1971-72 Nov 8 W 1-2 HT0-1. Gil Reece, playing No 9 scored both goals.
Interesting both teams played in their traditional strips, where as around this period WHU changed to their away strip at BDTBL.

My kind headmaster allowed me time off school to attend both matchesI think the return match at the Lane was during the 1972 miner's strike and due to the 3 day week and power cuts the game was played midweek with an afternoon kick off.
Billy Dearden hat trick with a 3-0 win.
It was a week after the Pele game at Hillsborough.
Good question.Or….is it the 5-0 midweek cup defeat?
