there are more teams than spurs vulnerable if their star players dont turn up
thats why we have chances
yes theres man city and liverpool but arsenal falter up north , man utd blow hot and cold chelseas been poor last season
bournemourth brighton fulham and brentford we beat the seasons when they went up
palace west ham everton we know we can beat if we apply ourselves

I think staying up is a distinct possibility if we get behind them
I agree we have to get behind them but that won’t determine how well we do in the league, that will be down to the personnel we have on the field and those in and around the dugout.

I think, sadly, we’ll be battling Luton for bottom spot. The only hope is we’re not adrift by Christmas and we can get a takeover through.

The summer after (2024) we currently have 3 contracted players, unless I’ve missed new deals. That is absolutely abysmal squad management. We need to be extending contracts now on some of our players or our first team will have no asset value whatsoever. If we go down we won’t have anyone to sell and will be financially constrained by relegation. It’s ridiculous really that we’ve left ourselves so exposed and worries me greatly.

We need to be as busy as we’ve ever been and we have a poor budget and seemingly little movement on extensions or new signings. I’m sure I’ll cheer up when something happens, but I’m extremely concerned. 😅

To answer OPs posts about reasons we could stay up (although some tenuous) - I’d like to point out that I think the balance is we will go down unless significantly strengthened.

Anyhow here’s things I’m optimistic about:

1) Hecky - he got lots more points per game than Wilder in the second season despite having a team and fan base that were deject of any sort of hope or positivity and at one point we’re the worst football team that had ever competed (in terms of losses).

2) Transfers and Loans - since we got promoted last time, we’ve done some smart bits of business in the transfer and loan market. Sander Berge, Iliman, Anel, that bloke who was playing in Ukraine on loan, MGW, Doyle, McAtee… and there were plenty of promising players.

Retsos was the youngest captain for Olympiakos and had played in the CL, Mousset was a bargain at the time and scored points by himself (albeit let himself down, Osborne has been worth the couple of million we paid, Olsen was an international keeper, Ben Davies had been decent in the championship previously. For whatever reason they just didn’t perform.

3) Other clubs are on their way down through mismanagement or non investment or just can’t compete and probably have to sell assets soon. Everton, Palace, Bournemouth, Leeds, Luton.. all might have a torrid time.

4) We’ve beaten excellent teams through tactical ability. We beat Burnley convincingly and in the second game looked great before Wes lost his head. We beat Spurs and held Man City to account for 40 minutes before Jebbo made that tackle - we’ve shown we can hold our composure and compete when we need to.

I’m aware this is hopeful but just listing reasons we could stay up.

Ideally I’d like to see a keeper, left CB, midfield and striker strengthened but I think this could be the start of the rebuild we’ve needed for a long time.

In any case, one day I’ll be telling my grandchildren that Kean Bryan and Oli Burke scored at Old Trafford to beat Man Utd so stranger things have happened…

They came on though (certainly Kane did), so not entirely correct. It could easily be a team that we'd come up against, and they were bang up for it (in theory).
To be fair you’re right we were good. And it was a weird team with a point to prove. But spurs lose games like that, they’ve got soft as shit underbellies.

Take nothing away from the performance but they’re the one prem team I expect us to beat at home.

I smell pork.

That’s not true. I know the feeling of being relegated ( many times) and it is very different from now. It’s posts like this that actively try to create and propagate that feeling, for reasons only apparent to folk like you.

I for one am excited about the forthcoming season. As a lifelong supporter over many decades, I fully realise that it will be an uphill struggle, but what better than to see the Blades beat the odds and bloody some noses at a full and raucous Bramall Lane. That’s why I follow the Blades. I personally think that we can stay up.
Social media websites may well not be crackling with excitement, but I’m confident that Bramall Lane will be.

Fuck me what planet are we on...its bloody obvious without investment across the the board we arnt going far ... I'm dreading this season at the moment without new owners, who wants to see our team lose week in week out.... hope I'm wrong but at the mo it ain't looking good!
Dreading alert.

No doubt you were dreading the season ahead 12 months ago. WTF is wrong with you people?

Will it "certainly" be better? Ndiaye is obviously a huge upgrade but apart from that I don't see anything being different. We weren't prolific in the league below and we are going to play more defensively
We are going with a better, more reliable defence already, so your assumed defensive style won’t be a problem.

Our attack already has promise, possibly with more to come? I’m optomistic, even before we see our new arrivals. The whole team has goals in it.

After the second PL season under Wilder, I've become desensitised to losing so I'm braced for that because we'll lose more than we win, that's a given for a good few sides, not just us.

