Slightly surprised by Fleck getting a contract offer but not sure why people are getting so worked up about him and Osborn being offered something. The fact they haven’t accepted yet strongly suggests reduced terms and being told of limited playing time.

We clearly can’t sign players to fill all the starting positions we need plus premier league quality back-ups for each position, so for the likely limited (in football terms) outlay, for arguments sake maybe 15k (?) per week, the alternatives really are only risky / cheap free transfers who are realistically not wanted by other clubs and are not going to be Premier League quality. Would much prefer to have Fleck / Osborn as a 2nd or 3rd choice backup than to bring in a cheap, risky free transfer who doesn’t know the club or playing style.
A significant portion of our support live for getting worked up.

If we didn’t offer them a contract they’d be moaning about a lack of numbers in the squad.

Fair enough. Not even Fleck can be kidding himself that he's one of the first name on the team sheet like he was 3 years ago.

Offer him 1+1 deal. If he somehow regains some form them he has an incentive. If not then the club do not trigger.

Just a plan one year is hardly showing the player any backing.

He's not going 38 lile Billy.

But you're hoping he will perform better than he has done of late.

My mind is exploding at the thought of offering a new contract with a club option we can trigger, when his existing contract had an option which we didn't trigger

Obviously on a lot lesser money!

I don't understand some of the stick ozzy gets. He's not the best player in the squad by far, but when heads drop, he's still running around trying to make something happen.
That’s what he does he runs around

Wonder how long they've given Robinson, Fleck, Osborn and Brunt to sign new deals?

Not bothered if none re sign apart from Robbo.

I'm pleased we no longer seem to be in the business of handing out 'rewards contracts'

They've all got more than enough from the extremely generous promotion bonuses we've paid out

It's arguably very charitable though to offer a couple of these players any contract at all

If any of those above reject the offers, so be it. All are replaceable, and ultimately, if we want to be a PL club long term, none are good enough to be starters

People must recognise their position in the squad. It is clear Robinson is going to go from starter to squad player. I don't see another team offering him more than that in the Premier League.

For Osborn it might be more down to minutes. If we do add correctly, he'll be needing circumstances in his favour to get minutes. Perhaps he wants to play each week. Similar to a degree with Fleck, but these lads can't be commanding 30k a week for what a. will be asked of them and b. what they can offer.

I hope United are driving a hard bargain and putting a time limit on the offers being on the table.

Robinson was signed on PL wages so what's the reasoning for offering him more than that? Handy player this season but not one worth breaking the bank for

If we can’t afford a Jack Robinson who usually makes a huge error every game which is then followed by a hard tackle to win back over the crowd at championship level how do we possibly think he is going to be good enough for the Prem?
He is back up at a push for us in the prem. glad to see we aren’t offering him silly money.

I suppose it depends on how the structure went, does it mean small rise on his champ wages?

The ones that may reject the deals I think we could sign just as good if not better for similar wages on free transfers so need to give them a deadline either take the cut or go. Put the ball in their court.

They’re all at least 3 years older than when we signed them. Apart from Robinson they’ve not done a great deal to warrant a new contract so the fact they’re probably getting pay cuts (Fleck / Osborn)/ minor pay rise (JLT) isn’t a huge surprise

Robinson has to be careful what he does, if he leaves he’s literally looking at clubs that will play back 3 as he’s useless in a 2.

He would struggle for a game in most championship sides I agree.

Robinson's an odd one. He kind of works for us and his long throw may also cause a bit of occasional mayhem.

But on the other hand, you can also not imagine a stampede for him if we can't agree.

As has been mentioned, he's shown he can perform in our 3 at the back. I doubt a team is looking at him saying here's a guy who can be our rampaging left back or here's a guy who will play in a two and be one of my main two centre backs.

He just fits with us, which is why he should probably sign. Could be a last big contract if it is 3 years, so you can see why it might take a bit of time to wrap up. But if it is a slight uptick on when he signed - remember it was as a PL SQUAD player, then it's probably not a huge difference.

The others are not getting picked up by PL teams and you could argue that on last year's lack of appearances, they'd do well to secure a Champ deal. We've seen the array of what they may be capable of, but others may look at the games they missed and just look elsewhere.

If JR is a first choice defender next year then we are definitely in for a tough season. Keep him as back up by all means but we will need someone better.

If they think they'll get a) as good contracts and b) premier league football elsewhere - fair play to them. They are more deluded in their own footballing ability than I ever could've guessed.
