't it's a short career and if I worked in the coop I wouldn't begrudge someone leaving to work in the big Tesco. I don't particularly blame the players it's a failure on the business side of things to safeguard our most valuable assets. But if they won't sign a contract there's not a lot that can be done, even if we get new players in as good as(highly unlikely) or better(lol), it's going to be nigh on impossible to have a functional team for the first two months at least. If we manage to stay up it'll be a footballing miracle. Having said that the current players and management need all our backing. The board and the business side can get in the sea and keep walking.

Catch 22 situation, leave them to go for free, or sell them to retain some cash..

Think about it, we were in an embargo in February for not paying Brewster's and Anels instalments, how can we let £30m+ walk out the door next year gambling that we'd stay up..

The owners, the current players, one day they'll be gone, the club must come first, financially we all know what we need to do, it's a hard bullet to bite, but we all know what has to be done, it's common sense sadly.

We support Sheffield United, shit like this won't make us stop, but it's OK to grumble at dissapointment..

Note: I'm pretty sure whatever money we get anyway will be bluffed by the Prince into losses, he's already ignoring the TV money we received for getting in the PL, not a mention of that in SUW video..

Yeh but we are so bad at it, just listening to a piece on Maguire, referred to as still being the worlds most expensive defender

That was a mcabe special wasn't it, Bruce took piss reyt..

People on here are far too happy to let players with a decent value walk out for nothing.

It depends on the value we are getting. I would be happy to sell Berge for £12m now (in a vacuum, given the state of our central midfield it is not a good move). I was not happy to sell Ndiaye for whatever we got for him.

How dare people have someone advising them as to what is the best for their careers!

The assumption that every single agent is a parasite looking to gut a club for all their worth is seriously tiring. Yeah sure, some are, just like you get parasites in every walk of life, end of the day they’re there to get the best deal for their player.

Due to Wilders signings the club lost
£6m Freeman
£9m mouse
£6m Burke / robinson
£10m Brewster ( at least, when he goes )
£10m mcburnie ( at least when he goes )
£1m lundstram

Did we derive zero value whatsoever from their appearances on the pitch? Sure, some will say yes for some of these, but you cannot say that we spent £9m on Mousset, he left on a free three years later, and we got zero return. Last time I checked he scored a few goals that helped keep us up

So we rebuild.

We have Fleck/Ozzy/Slimane/Berge/Norwood. With the monies raised, we could be looking at-

Slimane/Hamer/O'Brien/Souza/Norwood. I know which id rather have for the next 3 seasons.....

Cant make an omelette without breaking an egg.

Cov got £20m for Gyokeres in his last year of his contract. They are giving promotion at good go. I can’t see Hamer being less than £20m being their best player as that would really inhibit their promotion push. At that price it pushes him over our price range.

Sensible post, I’d be more pissed off with the board if we’d let sander run his contract down and leave for nothing

Don’t mind him being sold, but the way they’ve gone about it is absolutely mind-boggling, makes us look like twats, and genuinely just a joke of a way to treat a player who never forced a move away.