The difference this time round is that the budget is smaller but we're being promoted with a team that arguably has a bit more individual talent than what we had last time. A group of individuals doesn't often beat an individual group but we have a bit there this time in the likes of Ndiaye, AA, Berge that can turn the dial when we need it to when it simply didn't exist before besides Mousset for a couple of months. The system broke down and so did everything else. The real top teams can have their system or game plan go to pot but know that someone like De Bruyne or Salah can dig them out the shit with a moment of brilliance to scrape themselves over the line on a bad day.

We spent more money but what did we have to show for it?

Our track record last time suggests that we signed a lot more bad than good. I'd sooner we spent less and got what we needed rather than throwing shit at the wall and hoping that some of it sticks because other than Berge (iffy at times), Robinson (likewise), McBurnie (often not fit, decent when he is), Osborn (gap plugger), Bogle (good in attack, not as good as George defensively) and Lowe (Championship level left back), we've spent a lot of money on a lot of rubbish.

Callum Robinson, Burke, Brewster, Ramsdale (largely shit until it was too late), Retsos, Zivkovic, Rodwell, Verrips, Bryan, Jagielka, Morrison and Mousset all sucked for various reasons. If none of them had ever played for us during that period, we wouldn't be much worse off.

There was the whole thing about "Brexit FC" last time and our scouting network not going any further than Derby yet now we're looking in the same sort of markets that Brentford are and we're being greeted with some of it being underwhelming and that we don't have a hope in hell.

There are some good teams in the Premier League but there aren't many to be genuinely scared of and not believe you can't get any points from. Man City, Man United, Newcastle, Arsenal and Liverpool are the only fixtures you'd go into without any expectation of getting something in my opinion. All the others are very beatable if we turn up with the right mindset.
Not quite Brentford market yet

I suspect we will go down next season as we don't have enough goals in the team. I hope I am wrong but that will be the crux of it.
We are likely to lose by the odd goal unless we work out how to score against prem teams.

It's still great to be back in the prem and financially promotion has saved us.

Yep. If it wasn’t for promotion we would’ve had to strip the team.

I've already written off this season, anything we finish above bottom is a bonus. It'll be a few nice days out and a bit more exposure for us

Like Rodley what concerns me Is the state of the squad for the following season, we desperately need to get that sorted and give ourselves a solid foundation to compete in the championship in 24/25, we get that right and invest wisely in the next few windows I believe we could become an established PL club

You’re a pig if you say owt like that 😂😂

Nowt don't like losing just being a realist, maybe I should smoke some weed and not have a care in the world?

Pure unadulterated optimism.....isnt that what fans are suppose to be full of when your team has just got promoted.
I must admit too, that at present I cannot see anything but a scrap to stay in the PL but I think we'll make a good shoe of it. I do think we have a better team perhaps a thinner squad but we didnt half fill the last two PL squads with players who just didnt work out - most have already been named but Retsos, Zivkovic, Morrison, Rodwell to name a few.
We do need to bring in players no doubt but I trust this set up now more than under Wilder/Jankanovic. Hecky brought in Anel, McAtee and Doyle last season. Whilst perhaps the lad from Newcastle didnt work out those 3 did. So I think if we are genuinely interested and signing the lads from Scandanavia then they must have the talent to make the squad better.
I think the biggest issue is the uncertainty over the ownership - the Prince clearly wants his silver back plus extra and until he finds a willing (and actual able) participant he aint selling which means the budget will remain low.

We finished 9th with Mousset Freeman Verrips Bryan a
Zivkovic Besic and Lundstram... in the squad and your worried about now .. we have more experience and a stronger squad now

You’re quoting the wrong person because I’m not worried one bit, I won’t mind us getting relegated if it were to happen as I prefer the Championship over the Prem anyway for the reasons I’ve stated before.

As a side point barely any of those you have quoted hardly played, Lundstram played quite a bit, some good but a lot I wish he’d have took his shit stain of a body somewhere else a lot earlier than he did and Moose who only turned up when McDonald’s was getting renovated, the rest didn’t play or barely even featured at all.

Yeah, my point exactly. Our lack of investment has turned what should be a wonderful time to be a Blade, into one of trepidation
Fuck me , at least give em chance to kick off before we start shitting our pants 🤣
Soz…Already shitted up.

Well that'll be the same with some if rhetorical current squad ...some will feature strongly others wont

The only concern I have about next season is who the owner will be.
If we don't compete well enough to stay in the Prem I'll be disappointed of course. but been there before, got the T-shirt., (I will survive. ) But I really dread having to live through those dreaded third league years again, under some one like Mr McCabe or the wendy guy....

Good that you've described McAtee, Doyle, MGW etc etc as signings. All he's saying is we're not in a healthy state as a club, in possibly the strongest league in the world. That's it. McAtee is possibly coming back on loan but signings wise we're behind the clubs we should be ahead of, and that's making Hecky's job harder by the day
What “clubs” should we be ahead of? Genuine question.
