(A throstle is the black country name for a thrush, and is West Brom’s official nickname – resulting from the fact that there were a lot of thrushes in the Hawthorn bushes that covered the area where their ground now is – which is why that is called The Hawthorns.)
I have finally got home at 0130, but I won’t feel like going to sleep for a week. So, we got the job done with 3 games to spare – not at all like us – or maybe it is now. I thought Furious George was unbelievable at Wembley and he carried that through to tonight, and even took it up a notch. I felt that we were labouring against a side that was there for the taking and then George had a rampaging run, crashing through tackles, and everything went up a gear. “Skiliman”, Anel and George ran their blood to water and it was fitting that Iliman’s energy pinched the back pass and then, with real calm, laid it off perfectly for “He’s Norwegian” to smash it into the net. I’m also giving George the assist for Anel’s goal – best-judged pass of the night!! Big shout out to Brew Dog as well – he sits about 3 seats from me and all through his injury he has been our loudest fan - tonight he was literally dancing in the aisles.
So, I don’t suppose anybody cares about graphs any more – but I’ve started so I’ll finish.
Graph 1 is the multiple comparison graph with our best recent Championship seasons. Graph 1 shows that after 43 games, on 85 points we are now 3 points ahead of our 82 points in Wilder’s promotion season in 18/19 and exactly the same as Warnock’s 85 points from 43 games in 05/06. So Hecky is still on course to match our best Championship season for over 20 years.
Graph 1:

Graph 2 compares where we are to my benchmark results for each game to achieve an automatic promotion or a playoff season. You can see from Graph 2 that on 85 points we are now still exactly the same as my Autos Certain line. This line was for a set of results, that I produced at the start of the season, which would achieve 90 points and almost certain automatics. Anyway, we have now got absolutely certain automatics on 85 points – so now we just need a win and 2 draws to get that 90 points and match Warnock’s 90 points in 05/06.
Graph 2:

Next, the League Table, and a great improvement. A 7-point gap over the Mad Hatters and 11 points over Boro, with a game in hand on both and them with only 2 games left – result!
League Table:

By the way, I’m sorry to tell you that Wendy might be about to break one of our records – shame!! We hold the record highest points (90) for a team not to get promoted from League 1. I have to concede that they may outdo us on this occasion!
I’ve also just noticed that it is now April 27th – the same day that we beat Cardiff 5-1 in 1971 and set ourselves up to be promoted. My first game at the Lane as well – a very good memory to finish this week’s post on.
