Will we give it a go ?

I think the smart plan would be to add some players that would make us a stronger Championship side than we were should we go down.

I can’t see us bringing in much in the way of Premier League experience. We are going to have to be creative with our budget.

I don't think we will even spend that. I think £10m max on a couple of Anel like purchases. I wouldn't be surprised if we spent nothing though
Brentford in their first season spent around £35m on these types of clever signings. Obviously they had the fortune of having Erikson half a season too

I think we’ll be defensively ok, it’s the cost of scoring goals that we need to worry about.

I think the phrase “once bitten, twice shy” will be the overriding one regarding transfer spend, Abdullah won’t spend lots on possibly average to shit players so we’ll be taking a punt on lower cost options. Very reliant on good recruitment and selection.

We just need a billionaire with an open cheque book and no requirement for any future payback and we’ll be fine!
Agreed on all points.

As for your last sentence, what is wrong with these global billionaires?

Why can't they just buy my club spend enormous sums of cash and allow is to fight it out for 10 years with the elite. It's just not fair.

Isn’t that what Wilder tried to do?

Whilst a reduced budget makes things tougher, good recruitment is good recruitment. Getting the right player much more important than the fee.

Freeman
Robinson
Mousset
Brewster
McBurnie
Berge

All cost significant outlays and can’t really classed as 100% successes.

Anel
MGW
McAtee
Doyle
Wes

These are a mixture of bargains, loans and frees.

Obviously selective to make a point, but a 20m budget doesn’t mean we are competitive - just we need good recruitment, this is the same if our budget was 200m

There is a lot of dross in the Premier League (even in the last relegation season we weren’t getting hammered 6-0 every other week remember). There is no reason we can’t stay up. Though realistically we all know it will be a struggle.

The quality at the top has got better, but the strength in depth across the division is nowhere near what it was in 06/07 when we went down.

No the players will just lay on their backs and lose week in week out from the first game.

Look at AFC Bournemouth, very little spent, squad looks crap on paper, finished closer to the top half than the bottom 3.
It's a bit of a myth about Bournemouth spending little, they've spent about £70 million.

This is how we like it init? Written off, under dogs, little to money. All the signs for us to make a decent bash of staying up
I most certainly do not, I am utterly bored shitless of 'cheap as cheaps Sheffield United'. All that 'team o tryers, show a bit of passion' from millionaires wore thin a long time ago.

The entire feeling around the club hinges on a takeover and some investment in the first team, doesn't have to be forest levels of spending but if they're not spending at least £60m then we're wasting yet another opportunity.

I think if we get the recruitment right in the summer we will be okay. We will have to look for Anel type signings abroad and try and pad the squad with freebies and loans (we dont have any other choice really) and try and pick up as many points as we can.

By the time January comes around we will have a really good idea of where we are as a club. Best case scenario is theres new owners and we’ve managed to keep our heads above water meaning we can strengthen for the run in.

I have a feeling our season may be a case of two halves. Up until christmas being that we hang on in there and then given the chance to improve the squad in January we may be more competitive in the second half of the season.

Worst case scenario is we get to january and the Prince is still the owner. That’s nothing against him personally, but it does mean we’re likely to be in a situation where we’re stuck with our lot and nailed on for relegation.

But 10,000 is league 1 level

So? It means fuck all compared to TV money. If they had a stadium size like ours and sold it out every week at fifty quid a ticket, that additional revenue is not even 20% of what the worst team gets from TV

We need to have a least a decent 'spine'.
GK ,CH , CM, No 9.all decent teams build that way.
If we are going to have to play more on the counter, then a couple of pacy young strikers will be required, unless Osula and Jebbison step up ?

To be fair our spine is premier league quality...

Anel in defence, Berge in midfield, Ndiaye in attack

It's posts like this that worry me. It's as if there's a wilful ignorance/blindness of what actually happens in football.

As mentioned above, Bournemouth spent the best part of £80m since getting promoted. They also have Solanke, who scored 29 times in 46 championship games, and who has scored 6 in 32 PL games.

Fulham have Mitrovic. An international quality centre forward. He scored 43 goals in 44 championship games the season before last and he's scored 14 goals in 23 PL games this season. They've spent £70m since promotion and had a better team than us to start with.

Forest have spent about £160m and now have MGW (12 in 37 last season & 5 in 34 this) and Johnson (18 in 49 last season and 8 in 37 this).

All the promoted teams have players as good/effective as Ndiaye, and they have all spent heavily since promotion.
Can't help thinking of MGW charging past Norwood & Egan

I refuse to accept that this squad will get relegated next season, before a ball has been kicked.

Keep in mind we still have a few useful players who will make the bench next season, provided contracts are sorted quickly.
We have learned our lesson from players like Burke, Mouset and Freeman. Who really knew Ndiaye would turn into such a sensation? How did we pull off a buy like Ahmedhodzic?
Loan players like Doyle and McAtee arrived with not much more than promise and potential! Thank the PH management team for their fulfilled promise, potential and progress.

I expect one, or possibly two players like Ahmedhodzic to arrive next season, (20m player budget gone already) along with a group of loan players who have been vetted for attitude as well as promise and potential.

I don’t think we will be a top 10 side, but I don’t think we deserve to be relegation favourites either. Hecky and his staff have put the team where they are, and deservedly so, with all the off field nonsense they dealt with this last season.

I don’t expect a change of ownership anytime soon, and it might not be billionaire we all hope for anyway. We have done well with what we’ve got, despite all the problems like form, injuries and discipline.

Looking forward to a more benign VAR next season!
The off field nonsense will continue and nauseam

The shameful figure of £30 million now seems to have dropped to £20 million.
Will we actually sign anyone?
£20 million wouldn't even guarantee promotion from Leagu 1.

Luton or Coventry will have bigger budgets than us. Big City fans , small town board ambition again & again & again!!

Hi Stegosaurus here,

We'll go down. The bulk of our squad were in the Premier League last time and are now older and shittier. The team needs a rebuild, but the Potless Prince doesn't have the cash to do so.
Hi Fallowsaurus, thanks for your insight 👍

Nice to see someone who isn't cutting their wrists, anyone would think we'd finished 7th and facing another season in the championship.

'All' we have to do to stay up is finish above 3 of these teams Luton/Coventry, Burnley, Everton, Forest, Bournemouth, Fulham or Wolves.

Its doable with the current squad asssuming Doyle and McAtee are back and with some clever recruitment it's more than doable. I also think we will spend more than the quoted 20m.

They spent most of it after they'd been taken over though. They were in a situation near to us until that happened

Nope.
£23m for Brewster without him having played any grown-up football ?
Just a waste of money
Wilder justified quite a few transfers based on that premise. Some were successful, others not so much. Freeman, Lowe, Bogle, McBurnie, Burke etc. He even bought a winger when we didn’t play wingers, but I’ve forgotten his name. :)
Brewster could still come good, and McBurnie has more to come as a striker. All about opinions innit?
Although I’m more of an optimist, I still wanted the autos because our play off form isn’t so good. I was worried, even pessimistic about our chances of winning the last 4 or5 games. That’s a Blades thing though. :)
I still have concerns even now. Ndiaye and Anel have never played at PL level before. Hecky has never managed a PL club, and has no reputation for spending big wads of cash …… I have been a blade a long time, so I will always worry. Love being proved wrong though! :)
